Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Spring Fling
--two weeks later--
~Byakuya's POV~ "Guess what day it is~!" Ishimaru sang as he, Leon, Naegi, and I walked through the halls.
Naegi cocked his head to the side. "I dunno... What day is it?" he said.
"Erin and I's two week anniversary!" Ishimaru said happily, a cheerful glint in his eyes. "Oh, that and it's officially the day before the Spring Fling."
The Spring Fling--Hope's Peak Academy's second most important social event, the Christmas Gala being the obvious first. The Spring Fling was important too, I guess, but nothing like the Gala. You didn't have to go all-out on a dress or a date or anything like that with the Spring Fling like you would with the Gala.
Of course, you still had to dress formally and having a date was preferred, but people didn't seem to take it as seriously as the Christmas Gala.
"Gosh," Naegi mumbled. "I'd completely forgot about it. I mean, it's spring, and final exams are coming up. I've been pretty busy studying, I guess..."
"Same with me, I suppose," I said. "I know for a fact I haven't given it any thought, mainly because I've been... rather preoccupied..."
Leon gave me a look. "I'm just gonna assume that's Byakuya Language for 'I've been getting laid'." he said, and I'm sure I turned red.
"N-No...! Not at all! June and I have been great, and I do admit she's what I'm thinking about, but we never did anything like that...!" I immediately protested. Well, actually, I didn't say. we almost did...
Before June's annoying cousin walked in and ruined it.
"Sure." Leon said, obviously not believing a word I say. I rolled my eyes at him.
"So," Ishimaru said, changing the subject. "who are you guys taking to the Spring Fling?"
Naegi and I gave him a look that basically said he was stupid.
"Um... our girlfriends, obviously..." Naegi said.
"Okay," Ishimaru said, rolling his eyes. "Whatever. Who's Leon taking?"
Before Leon got to speak up, I jumped in and said, "No one, because he's Leon and he'll be forever alone."
Leon immediately glared at me. I smirked at him.
Naegi nudged me in the side. "Byakuya! Be nice, would you?" he scolded me.
"Whatever you say, mother." I said, smiling. Naegi, like Leon, glared at me.
"My point is Leon won't be alone! He'll probably just take Darling Akiyomo like he did for the Christmas Gala." Naegi pointed out.
Leon's date, the one he had brought to the sound room to fool around with while June and I were in there, was Darling Akiyomo, the daughter of a very wealthy and successful businessman.
"Oh, you mean Frisky Darling? Again?" I asked. "Leon, don't you want someone who doesn't... oh, I don't know... get around frequently...?"
Darling has the tendency to sleep around with a lot of guys. At once. All the time.
Leon had only brought her to the Gala to fool around with her, obviously.
"W-Well, I--," Leon cut himself off. "I mean, no. No! I don't care."
"You hesitated!" Ishimaru shouted, pointing an accusing finger at Leon.
Leon turned pink. "N-No I didn't...!"
"Yes you did!" Ishimaru said excitedly. "Little Leon secretly longs to be loved!"
Naegi and I smirked at Leon, who had become a stuttering mess.
"I-I don't! I really don't...!" Leon shouted, but we all knew he was convincing no one.
"So! Do you have someone you like???" Ishimaru said.
Leon turned from pink to red pretty quickly. "N-No...! Not at all! Definitely not!" he immediately said.
Ishimaru's face lit up. "Awesome! Who is she? Do we know her??? I have a feeling we know her...!"
"I'm done having this conversation," Leon huffed, crossing his arms. "Now, we better get to class before--"
The bell rang, signaling we were all late for class.
Leon sighed. "--that happens..." he finished, and with that we all rushed to our next periods.

~Third Person POV~ The night of the Spring Fling was soon upon them, and they were all ready to have a good time and celebrate spring.
June, along with everyone else, had gotten their outfits for the dance and were ready to go.
This time, however, the dance was on a weekend, which meant June had to walk from her house to Hope's Peak to meet up with Byakuya along with her friends.
Soon she arrived at Hope's Peak and entered the gymnasium where everyone else was waiting.
The second Byakuya saw her, he went up to her and smiled. "Hello, June. You're here. I was getting worried you'd ditched me."
June laughed. "Come on, seriously, Byakuya? You know I would never ditch you or do anything like that," she said before she pulled him close. "I'm far too into you to do that."
Byakuya smirked. "Trust me, I know." he said before he leaned in for a kiss.
June, however, didn't lean in too, she backed away from him with a playful smile on her face before she twirled around in her dress. "Like the dress? It was my mother's. I'm surprised it fits me."
Byakuya chuckled. "Jeez, what is it with you and the color blue? Your dress for the Christmas Gala was blue, and now this." he said.
June smiled. "What? I like blue; it's one of my favorite colors."
"Well, obviously," Byakuya snorted before he smiled at her. "And, of course I like the dress, June; you look beautiful in it, like you do in everything you wear." he said. June blushed.
"Seriously? Even when I'm in... a bathrobe or something like that?" she snorted.
Byakuya smirked again. "Oh, most definitely when you're in a bathrobe--you have less clothes on, then."
June blushed harder before she playfully smacked Byakuya's arm. "Hush, perverted boy, just hush." she hummed. To that, Byakuya smirked even more.
"Whatever you say, Junie," he said, leaning into her again. "Whatever you say."
Then he kissed her, and this time June didn't back away; she let him kiss her and she kissed him back, happily wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Ew, you two, get a room," a voice suddenly rang out. "Or, better yet, Byakuya, you can get a room with me."
Byakuya and June immediately pulled apart to see Darling Akiyomo standing before them, wearing too much makeup on her face and a shorter-than-natural dress. She was smirking at Byakuya, staring him up and down.
"What did you just say?" June breathed, clenching her fists and glaring at Darling.
"You heard me. It's a wonder he hasn't gotten bored of you yet and come to me to satisfy his needs," Darling said. "And, trust me, I'm open for business."
June took a threatening step toward Darling before Byakuya held her back.
He stared down Darling. "Sorry, Darling, I'm not into used toys." he said bluntly, and Darling gasped.
"Excuse me?!" she snapped.
June smirked. "You're excused!" she said happily.
Darling immediately glared at her.
"Besides, I could never get tired of June. She's everything and more, and as far as 'satisfying my needs' goes, I don't have a doubt in my mind that June could satisfy me way better than you ever could." Byakuya said. June smiled and blushed again.
Darling's anger spoke volumes. She let out a huff before she spun around and stomped off.
"Yeah, that's right, bitch," June muttered under her breath while narrowing her eyes at Darling. "Walk away. Whore."
Byakuya's eyebrows shot up as his eyes widened and he smiled. "Wow, what creative language! Is my little Junie that possessive of me?" he said.
June's eyes immediately widened. "Oh God, did I literally just say all that??? Wow, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to be so...," Her voice trailed off before she spoke again. "Although, you are my boyfriend after all, and I can't have any cheap and trashy girls trying to take you away from me--it'll be a cold day in hell before I let you go."
Byakuya just kept smiling. "Don't be sorry, June, I like it when you're possessive of me--it's quite a turn-on." he mused.
June couldn't stop blushing. "I, uh, actually really don't know what came over me! Well, I'm glad you like it so much..."
"Oh, believe me," Byakuya said before he drew her close. "I do."
He was about to pull June in for a kiss, when he was suddenly interrupted by their friends bounding up to them.
"Hey! You guys made it!" Leon said. He had Sayaka by his side.
"Yeah! We've been waiting forever. Now, you're finally here!" Sayaka said, smiling.
"Hey, Leon, where's your date?" Byakuya asked.
Leon frowned. "She's busy flirting with every other guy right now..." he mumbled, nodding his head at Darling, who was chatting up three guys and twirling a strand of her hair around her finger flirtatiously.
Sayaka put a hand on Leon's shoulder. "It's okay, you don't want a girl like her anyway. You deserve better than that." she said, and Leon gave her a small smile.
"Yeah, Sayaka's right, Leon; you deserve a girl that won't fool around with other guys while she's currently your date." June agreed.
Leon's small smile turned into a full-on smirk before he wrapped his arm around Sayaka's shoulders and playfully pulled her against him. "Well, I guess that means Sayaka here is my new date." he said.
Sayaka turned pink. "And when did you decide on that?" she asked.
"Just now." Leon said, and Sayaka rolled her eyes and chuckled.
"Plus, you don't really have a date, do you, Sayaka?" June said.
Sayaka stared down at her feet. "No..." she mumbled. She never really went to social events with a date, because she usually went with her friends.
"Well, worry no more! Because, you are now no longer dateless." Leon said, still smirking. Sayaka turned pinker.
"Gr-Great..." she said.
After that, they all joined up with the rest of their friends and danced to the music together.
They danced and danced for hours, it seemed, before June was starting to get tired and short of breath.
She touched Byakuya's shoulder, who was still dancing. "I'm gonna go out for a minute and get a breath of fresh air, okay? I'll be right back."
Byakuya stopped dancing and nodded. "Alright," he said before winking at her. "Don't be too long."
June smiled. "I won't, I promise." she said before she gave him a peck on the cheek and exited the gymnasium through the side door that led outside.
She breathed in the cool night air and smiled. Then she breathed out.
She continued to do this until she heard a slight rustling in some bushes nearby.
She looked around. "Uh, hello?"
No answer.
June shrugged. "Eh. It's probably just some rabbit or something..." she said to herself.
"No, actually, I can guarantee it's definitely not a rabbit..." a voice rang out.
June jumped a little before she spun around and her eyes widened at who now stood before her.
"Leo," June said in surprise, before her eyes immediately narrowed and she clenched her fists. "What are you doing here? What do you want?"
"You, my love," Leo said, taking a step closer to June. "I'm here for you."
June took a step back. "I swear, Leo, if you take another step towards me, I'll get Byakuya. Or, better yet, Erin--and this time I can say for sure she probably will shove her hockey stick up your ass." she snapped.
Leo didn't step back, but he didn't take another step forward either. He stayed, unmoving, in the spot he was standing in. "Well, actually, let me rephrase that--I am here for you, but not just yet; for now, I'm just watching, seeing how everything is going." he said, as if June hadn't spoke.
"You're watching...? Wow. What are you, some freaky stalker? Maybe Byakuya's right--maybe I do need to get a restraining order!" June said.
Leo shook his head. "Oh no, June, there's no need for that. Because, soon, you'll learn to love me again and you'll be mine. And I'll make sure Byakuya won't get in the way of it. Not again, not ever again. You'll be mine, June, and everything will go back to the way it was before Byakuya ruined it!" he said before he swiftly grabbed one of June's arms. "You will be mine, June, one way or the next; no matter what I might have to do."
June looked down nervously at Leo's hand on her arm before she looked back up at Leo's face and glared. "Is that a threat?" she hissed.
Leo didn't flinch, nor did he glare back either. Instead, he looked into June's eyes with a dreamy and faraway expression on his face. "No, chica," he whispered, leaning in close to her. "It's a promise." He then let go of her, and she immediately scrambled away from him.
"Now, go on, June. I bet your friends are missing you at the dance. Go back inside and have fun." Leo said.
June didn't say another word as she ran back inside, not even looking back.
When she made it back inside, the music was still blaring and people were still dancing.
When June got back to Byakuya, she was in a cold sweat. "Byakuya, we need to talk," she said to him before grabbing on to his arm. "Please."
Byakuya stopped dancing again and looked down at his girlfriend, who looked worried and troubled. "Why? Is something wrong?" he asked, now concerned.
"I just need to see you in private." June said.
Byakuya stood there for a second before he nodded. "Okay. Sure. I know just where to go."
He took June's hand in his and walked her out of the gymnasium, and kept walking until they reached their destination.
"The sound room," Byakuya said as he and June looked at it. "It's the perfect place to be alone. We could talk here."
June nodded and blushed at the memory of the last time they were in the sound room together.
Byakuya opened the door and they let themselves in before Byakuya closed the door behind them.
Then, June proceeded to tell him about what happened with Leo. Every single bit of it.
When she was done, Byakuya's eyes were narrowed and his fists were clenched tightly. "That's it. Where is he? I told him not to come near you ever again, and he foolishly disobeyed me. Now, where is the bastard so I can once again beat him senseless?" His voice had a slight growl to it.
"He's probably not even out there anymore," June said before she put a hand on Byakuya's shoulder. "Leave it alone, Byakuya. He didn't hurt me. It's fine."
Fury flashed across Byakuya's eyes. "'Fine'? 'Fine'?! It is NOT fine! He's stalking you, June! It's harassment! This needs to stop!" he shouted.
"I know... But I highly doubt he's serious. I think he's just a drama queen who wants attention and the satisfaction of freaking us out. So, I say we don't give it to him." June said.
Byakuya just stood there. "Well, June, we at least need to tell the others! Either you tell them, or I will!" he said.
June huffed before she reluctantly said, "Fine. I'll tell them," Then she gave Byakuya a look. "But only if you promise not to do anything stupid or tell anyone else--I want this just between you and I, and our friends. I definitely don't want my uncle, dad, or Jesse to find out! They already know about Leo beating and almost raping me, and believe me, it took a hell of a lot convincing them NOT to press charges and start any more drama like that. I mean, if they found out, they'd think Leo not only beat me and almost raped me, but is now threatening me too! And, he probably isn't even threatening me! He probably just wants to get under my skin and freak us all out."
Byakuya sighed before he nodded. "Fine. Deal. And, you're probably right; Leo is only doing this for attention and to psyche us out. He's already done enough, so we won't let him scare us and make us worry about something that probably isn't even worth worrying about," he said. "Besides, I made myself pretty damn clear that if Leo ever hurt you again, I'd make him wish he was never born. And, when I make threats like those, I usually carry them out."
June smiled. "That you do, Byakuya, that you do." she said.
"So. When should we tell them?" Byakuya asked.
June shuffled around awkwardly. "Well... after the Spring Fling is over. I want them to have fun before we spill more Leo drama all over them." she said, and Byakuya nodded in agreement.
"Again, you're right," he said before he became serious. "Now, although we're sure Leo only did that for attention, I'm going to be on the lookout for him and I'm going to make sure you're not alone as often as you are. I just want to be safe."
"Okay, fine. I got it," June said. "Uh, how about we get back to the dance? I bet our friends are waiting for us."
"Good idea. Let's go." Byakuya said. And with that, June opened the sound room door and they both left to return to the Spring Fling.
"When do you think the universe is gonna cut us a break?" June asked Byakuya as they arrived back to the gymnasium.
Byakuya shook his head. "I don't know, but hopefully soon."
