Chapter 40: Welcome to a thing called love

~June's POV~ What do you do if you fall in love with your worst enemy?

Because I fell for Byakuya Togami; I fell for him HARD.

Wait. Back up--"worst enemy"?

No. Not anymore. However, that is what I would have said if Byakuya and I still hated each other which, thank goodness, we don't.

Because he's my boyfriend now.

Byakuya Togami is my boyfriend.

Boyfriend. And I'm his girlfriend.

It's so... weird and unusual to think about or say... I'm still not used to it.

Although, thinking about it and saying it, even if I wasn't used to it, was enough to make me giddy with happiness. I finally got the thing I've wanted so badly since the third grade.

When Leo and I officially became a couple, I wasn't anywhere near this excited or happy--I guess, deep down, I knew that he was never the one for me.

Byakuya was.

And now I have him.

For now, life is kind to me.

The next day at lunch, I stared out dreamily into space, thinking about Byakuya and I.

Yes, I know, I must sound like an annoying, clingy girlfriend already, but I couldn't help it. Wouldn't you feel that way if you finally got the one thing that you wanted after years of wanting it?

Thought so.

"Yo, June! Earth to June...!"

"Leon, you've been calling her name for about a minute now; she's not going to answer you."

"Fine. I've got another way to get her attention, anyway."

I suddenly felt something soft make contact with my forehead, but I didn't care and I shook it off.

"Omg, Leon! What the hell?! Don't throw grapes at her!"

"I'll throw whatever the hell I please at her if it stops her from staring at nothing all creepy-like like that!"

I then felt someone shake my shoulders. "June. June! You're needed back on Earth."

I snapped out of my daze to see all my friends, including Erin and Kyouko, around me.

Byakuya and Makoto weren't here yet, however, because they were still getting their lunches.

Erin's hands were on my shoulders. "Jeez, June; we get that you and Byakuya are all lovey-dovey after your amazingly romantic date last night, like you've told us all several times now. In fact, you won't stop yapping on about it, and when you aren't yapping on about it, you're staring off into la la land," she said. "We all get it. You and Byakuya are a couple. Message received. Congratulations. Now, can you please turn back into the June we all know and love and stop being Lovestruck Zombie June?"

I sighed and nodded. "Okay. Yeah, you're right. I'll dial it down." I said.

Erin smiled. "Good," she said, then she turned to our friends. "Did you guys study for the science test today? Because I--"

But Erin was cut off. "Hello, beautiful."

We all looked up to see Byakuya and Makoto standing by our table, lunch trays in hand. Byakuya was looking down at me, smiling.

He called me beautiful.

I'm pretty sure my cheeks were tinted bright pink. "H-Hey Byakuya."

Then Byakuya and Makoto took their usual seats, Byakuya's next to mine.

Once he set his lunch tray down, he wrapped an arm around my waist gave me a peck on my lips, which I'm pretty sure made me blush even more. "How was your day?" he asked me.

I pecked him back. "Come on, Byakuya, you know how my day was. We have homeroom and math together." I said.

"Still, that won't make me want to stop talking to you. So, how was your day?" Byakuya said.

I smiled. "It was great, mainly because I got to see you."

Byakuya smiled back at me before he leaned in and our lips met.

Before we could even start kissing, however, we were interrupted.

By Leon, who was fake-gagging. "Ew...! You guys are nasty! Save it for the bedroom, would ya'??? Some of us are trying to eat." he said.

Byakuya detached his lips from mine before he turned to Leon and glared.

Leon went back to eating his food.

I'm pretty sure he knew what we all did--Mad Byakuya was a scary Byakuya.

Byakuya turned back to me and gave me a brief kiss on the cheek. "Don't listen to him; he's just jealous." he whispered, and chuckled.

"I'm sure he is." I whispered back, and returned the brief kiss.

I heard Erin sigh. "Well, welcome to a thing called love..." she mumbled.

"More like, welcome to a thing called nasty..." Leon mumbled. I rolled my eyes.

"This coming from the same guy who tried to take his date to the Christmas Gala into the sound room to do God knows what." Byakuya pointed out, and we all laughed.

Leon turned red. "Shut up!" he hissed. "Besides, you can't talk, Togami! You and June did God knows what in that sound room...!"

I felt my cheeks heat up immediately. "Oh, zip it, Leon."

"What she said." Byakuya said before he began eating his food.

~Third Person POV~ Soon the school day came to a close, ending the school week. Everyone exited Hope's Peak and headed home for the weekend.

Leo Gonzalez lifted the hood of his hoodie firmly over his head to hide his face. He watched as June and her friends left the school and started walking off the school grounds.

Leo gaped and sneered when he noticed Byakuya's arm around June's waist, as if it belonged there.

Leo almost vomited when he saw June and Byakuya share a brief--but clearly meaningful--kiss, as if it was completely natural and meant to happen.

It all made Leo sick.

How dare Byakuya Togami get him kicked out of school just because he was jealous of Leo and June fooling around in a closet because they were in love and June clearly wanted it; Leo remembered how she screamed, how she screamed his name.

Her screams were music to his ears.

Byakuya had overreacted in a fit of jealous rage and yanked June out of Leo's embrace. Then, Byakuya and his stupid friends had the nerve to go to the headmaster and say what Leo and June were doing wasn't consensual. Then, Byakuya again had the utter nerve to touch Leo's girl and date her?

Leo was absolutely shaking with rage when he saw June's beautiful face light up with a kind smile as she laughed at something Byakuya had said. Byakuya then placed a soft kiss on her shoulder, causing her to giggle, and Leon, one of the stupid friends, to fake-gag.

Leo couldn't wait until he'd get his hands on June. He would hit her beautiful face as punishment for letting Byakuya take her from him. June, even though she never admitted it, secretly enjoyed the punishments Leo gave her, and Leo knew it.

Everything had been perfect--just the way Leo wanted it.

And then that bastard Byakuya just had to come along and ruin it.

"No matter," Leo reminded himself. "Everything will go back to normal soon enough." Just have patience.

Soon he would again have June, and this time he wouldn't let her go.

Not ever again.
