Chapter 13

Chapter 13: The Ultimates spend a day at the beach

~Third Person POV~ "I can't believe I let you drag me here, Naegi." Byakuya said as he and Makoto approached the beach.

Makoto sighed. "Byakuya, I dragged you here because you don't get out enough. And, since your ankle is almost completely healed, I thought it'd be a nice day to go to the beach. Plus, all our friends are here." He said.

"They're not my friends, and neither are you. I don't have any friends." Byakuya pointed out. Makoto sighed again.

"See what I mean? This is why you don't have friends! You're antisocial and rude, you don't get out enough. This will help all that." Makoto said.

"I don't WANT help, I'm fine just the way I am!" Byakuya huffed.

"This is gonna be a long day..." Makoto mumbled.

~~~~~~~~~~~
"Omg, hey, June!"
As Hina, Kyouko, and I walked on the beach together, Sayaka and Erin were waiting for us. Sakura, Ibuki, and Sonia.
They were all in swimsuits.
"June, you actually came. I thought for sure you wouldn't want to." Erin said.
"I didn't. But our lovely cousin dragged me here." June said.
Erin suddenly looked behind June and groaned. "Uck, he's here...?"
June and Kyouko turned to see Makoto and Byakuya walking along the beach. Byakuya looked pissed.
"Oh great... Byakuya's here..." June mumbled.
"Why does is seem that everywhere we are that he's there too?" Hina asked, irritated.
"It doesn't matter. Just ignore him." June said. Erin nodded.
"Yeah, we came here to gave fun, not to worry about other people." Sayaka said.
"Yeah! So let's go swimming!!!" Ibuki said excitedly.
"Yeah! Let us go!" Sonia said. Then they and everyone else ran into the ocean.
"Hey, June, you coming?" Hina asked.
"Nah, I'll just sit here and watch." June said.
Hina shrugged. "Suit yourself." Then she joined the rest of them in the water.
~June's POV~ The sun shone down on my body, which made me feel warm and tired.
I yawned. "I think I'll try and take a nice and relaxing nap..." I said before I closed my eyes and immediately dozed off.
"Happy Valentines Day, Byakuya!"
I held out a box of candy shaped like a heart with a note on it to Byakuya.
It was Valentines Day, Byakuya and I were in the fourth grade.
Byakuya smiled as he took my gift. "Thanks, Junie! I bet I'll love it!" He said. I smiled and blushed.
I've had a crush on Byakuya since the third grade, so, I've liked him for about a year now.
I'm not sure if he feels the same though.
"I hope you do." I said.
Byakuya then opened the note and read it out loud to himself.
~Byakuya,
Not many people have
A terrific friend like you
And have an amazing friendship
That always rings true.
You're amazing, and special, and everything in between.
So take this box of chocolates
And know what our friendship means.
Gobble up these chocolates
And enjoy them of you may.
And don't forget to have
An awesome Valentines Day!
Your friend,
June~
Byakuya's eyes widened after he finished reading. Then he smiled. "June, did you write this?"
I looked down and blushed again. "Y-Yeah..."
Byakuya kept smiling. "It's amazing! I love it!" He said. I looked up.
He's DOES???
"You do???" I said.
"Yes! It's great! You're good at writing poems! You should write them more often!" Byakuya said.
I blushed more. "I'm glad you liked it... And, I'll write more, if you want me to..." I said.
"I would love it!" Byakuya said.
I felt all warm and fuzzy inside.
Byakuya then shot me a smile and winked at me. "You won't BELIEVE what I got you for when White Day comes around!" He said.
"I can't wait to see it." I said.
"You'll love it!" Byakuya said.
"I'm sure I will..." I said as I probably smiled like an idiot.
I snapped awake.
I looked around and realized I was at the beach.
I sighed. Why do I keep having these stupid memory dreams?!
I didn't even HAVE THEM until Byakuya and I met again!
Hm... I wonder how long I've been asleep...
~Byakuya's POV~ Naegi and I sat in lawn chairs at the beach that he had forced me to go to.
I then noticed that Naegi was staring over at a group of girls.
I also noticed that group of girls was Hina, Sakura, Kyouko, Sonia, Sayaka, and Erin.
Apparently, they were here at the beach too.
I just hope I don't have to interact with any of them.
"Hey, June's here too." Naegi said.
I turned to see June laying on the beach, not really doing anything but looking up at the sky boredly.
Oh great... June's here...
I have the feeling she was dragged here against her will too.
Suddenly, I saw that Naegi was staring at Kyouko.
I sighed. "Naegi, if you're just going to stare at Kirigiri constantly, then why don't you just go over there and talk to her while you're at it? Watching you is making me, somewhat, feel the slightest bit of pity for you."
Naegi instantly stopped staring after I said that. He turned red. "Th-That's NOT what I was doing, B-Byakuya...! I was just... It doesn't matter...!" He studdered.
I smirked. This is somewhat amusing.
"Please, don't make petty excuses for yourself, it just makes me want to pity you more. It's obvious you think of Kirigiri as more than a friend." I said.
Naegi turned even more red. "I... I really don't...!" He said.
Well, as long as I'm here, I might as well make Naegi feel miserable.
I smirked. "You love her."
"N-No I don't...!"
"Yes, Naegi, you do."
"I don't!"
"You do."
"I really don't!"
"You really do."
"Don't!"
"Do."
Naegi groaned. "Why don't you just quit it, Byakuya?"
"Because I like making you annoyed. It's entertainment to me." I said.
"Whatever. And don't even pretend you don't like someone." Naegi said.
I looked at him. "Since when do I like someone? I don't like anyone." I said.
"Maybe not now. But you have to had at some point in you life! Everyone does." Naegi said.
"Everyone but me." I said.
"You're lying, Byakuya, I can tell. Now, who is it?" Naegi said.
"Who's what?"
"Who do you like?"
"No one. And I never did. And I never will."
"We both know that's not true."
"It's true. I don't."
"Don't lie, Byakuya, it's making me feel pity for you."
I rolled my eyes. "I don't and never did like anyone, Naegi. And even if I did, you wouldn't be able to get it out of me, no matter how hard you tried."
I hate to admit this, but it's a lie and Naegi's actually right... I did, at one point in my life, a long time ago, have feelings for someone who shall remain nameless. But, as I just said, that was a LONG TIME AGO, and, in fairness, it was probably one-sided anyhow. There's no way she liked me back.
Maybe, if she had, things might be different now.
But, it doesn't matter. I'm fine just the way I turned out. I regret nothing.
Nothing at all.
I was relieved when Naegi stopped pressing the matter. "Whatever. If you say so." He said. Though it's obvious he still doesn't believe me.
Like I said, it doesn't matter. Not anymore.
Because the person I used to like no longer cares for me.
And, I no longer care for her.
Naegi's head suddenly snapped up.
I looked at him. "What is it now?" I asked, clearly annoyed.
"I know who it is." Naegi said.
"Know who what is?" I questioned.
"I know who you like... or who you used to like." Naegi said.
I gave a snort. "Really? Then, pray tell, who?" I asked.
"It's June." Naegi said.
My eyes widened a bit before I immediately went back to my usual facial expression. "What? That's ridiculous!" I said.
"It's not, Byakuya. You know how I know?" Naegi said.
"You don't know anything because you're wrong." I said.
Naegi shook his head. "No, Byakuya, I'm very right. I know because of you and June's past. The reason you hate each other. It has something to do with this, doesn't it? Something happened, like you said, that made you and June despise each other. But, before that, I have reason to believe that you two were a little more than close."
We sat in silence.
"Naegi, you know far too much for your own good. And, if you tell ANYONE about this, you'll wish you were never born once my family's private police force is done with you. Do I make myself clear?" I said seriously.
"Yes, you do. I get it. I won't tell because it's not my place and I have no reason to tell." Naegi said.
I nodded. "Good. This discussion never happened." I said. Naegi nodded.
"I just have one question." He said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Why do you and June hate each other?"
I sighed. "Naegi, you've asked me this question many times. This is no different. My answer is still the same: I'm not telling you, it doesn't concern you."
"It's just... What happened?" Naegi said.
"You can keep asking, but my answer will always be the same." I said.
Naegi eventually sighed. "Fine. You don't have to tell me. But, I will find out somehow."
"Yeah, good luck with that." I said.
