Chapter 5: You Reap What You Woe

NO ONE'S POV:

(We see Principal Weems addressing the students and some of their parents about what happened to Eugene.)

Weems: Nevermore was created as a safe haven for our children to learn and grow, no matter who or what they are.

Crowd: [claps]

Weems: I realize most of you have heard about the unfortunate incident involving one of our students. But I'm happy to report that Eugene is on the mend and is expected to make a full recovery. So let's focus on the positive and make this Parent's weekend our very best yet.

(Pan down to Y/N, Enid, & Wednesday.)

Wednesday: On the mend? Try in a coma.

(Y/N): Way better than the alternative.

Enid: Have either of you been to see him? You're his friends.

Wednesday: I'm the reason he's in the hospital.

(Y/N): I should've been there.

Enid: So you could end up like him or worse? It's neither of your faults, okay?

Enid: The monster hasn't attacked anyone in the past week. Maybe you finally scared it off.

Wednesday: Or maybe it went into hiding to avoid this weekend.

(Wednesday & Y/N look over to see their family walk in.)

Wednesday: I knew I should've worn my plague mask.

(Y/N): Tell me how you really feel.

Enid: Would you look at my family?

Enid: Talk about toxic pack mentality. I give my mom 30 seconds before her judge-y claws come out.

(Y/N): I can't believe I haven't ran into one of your brothers. I suppose I should introduce myself to your family.

Enid: Really?! Are you sure? I did just say that my mom is seriously judge-y.

(Y/N): I will admit that I am hesitant to do so and it does seem painful. But I have been wanting to improve my pain threshold.

Enid: What about your family?

(Y/N): I have the entire weekend. And I'm sure Wednesday will feel them in.

Wednesday: I will?

Enid: Okay. Let's get this over with.

(Y/N goes with Enid as Wednesday goes to meet their parents.)

Gomez: There she is. Oh, how we missed those accusing eyes and youthful sneer.

Morticia: How are you, my little rain cloud? Where is your brother?

Wednesday: I thought Thing was filling you in on my every move. I uncovered your feeble subterfuge almost immediately.

Gomez: So, how's the little fella doing? Does he still have all his fingers?

Wednesday: Relax. I haven't snapped any of his digits. Yet.

Morticia: So tell us everything.

Wednesday: Since you've abandoned me here, I've been hunted, haunted...and the target of an attempted murder. Also, (Y/N) is introducing himself to his girlfriend's family.

Gomez: Ah, Nevermore. I love you so.

(Cut to Enid walking up to her family with Y/N a few steps behind her.)

Enid's Mom: Enid. Oh, let me look at you.

Enid: One-one-thousand, two-one-thousand...

Enid's Mom: Have you not been waxing?

Enid: Three seconds. That's a personal best.

(Her mom sniffs her.)

Enid's Mom: Are you feeling well? You're looking a touch anemic. Have you been eating enough red meat?

Enid: It's good to see you too, Mom. And you, Dad.

(Her dad smiles.)

Enid: There's someone I'd like you to meet. This is (Y/N) Addams. My boyfriend.

Enid's Mom: Boyfriend?

(He walks up to her.)

(Y/N): It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Sinclair. And you, Mr. Sinclair.

(Before he can offer her a handshake, she sniffs him.)

Enid's Mom: You're a werewolf.

(Y/N): Yes, ma'am.

(She looks him over from head to toe before turning to face her daughter.)

Enid's Mom: He's quite the looker, Enid.

Enid: Mom...

(Y/N's thoughts): Not so painful after all.

Enid's Mom: I'm surprised you were able to land him considering your condition. He does know, doesn't he?

Enid: Mom!

(Y/N's thoughts): There's the pain.

(Cut to Dr. Kinbott's office where the Addams family is in for a family session.)

(Imagine Y/N next to Morticia.)

Dr. Kinbott: So, who wants to start? Maybe we can discuss what it's like having Wednesday away from home?

Pugsley: I mean, for me...it's been weird not having Wednesday and (Y/N) around. I never thought I'd miss being waterboarded and waking up to dead animals so much.

Dr. Kinbott: Have you seen any improvement in your sister's behavior, (Y/N)?

(Y/N): In terms of a percentage? About 5%.

Wednesday: That's too high.

Dr. Kinbott: Morticia, Gomez. How have you been coping?

Morticia: It's been torture for us too.

Gomez: Fortunately, my brother Fester's rack fits two people.

Morticia: Nothing like a good stretch to bring out the best in each other.

Gomez: Querida mía.

(He rapidly kisses her hand.)

Dr. Kinbott: Um...

Wednesday: Enough! I think it's high time my parent's faced the music.

(She stands up & faces them.)

Wednesday: It seems they've been lying to me. Keeping secrets. Murderous secrets that need to be addressed.

(She pulls out a crime report with Garrett Gates' picture.)

Wednesday: Who was Garrett Gates, and why are you accused of murdering him?

Pugsley: Whoa.

(Y/N): Talk about ripping off the band-aid.

Morticia: Those charges were dropped. Your father is an innocent man.

Wednesday: Local sheriff doesn't seem convinced.

Morticia: Wednesday, stop. This is neither the time nor the place.

Dr. Kinbott: Actually, this is exactly the place. These sessions are--

Morticia: Doctor. This does not concern you. And I refuse to debate a decades-old witch hunt with you right now.

Dr. Kinbott: I--

Gomez: Darling, maybe we should--

Morticia: No. This session is over.

Wednesday: Have it your way, Mother.

Dr. Kinbott: Wednes...Wednesday?

Wednesday: If you refuse to tell me the truth, I'll just have to excavate it myself.

(They all leave Dr. Kinbott's office.)

Morticia: What were you thinking? How could you ambush your father like that? Wednesday.

Wednesday: How could I? You insisted I go to this school. Did you really think I wouldn't find out your secret?

Morticia: You don't know the full story. Your father did nothing wrong.

Wednesday: I'll be the judge of that.

(They walk away from each other.)

(Y/N): I'm gonna go with her.

Gomez: That would be a good idea, son.

(Cut to Wednesday & Y/N checking up on Eugene. She places some honey in front of him.)

Wednesday: I harvested hive number three. The bees miss you, Eugene. We all do.

(Y/N): The dorm room just isn't the same without you. I got you...

(He places a vase full of flowers on a counter.)

(Y/N): You probably already know this but they're Beebalms. One of a bee's favorite flowers. [clears throat] Flowers were a stupid idea. I should've just brought him honey like you did.

Wednesday: It's not stupid. It's...nice.

(Thing crawls from behind a monitor.)

Wednesday: Thanks for keeping an eye on him. Any updates?

Thing: *shakes no*

Wednesday: He didn't deserve this. I should be in that bed. Why did you go without me?

(A pair of women walk in & get their attention.)

Woman 1: You must be Wednesday.

Woman 2: And (Y/N).

Woman 1: Eugene's moms. Sue and Janet.

Janet: You two were all he could talk about lately. He was so happy you joined the Hummers.

Sue: Eugene hasn't had the easiest time fitting in at Nevermore.

Janet: He was so excited to finally make some real friends.

Wednesday: I brought him some honey.

(Y/N): I brought him flowers.

Sue: Eugene loves those dang bees like they're his kids. His fuzzy-buzzy babies.

(They fittingly leave the room. Cut to the Addams family at the buffet table.)

Morticia: Mmm. I am famished. You're not hungry, darling?

Wednesday: My appetite eludes me, Mother. The same way the truth eludes you.

(She walks to their table.)

Gomez: We need to tell her.

Morticia: She'll never believe us. We must stay strong. And hope something more morbid comes along to distract. I'm more worried about as to why our son hasn't introduced us to his girlfriend.

(She looks across the Quad to see Y/N sitting next to Enid, eating with her family.)

Morticia: We don't even know her name.

Gomez: He will in due time. He just wants to leave a good impression on her family.

(Cut to Y/N eating with the Sinclair pack whilst sitting next to Enid.)

(Y/N): Why do your brothers chew like that?

Enid: You're guess is as good as mine. I've been trying to figure that out for years.

(Imagine Y/N between Enid & her brother.)

Enid's Mom: So are you going to make me ask?

Enid: (Y/N) and I have been together for a week and a half.

(Y/N): *smiles*

Enid's Mom: I'm not talking about your relationship. Have you wolfed out yet?

Enid: No.

Enid's Mom: Well, that is a disappointment.

Enid: That's me. A huge disappointment.

(Y/N holds her hand under the table & rubs the back of her hand with his thumb. Sheriff Gulpin and his deputies walk into the Quad arrest Gomez Addams for the murder of Garrett Gates. Cut to Wednesday & Y/N meeting their father behind glass.)

Gomez: So mi lobo, tell me all about her.

(Y/N): Her name is Enid Sinclair, she's a werewolf like me.

Gomez: That's great!

(Y/N): Yeah...She has short blonde hair but it's dyed blue and pink at the bottom. She's beau--

Wednesday: (Y/N).

(Y/N): Not why we're here. Right.

Gomez: My little tormenta, how's your mother?

Wednesday: Devastated. She hates you in orange. I caught her laying a rose over a grave earlier today. The headstone read "Garrett Gates." The very boy you've been arrested for murdering. Care to explain?

Gomez: Garrett was infatuated with your mother. He mistook her kindness for interest. His infatuation turned into obsession, and he started stalking her.

Wednesday: Why didn't you try calling the police?

Gomez: We tried. But his family were the oldest and richest in Jericho. No one believed us.

(Y/N): Two good silencers.

Gomez: Garrett's father, an outcast-hating bigot, was furious that your mother had accused his only son.

(We're shown how Gomez killed Garrett in an act of self defense.)

Wednesday's thoughts: If I'm being objective, his confession sounds entirely plausible, delivered with the perfect degree of sincerity. Perhaps my father is exactly what he says.

Wednesday: Thank you for being so honest with us.

Wednesday's thoughts: But then there's the matter of his tells. The way he smooths his mustache. The way he delivers a comforting wink. I've been playing Russian roulette with him since I was 12. I know them well.

Gomez: I'm sorry I wasn't a better father.
Wednesday: Could we please do without the overt display of emotion?

Gomez: I know they make you feel uncomfortable.

(Y/N): I've kept mine underwraps.

Wednesday: How many fathers hand their daughters a fencing blade when she's five years old?

Gomez: Your saber strokes were an essay in perfection.

Wednesday: Or teach her how to swim with sharks?

Gomez: They found you as cold-blooded as I do.

Wednesday: The right way to flay a rattlesnake?

Gomez: They really do taste like chicken when prepared properly.

Wednesday: The point I'm trying to make is that you taught me how to be strong and independent. How to navigate myself in a world full of treachery and prejudice. You are the reason why I understand how imperative it is that I never lose sight of myself. So as far as fatherhood goes, I would say you've been more than adequate.

Gomez: Gracias, Wednesday.

(Cut to Y/N outside with the Sinclair pack, sitting next to Enid, & watching her brothers catch frisbees in their mouths.)

Enid's Mom: Why don't you go join them, (Y/N)?

(Y/N): I'm good right here, Mrs. Sinclair. Not that what they're doing doesn't look fun.

Enid's Mom: Staying near your mate. Smart boy. Here. I bought you a gift.

(Enid takes it.)

Enid: That's so sweet. You didn't have to get me anything.

Enid's Mom: I know, but I thought we got off on the wrong foot this weekend. I just want you to know that all I want is the very best for you.

(She opens the envelope to see its brochures for different lycanthrope summer camps.)

Enid: What are these?

Enid's Mom: Brochures. For summer camp.

Enid: These aren't just ordinary summer camps. These are camps for lycanthropy conversion.

Enid's Mom: Oh, no need to be dramatic, Enid.

Enid: You want to send me to conversion therapy for werewolves?

Enid's Mom: It worked wonders for your cousin Lucille, didn't it? Seven weeks in the Balkan countryside and she was howling at the moon in no time. As it should be. Don't you want to wolf out and finally be normal, honey?

(She stands up & storms off.)

(Y/N): Enid?

(He stands up & is about to follow her.)

Enid's Mom: I'd actually like to talk to you, (Y/N).

(He watches Enid get further away.)

(Y/N): Um, okay.

(He sits back down.)

Enid's Mom: You really like our daughter, don't you?

(Y/N): Yes, mam.

Enid's Mom: Then you'd agree with me that sending her to one of these summer camps is best for her.

(Y/N): Not necessarily.

Enid's Mom: Don't you want to howl at the moon together?

(Y/N): That is on the list but to be perfectly honest with you, it doesn't matter to me if she wolfs out or not. Your daughter means that much to me.

(That gets Enid's father's attention.)

Enid's Mom: That's a kind sentiment but will your pack be as accepting?

(Y/N): Most definitely, considering I was adopted. My family doesn't have a judge-y bone in their bodies.

Enid's Mom: You're adopted? That explains a lot.

(Y/N): What's that supposed to mean--I'm gonna go find your daughter before I say something I'm going to regret.

(He stands up & leaves to go find Enid. He eventually finds her completely destroying a tree with her claws.)

(Y/N): Hey, hey!

(He stops her & holds her hands in his.)

(Y/N): You're going to chip a claw if you keep that up and trust me, chipped claws are a bitch.

Enid: [groans] I know that. It's just that...ugh! Your thoughts on my mom?

(Y/N): She's everything you said and more.

Enid: Emphasis on more. Are you sure you should be here? I understand if you want to go back to your family since your dad...you know. And you've done more than your fair share of boyfriend duties.

(Y/N): Nice of you to say all that but Wednesday has assured me that she has everything under control. Also, more importantly, I want to be here. With you.

Enid: And your promise?

(Y/N): Was going to be the next words out of my mouth.

Enid: *smiles*

(She kisses him.)

(Y/N): Now...

(He starts picking little pieces of bark out of her hair.)

(Y/N): Let's get you cleaned up and get back, yeah?

Enid: Totes!

(We see Wednesday confront her mother in the Nightshade library where it's revealed that it was Morticia that killed Garrett not Gomez. He took the blame to protect her. As the conversation continues Wednesday realizes that Garrett was experiencing textbook symptoms of something. Her & Morticia are arrested for digging up Garrett's grave. Once in lockup together, Wednesday reveals that Garrett died of nightshade poisoning, the blue tint on the finger she brought confirms it. Which means that Garrett was dying before he was stabbed. Wednesday has vision when trying to pull her parents off each other. The vision showed how Garrett was going to spike the punch bowl with nightshade & how it got on him. Cut to Wednesday & Morticia confronting the mayor who was Sheriff at the time & covered it up. He comes clean about everything & drops the charges on Gomez. Cut back to Nevermore where Y/N & Enid see her parent's off.)

Enid's Mom: So, it's decided. Six weeks at Camp Howl. Even (Y/N) can join you if his parents let him. You'll need to pick which activity--

Enid: No, I don't. Because I'm not going. Not this summer. Not ever. If I'm meant to wolf out, then I'm going to do it on my own timeline and not yours. I just hope one day, you'll finally be able to accept me for who I am.

(Her mom walks off & her father hugs her.)

Enid's Dad: I'm proud of you, kiddo. You do you.

(He kisses her on the forehead & turns to face Y/N.)

Enid's Dad: Did you mean what you said back there?

(Y/N): Every word.

Enid's Dad: Good. Welcome to the pack.

(He offers his hand for a handshake & Y/N happily accepts it. He leaves.)

(Y/N): That went well, right?

Enid: You can say that again! What was my dad talking about? What did you say?

(Y/N): Just that I'll like you no matter what.

Enid: Even if I never wolf out?

(Y/N): Specifically that.

(She kisses him & then skips away as Y/N goes to find his family. Cut to Wednesday & Y/N saying their goodbyes. Pugsley has just let go of a solid 5 minute hug of Y/N.)

(Y/N): I never get tired of those.

Wednesday: You're lying.

(He hugs his sister.)

Wednesday: Don't push it.

(He lets go as Gomez walks up to them.)

Gomez: Well, at least we can't say Parents' Weekend wasn't a nail-biter.

Wednesday: I knew you didn't have what it takes to be a murderer.

Gomez: As much as that stings, gracias, my little death trap.

(He kisses her cheek.)

Gomez: I enjoyed hearing about your girlfriend, mi lobo. Despite how short it was.

(Y/N): I will bombard you with the rest another time.

(He hugs his son as Morticia walks up to them & she hands Wednesday her old yearbook.)

Morticia: As I leafed through the pages of this yearbook, I was reminded of all the wonderful times I had here. But they were just that. Mine. You have your own path to blaze. I don't want to be a stranger in your life, darling. If you need me for anything, anything at all, I'm only a crystal ball away.

Wednesday: Thank you, Mother.

Morticia: The same goes for you, (Y/N).

(Y/N): I know.

Morticia: I fully expect Enid to be by your side the next Parents' Weekend.

(Y/N): She will be.

(She walks to the car as Wednesday flips through the yearbook & sees something. Cut to them storming into Principal Weems' office.)

Wednesday: I did witness Rowan getting murdered that night and (Y/N) did see your body.

Weems: Excuse me?

Wednesday: When Rowan appeared the next morning, it was you. When you participated in the talent show with my mother, not only did you impersonate Judy Garland.

Wednesday: You became her.

(Y/N): Holy crap.

Wednesday: You're a shape-shifter.

Weems: That's a fascinating theory.

Wednesday: I'm curious to find out how Sheriff Galpin feels when we tell him.

(She leans over her desk.)

Weems: You won't tell a soul, Miss and Mister Addams. And it wouldn't matter much if you did. Rowan's father already knows what happened, and he fully supports my decision not to involve the authorities.

Wednesday: Why would he agree to that?

Weems: Because Rowan was not in his right mind. His telekinetic abilities were driving him mad and he attempted to murder you twice. His tragic death allowed us to rectify the situation without casting the school or Rowan in an unflattering light.

(Y/N): A lot less paperwork for a runaway student instead of a dead one.

Weems: What are you insinuating?

Wednesday: Perhaps I can be more clear. You and Mayor Walker are the same, aren't you? Burying bodies to cover your dirty secrets.

Weems: I did what I needed to shield this school from controversy and protect its students from harm.

(Y/N): How can you say that with a straight face?

Wednesday: Tell that to Eugene. How are you protecting him?

(There's a commotion outside that draws the three to Weems' balcony where they see...)
