Chapter 2
Chapter 2: The Ultimate Lucky Student
~June's POV~ As Erin and I walked in the school, we looked around.
"Woah... Even though we've been in here before, this place's size still shocks me..." Erin mumbled.
"Tell me about it." I said.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I took it out of my pocket and answered it.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hello, June. So you're finally here?"
I smiled when I immediately recognized the voice on the other end.
"Kyouko!" I said happily. Erin smiled.
"Hey, cousin. I've been waiting. So, you're here?" Kyouko said on the other end.
Kyouko Kirigiri. She's my cousin. And guess what? She attends Hope's Peak. As a detective prodigy.
Kyouko's basically a female Sherlock Holmes. She can solve any mystery you throw at her. She's insanely smart too.
"Yep, I'm here. So is Erin." I said over the phone.
"That's great. You guys are going to love it here at Hope's Peak. It'll grow on you. And the people here aren't bad either." Kyouko said.
"How has Hope's Peak Academy been for you?" I asked.
"It's been great. I mean, the classes are challenging at times, but I've made friends along the way." Kyouko said.
I raised my eyebrows. "Friends? Really? That's great, Kyouko!"
Kyouko having friends was unusual. She usually had trouble with meeting people and making friends. Much like me.
"Yes, I did make friends. They're good people. But, some of them are... Unique... Yes, I believe that's the best way to put it." Kyouko said.
"Unique"?
"How unique are these friends of yours...?" I asked, curious.
"You'll see. And they're prodigies, like you and Erin." Kyouko said. I nodded.
Unique, huh? I know my fair share of unique people... Like my family... And that's about it...
"I gotta go, I just arrived at my dorm room. I have to set up my things and wait for my roommate." Kyouko said.
"Alright. I hope you don't get stuck with anyone awful." I said. Kyouko chuckled.
"Same with you. Goodbye, cousin."
I smiled. "Bye."
"Say hi to Erin for me." Kyouko said.
"Will do." I said before she hung up. I turned to Erin.
"Kyouko says hi." I said. Erin nodded.
"Hi back." She said. I smiled.
I looked at my watch. I sighed. "It's time to go to the Headmaster's office and get our schedules and room keys." I said. Erin nodded.
"Alrighty." She said as she gripped her hockey stick firmly, one of the things she brought along.
Then, we were on our way to the Headmaster's.
What's lucky for us is that the Headmaster so happens to be our uncle, he's Kyouko's father.
That may have been one of the reasons we got into Hope's Peak... Even though our uncle specifically told us that he only let us in for our talents, not just because we happen to be related.
Soon, we made it to our uncle's office. I knocked on the door.
"Come in." A voice replied.
I opened the door, letting Erin and I in. Our uncle was reading a book when we entered. He put it down and met our gaze. He smiled.
"Good morning, girls. It's a pleasure to see you. I assume you're both here for your schedules and room keys?" Our uncle said. Erin nodded.
"Yep! That's what we're here for," Erin said. "Speaking of our dorm rooms, you got me a decent roommate, right...?"
Uncle chuckled. "It's not up to me, Erin. The students' roommates are picked at random. I have no control over who you get."
Erin sighed. "Well, I hope it's no one annoying." She said.
"I assure you, most of the students here are mature and polite." Uncle said.
"Wait, 'most'???" I said.
Uncle ignored my question. "Here are your schedules and room keys, girls," He said as he handed us our things. "It's a delight to have you here with us this year. Welcome to Hope's Peak Academy."
Erin and I smiled as we took our schedules and room keys.
"Thanks, uncle. We'll see you around." I said.
"Yeah." Erin said.
"Same to you girls. Goodbye." Uncle said.
We waved goodbye before we left. Luckily, our schedules included a school map.
"Good," Erin said when she saw the school map. "This place is fucking huge. I'll have trouble finding the bathroom."
I chuckled at this. "Uh huh."
According to the school map, we were about to exit the school and enter one of the buildings next to it (where some dorm rooms were located) when I suddenly slammed right into someone.
I had the wind knocked out of me when my back hit the ground. Hard. I winced.
"Oh my God, June!" Erin exclaimed.
My ears were ringing when I was suddenly pulled up by someone.
"Oh my gosh...! I'm so sorry...! Are you alright?!" Someone said. The voice came from a guy, definitely. When I was on my feet again, I rubbed my eyes and looked at who helped me up.
It was a boy. He had brown hair and green eyes. And he wasn't bad looking.
"Are you okay?! I'm so sorry...!" He said. I suddenly snapped out of my daze.
"Y-Yes... I'm fine... It's okay..." I said.
"No it's not. It's my fault, I wasn't looking where I was going. I'm sorry." The guy said.
"No, really. It's alright. I wasn't looking where I was going."
"Well, I'm still sorry anyway," The guy said. Then, he stuck out his hand. "Hi, I'm Makoto Naegi. What's your name?"
I shook his hand. "Hi. I'm June Takahashi. And this is my sister, Erin Takahashi." I said.
Suddenly, Makoto's eyes widened. "Wait, did you say Erin Takahashi???" He said.
Here it comes...
I sighed. "Yes, yes I did..."
"The Erin Takahashi??? As in the one on TV???" Makoto said. I sighed again.
"Yeah, that Erin Takahashi." I mumbled.
"The famous hockey star??? Wow. Lemme guess, you're here as a hockey prodigy?" Makoto said. Erin smiled and nodded.
"Yep! That'd be me: Ultimate Hockey Star! Or Super Highschool Level Hockey Star, either way it's the same thing." Erin said. Makoto nodded.
"Wow... I got to meet Erin Takahashi, the hockey star... Huh, not many people get to say that." He said.
Wow... I'm surprised he isn't fangirling like most people do when they meet Erin. They also sometimes try and get a picture or an autograph from her. Sometimes BOTH.
Suddenly, Makoto looked at me. "Oh, I'm sorry... I'm being rude... Here I am yakking on about your sister and I don't even know you yet... Sorry..."
I nodded understandingly. "It's alright. I'm used to it." I said.
"Anyhow, what's your talent...? At least, that's what I'm assuming you got into Hope's Peak for... Unless you're rich or smart...?" Makoto said.
"No, I'm none of those things... Well, I'm moderately smart, just not smart enough to get into this school," I said. "I'm here because of my talent: gymnastics. I'm the Ultimate Gymnast or 'Super Highschool Level Gymnastics Prodigy'."
Makoto nodded. "Wow, cool." He said.
"Yeah, what are you here for?" I said.
"Well... I'm here because of my talent as well: the Ultimate Lucky Student, or Super Highschool Level Luck." Makoto said.
Huh?
"What? What's that mean?" Erin said.
"It's exactly how it sounds; I got into this school on account of my luck." Makoto said.
"Uh, no offense, but is that even a talent?" I asked.
Makoto shrugged. "I dunno, apparently." He said. I nodded.
"So, you have good luck?" Erin asked. Makoto nodded.
"Exactly." He said.
Huh... That's a unique talent... Maybe Makoto is one of Kyouko's unique friends...
"Oh, well, that's cool." I said.
Makoto shot me a friendly smile. "Thanks. You are too."
I blushed slightly.
"Th-Thanks..." I said.
"No problem. Anyhow, where are you on your way to?" Makoto said.
"Oh, we were just on our way out of the school and to our dorm rooms." Erin explained. Makoto nodded.
"Oh, I'm heading to the Headmaster's to pick up my new schedule and room key." Makoto said.
I nodded. "Oh, we were just there."
Then, Makoto looked up at the clock. "Oh boy, first period is gonna start soon... I only have fifteen minutes to get my schedule and room key and get to my dorm room...! I better go, it was nice meeting you two, I hope we get to see each other more! Bye!" Makoto said before he waved at us.
We waved back. "Bye!" We both said before Makoto turned the corner and left.
Then, Erin and I continued our journey to our dorm rooms.
"Hm, June?" Erin suddenly said.
"What?" I asked.
"That Makoto was pretty cute."
"Uh huh."
"Maybe you two could get together some time? He seemed nice."
I rolled my eyes at that. "God, Erin. No way. I don't have time for a boyfriend or anything of that nature," I said. "Besides, we just MET. I highly doubt he's in love with me."
Erin sighed. "Come on, June...! Live a little! Look, I know what happened the last time you had a friend and you had feelings for him! I know it didn't turn out well at all! But you've got to let that go and get out there and make new friends, meet new people!" Erin said.
"No, Erin. For the millionth time, no." I said. Erin groaned. I rolled my eyes again.
I then looked over my schedule as we walked. "Which dorm are you in?" I asked, changing the subject.
Erin stopped groaning and looked at her schedule. "Hm... It says here I'm in dorm A."
I frowned. "Aw man... I'm in dorm B..."
Erin shrugged. "It's alright. It could've been worse, you could've ended up farther away from me in dorm C or D." She said.
According to the school information pamphlet we got with our schedules, there were four girl dorms and four guy dorms, each called dorm A, B, C, or D.
"I hope our roommates aren't total assholes." Erin said.
"Same here." I agreed.
Soon, we arrived in front of the dorm A building.
"Well, this is my stop. I better go locate my room. Good luck finding yours." Erin said.
"Yeah, you too." I said before Erin disappeared inside dorm A.
I walked away from the building and soon approached the dorm B building.
I walked inside.
There were five floors in each dorm building. So, naturally, they had elevators.
I walked inside an elevator and pressed the button of which floor I needed to go on.
My schedule said my dorm room was on the third floor, room 317.
Once I got to the third floor, I exited the elevator and saw rows and rows of doors.
I walked down the hallway, in search for my room.
Hm... 312... 313... 314... 315... 316... Aha! Room 317!
I stuck my key in the keyhole of the door, turned the doorknob, and let myself in.
The room consisted of two beds, a bathroom, a small laundry room (more of a space, actually) complete with a washer and dryer, and a small flat screen TV.
Once inside, I saw my roommate organizing her things.
Then, my roommate turned around once she saw me enter.
My roommate was Kyouko Kirigiri. My cousin.
I immediately smiled. "Kyouko! You're my roommate???" I said.
"Apparently so. And you are mine?" Kyouko said. I nodded.
"Yep! I am," I said. Then I let out a sigh of relief I didn't even know I was holding. "Phew...! Thank goodness my roommate is you! I was afraid I'd get stuck with someone rude or stuck up or something!"
Kyouko smiled. "Well, as you can see, that is not the case. I'm glad I ended up with you as well." She said. I smiled back before I began unloading my things.
Hm, so far this year is going great!
And as long as everything goes my way (so far it is), this year is gonna be nice and predictable! Just the way I like it!
Nothing unexpected can happen now!
Guess what? I was completely wrong.
