Chapter 11

Chapter 11: Survival of the fittest... Not.
*Part 1*

~Byakuya's POV~ The next day, June and I stood in the line with the rest of our classmates, waiting to see who would go first in the VSR.

Of course, I was definitely LESS THAN eager about this whole ordeal.

Plus, don't forget the fact that I got paired with June.

Out of ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE, I was paired with June.

Right now, we're all waiting to see which team would go first.

Hopefully, it won't be June and I. But, with the ways things have been going lately, I wouldn't be surprised if it DID turn out to be us...

Mr. Xander, our homeroom teacher, walked back and forth in front of all the teams.

"Hm... Who should go first...? Who, who, who...? Hm..." He said as he walked.

He looked at each and every one of us, wondering who should go first.

"Hm... I think the team that should go first should probably be..." Mr. Xander said.

I swear to God, if he picks us--

"June and Byakuya!" Mr. Xander said. "Why don't you two go first?"

God. Damn. It.

Note to self: get Mr. Xander fired and sue the school.

June let out an irritated groan while I just rolled my eyes.

Meanwhile, the rest of our classmates let out breaths of relief, none of them would undergo the probable humiliation of going first.

Mr. Xander led June and I to the VSR.

He patted us both on the backs. "Good luck, I'll see you two in forty-eight hours."

Beside me, June nervously gulped a little.

I just stared straight ahead.

Then, June and I entered the VSR.

At first, when we entered, it was just the same as last time; an empty, blank, white room.

Then, suddenly, music was heard as the VSR came to life.

All of a sudden, trees and leaves and a bunch of other plants appeared around June and I.

We suddenly heard Mr. Xander's voice over a loudspeaker.

"June, Byakuya, the setting I have chosen for you two is the jungle."

"Oh great... Just peachy-keen...!" June mumbled sarcastically.

"This is ridiculous..." I mumbled to myself.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually kinda agree with you there..." June said.

"Your task is to be able to survive in here for forty-eight hours. You'll have to find your own food, water, and means of survival," Mr. Xander said. "And your time starts now! See you in forty-eight hours!" Then, he hung up.

June and I looked at each other.

"I guess we should start exploring?" June suggested. I rolled my eyes.

"Sure. Whatever. Let's just get these forty-eight hours done and over with." I said. June just sighed before she started walking ahead of me.

This is going to be fun... NOT.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hours later we were still walking. By now, my feet were starting to hurt.
Suddenly, I heard a growling noise.
I looked around cautiously.
June sighed. "Don't worry, that was just my stomach... I'm a bit hungry..." She muttered. I gave her a look and rolled my eyes.
But, I have to admit, I was actually starving. I felt like I hadn't eaten in weeks...
I groaned. "How long have we been in here?"
June checked her watch. "About five hours, ten minutes, and fifty-nine seconds," She said miserably. "But, hey, who's counting?"
I groaned once again. Then, I felt my stomach growl.
"You're hungry too, huh?" June asked.
"Um, what does it sound like?" I said in an obvious tone of voice. June rolled her eyes.
"Oh, I dunno...! It sounds like something's about to explode is what it sounds like...!" She said sarcastically.
"Yes, June, I am hungry." I snapped.
"Well, what am I supposed to do about it??? WE HAVE NO FOOD." June said.
"Well, you ARE the one that asked...!" I said.
June just sighed in response. "Then we have no choice; if we have no food, we'll have to find some."
"That might be a good idea..." I admitted.
So, for the next hour or so, June and I searched for food, and sadly found none.
"Ugh... I am SO HUNGRY... Seriously, how friggin' hard is it to find FOOD in the JUNGLE?!" June complained.
"I don't know! I've never been in the jungle before, June!" I snapped.
We were walking, looking desperately for any food, when June suddenly stopped.
"What is it now?" I said.
"Look!" June said as she pointed up at something. I looked up at what she was pointing.
There was an extremely tall tree with several bananas attached to it.
We had come across a banana tree.
June smiled. "FINALLY...!" She said. Then, she looked at me. "Do you think they're real, or some kind of a holographic illusion?"
I studied the bananas carefully. "Well, they look pretty real to me."
"Just making sure... I mean, we are in a room made specifically for holographic images...," June said. Then she turned to me. "They're pretty high up..."
"Oh, stop your complaining. I'll climb up and get them down, easy." I said. June's eyes widened.
"What?" I asked.
"It's just... I thought you would make me climb up and get them... I didn't actually think you'd volunteer yourself..." June said.
I glared. "And why wouldn't I? I'm climbing the tree because if I made you do it, it'd take FOREVER." I said.
June's eyes shot daggers at me. I just smirked at her, glad that I made her mad.
"Whatever, Togami. Just climb the dumb tree and get me some damn food. I'm STARVING!!!" June snapped.
"That's what I'm doing, idiot." I snapped before I began to climb the tree.
Surprisingly, the tree actually looked and felt like... Well... An actual tree.
I got no higher than two or three feet before I lost my balance and fell.
I landed on my back. I winced.
"Nice job, Togami. Great job. Make that tree fear you." June said.
"Shut up, June." I snapped before I carefully got up and began to climb the tree again.
Then, I fell again.
"Um--" June started.
"Don't say a word." I snapped. June just shrugged her shoulders. I began climbing again.
When I fell for the third time, June looked down at me. "Wow, you really showed me...!" She said sarcastically.
I glared up at her. "Whatever... Let's see you do any better!" I stood up.
June smiled. "Gladly." She said before she rubbed her hands together.
Then, she got into some sort of stance. I looked at her.
Then, with one swift jump, she grabbed ahold of one of the tree branches and swung on top of it.
After that, she swung swiftly off that branch and landed on an even higher branch. She was then high up enough to reach some of the bananas.
After she got at least ten bananas in her arms, and swung back down off the branch, flipped over, before she landed on her feet in front of me.
My eyes widened at what she just did. "H-How did you--?"
June looked pleased with herself. "Um, I'm a gymnast, Togami. I suggest next time you think before you speak," She said before she walked ahead of me. "Now come on, let's go find a place to eat!"
I stood, planted in the same spot, dumbfounded at what June just did.
I then snapped out of it before I followed June to wherever she was headed.
This was certainly going to be a very long forty-eight hours...
