chapter nine !
└─── °∘❉∘° ───┘
June started to worry as she started to flee. Ascending a stack of stones, she glanced back and noticed Coral following closely behind her.
She slipped through a big vent before Coral could reach her. Just in time for June to surpass an injury, she hid in between the large metal vent.
"Come out, come out where ever you are!" Coral taunted with a grin as she walked in circles. "You can't hide forever little miss Juniper."
There was a small cracks between the vents so June was able to see what was happening inside the arena. She sat back, her breaths were low and heavy as she tried to catch it.
She watched with a hand raised to her mouth as Carol used her pitchfork to stab Tanner in the stomach.
June was still inside the passageway a few moments later. She noticed Dill coughing and peered through the gaps to see him.
"No." Unaware that she had laced it with something, she sighed as she witnessed her approach the jar. She watched Dill take a sip of the water and tears welled up in her eyes.
She averted her gaze because she could no longer bear to stare. An angry shout rang out across the arena, startling June.
Through the gaps, she saw Reaper on the ground with Dill's corpse spread out across his lap.
A tear fell down her cheek as she watching Reaper hold onto his partners lifeless body. Juniper could help but feel so guilty about her death.
He rips down the capitol flag and gathers the fallen tributes. He places them peacefully and puts the flag over them as a burial. Reaper shouts in fury and sadness as all his emotions are released.
She killed her and did nothing about it, she just stayed silent. She couldn't believe how evil she could be as she watched an innocent person die in her hands.
As the negative thoughts rushed through Junes head, out of nowhere a sharp object was struck through from the slits of the vent. "Here birdie, birdie." Coral tarts shoving her weapon through trying to reach June.
With fast thinking, Juniper was able to move out of the way. June twisted over so she was crawling into the vent on all fours. It was hot inside the vent; her hair stuck onto her body, and her clothing adhering to her arms.
She continued to crawl till she came to a stop upon noticing a little hole. She could hear Coral's partners under neath her, planning to do something to her, "Coral, I think she's above us." Treech spoke quietly.
Juniper carefully placed her hand through her boot, reaching for her compact. She opened the small piece and shook the powder down the hole landing on Treech.
As she pored the white powder down a trident bursted through the bottom. June screamed as the trident almost hit her, she was quick to get out of the way. She prayed that the powder would gotten onto Treech or even Coral.
Coral cackled as she kept stabbing through the roof trying to injure her rival. Juniper cried out as the vent fell down, She dropped to the bottom, She quickly stood up and began sprinting with two more tributes as the Coral pursued her.
They managed to escape the small area and flee to the main arena, Juniper was ahead of the others and looked around to see if there was any where else she could hid even for a few minutes and time she could spare from Coral and her minions was freedom to June.
The trio paused as a massive drone emerged overhead, dangling a sizable container. A strong gust of wind was brought about by the drone's blades. The force was nearly capable to topple June's smaller form.
Everyone was left peering at the metal box and pondering what was inside as the drone set it down and took off. The little girl, Wovey, showed up out of nowhere, approaching what was inside.
"Is it over?" Her voice saddened as she walked closer. "Can we go home yet?" She asks waiting for someone or something to respond.
"Wovey. Get away from there!" Juniper warned her, Wovey continued to walk. "Wovey." Reaper called out as well worried for what was about to happen.
The orange haired girl took a step forward, as she did the glass shattered and tons of snakes poured out. The snakes covered the entire arena, as they spilled out they quickly smothered Wovey.
June ran quickly to the large pile of rocks, trying to get higher, up away from the snakes. The snakes continued the kill the tributes — their next victims being Reaper and one of Coral's minions.
As June reached for the rocks Coral held onto her. "Please, Juniper." She cried out holding onto the end of her foot.
The colourful snakes already made their way up half of Coral's body. It was to Kate for June to save the 'poor' girl. "Help me." Coral pleaded still holding onto June.
"It's not fair." Coral said, pleading for her life. "I can't have killed them all for nothing."Juniper froze at the scene, there was no possible way of her being able to help Coral get out.
By the time June could come up with a plan Coral was already dead lying under the snakes. Juniper covered her mouth not wanting to cry, knowing that she was still being watched.
At last, she was the only tribute left. She made it to the end. A sigh of relief left her as she rested her hand down.
But the snakes kept slithering up til they reached her. The snakes approached June cautiously, and she quickly slid back. She turned to see whether another person was there, but she was alone, thankfully.
There was now no way out, she could die peacefully without anyone trying to harm her. The only way she could scream was by singing.
"You're headed for Heaven." She sang, continuing to scoot back as the snakes continued to slither towards her. "The sweet old hereafter. And I ve got one foot in the door. But before I can fly up, I've loose ends to tie up right here."
She hesitated, snakes now creeping up her arms and legs. She returned to singing, her gaze fixed on the snake gliding near upon her clothing.
"I'll be along when I've finished my song. When I've shut down the band. Played out my hand. Paid all my debts. Have no regrets right here. In the old therebefore.
"I'll catch you up when I've emptied my cup. When I've worn out my friends. When I've burned out both ends."
"When I've cried all my tears. When I've conquered my fears right here. In the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore. I'll bring the news when I've danced off my shoes."
"When my body's closed down. When my boat's run aground. When I've tallied the score. And I'm flat on the floor right here. In the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore."
She paused, staring directly at the camera while snakes kept slithering over on her. "When I'm pure like a dove. When I've learned how to love. Right here, in the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore."
Juniper stopped singing, she kept eye contact with the camera. The snakes stopped before her face, her breaths were heavy and there wasn't much space for her.
"Miss Wildsong. Congratulations, you have won the hunger games." A voice spoke on the loud speakers.
And June didn't smile or cheer, she just kept staring at the camera. Hoping that all the pain and suffering would be gone.
