Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Naegi knows best

~Third Person POV~ Byakuya walked into his fourth period classroom.

He found a random desk and sat down with his things.

Unfortunately (for him) Makoto came inside the classroom a few minutes later and sat down next to him.

Byakuya just looked at Makoto, irritated. "Naegi?"

"Yes, Byakuya?"

"What gave you the impression that it was alright for you to sit next to me?"

Makoto gave Byakuya a look. "Well, other than the fact that this was the last seat available, absolutely nothing."

Byakuya rolled his eyes before class officially started.

During the lesson, Makoto stared at Byakuya.

"Byakuya." He said.

Byakuya groaned. "What is it, Naegi?"

"You should apologize." Makoto said.

"Apologize to who, exactly?" Byakuya huffed.

"Um, June." Makoto said. Byakuya gave him a look.

"Ha! And what exactly should I apologize to her for?" Byakuya said.

"Isn't it obvious? What you said to her about her mother was just terrible. You need to apologize." Makoto said firmly.

Byakuya rolled his eyes again. "So?"

Makoto's eyes widened. "'So'??? So, it's cruel what you did! Did you know that June spent the entire first period crying silently? She obviously doesn't like talking about her mom, and what you said probably triggered something awful!" He said.

Byakuya sighed. "I know it did." He said.

"Um, pardon?" Makoto said.

"I know it triggered something," Byakuya said. "Remember when June and I told you in the hall that we knew each other for awhile already?"

Makoto nodded. "Yeah..."

"Well, we first met way back in the second grade. June told me her mother died when she was in the first grade. She also told me she was incredibly close to her mother. So, yes, I know it triggered something," Byakuya said. "The thing is, I kind of wish I hadn't said what I said back there. I admit it was wrong... But, there's nothing I can do now."

Makoto just stared. "Um, yeah, there IS something you can do now...!" He said obviously.

"Oh really? Like what?" Byakuya asked.

"Um, APOLOGIZE! That's what I've been saying this entire time...!" Makoto said.

"Uh, WHY would I want to apologize to her?" Byakuya said.

"Because, like you said, what you said about her mother was WRONG." Makoto said.

"But, I hate June. And she hates me. Why would I apologize to someone I hate who hates me?" Byakuya huffed.

"Just trust me. You'll feel much better once you do. After that, I don't care. You two can hate each other to your heart's content! But before you can do that, you need to apologize!" Makoto said.

"Are you forgetting the fact that she slapped me?!" Byakuya demanded.

"Which you deserved!" Makoto said. "Just apologize!"

Byakuya sighed. He did think what he said was wrong, but he definitely DIDN'T want to apologize for it!

Besides, June didn't deserve his apology...! Right?

Byakuya sighed once more. "You know what? Fine. If you're so God damn set on me doing it, I'll apologize. Whatever." He said. Makoto smiled a bit.

"Thank you. It's appreciated." Makoto said. Byakuya rolled his eyes.

"Yes, yes, whatever." Byakuya grumbled.

Then a few seconds of silence passed before Makoto spoke up. "Byakuya? I was wondering, why is it you and June hate each other so much?"

Byakuya turned his face to meet Makoto's.

"Just because," Byakuya answered. "Now, let's stop talking and actually pay attention to the lesson."

And that was that.

For the rest of the class, Makoto and Byakuya just stared straight ahead and listened to the lesson.

"Apologize," Byakuya thought to himself. "Apologize to June. Well, I never thought I'd be doing THAT ever."

Yet, he was going to do it.

Right before class ended, Byakuya turned to Makoto. "I'll apologize tomarrow." He said. Makoto nodded in response before the bell rang, ending fourth period.
"Finally, time to go to lunch, I'm starving." Makoto muttered to himself before he exited the classroom. Byakuya followed.

There was only one thing Byakuya was thinking about,

"How am I supposed to apologize to my enemy?"
