"Thank you ladies and gentlemen. If you have any more questions you can send them to my work email. I will respond if luck favours you"
With that the iconic dark sunglasses found their way back on their owner's nose, reflecting back the camera flashes while its famous wearers dazzled the crowds with his charming smile.
Peter Parker sighed watching the happenings partly in awe of his mentor's flawless handling of the press and another part of him feeling bad, watching the famous camera smile on his lips which he knew had no ounce of genuineness.
He fiddled with the expensive looking cufflinks adorning the sleeves of his shirt layered underneath a luxurious coat. He could only be glad of the inconspicuous bench he had managed to find decently hidden from immediate view some trees and bushes on both sides and most of the people present had their attentions on Mr Stark now to give him any bother.
Ms Potts had been whisked away on sudden notice to Tokyo for some important business negotiations compelling her fiancé to attend her share of the series of Stark Industries meetings and events, and Aunt May being called away to her ailing cousin's place, topped by his school being closed down for a couple of days for emergency repair and renovations works, further convenienced his mentor to pull him in with himself.
"Underoos you won't make me endure this boredom alone, will you?"
Peter smiled to himself recalling the older man's dramatics to convince him to tag along. He would have any day jumped at the opportunity of spending a day with Mr Stark, an entire week that could extend to more seemed like dream but having to sit through boring meetings and pretentious fundraiser events or stuffy parties had made him hesitant. But the past year had seen them grow closer and he could never bring himself to say no to the man. Knowingly and unknowingly both of them had carved a place for themselves in each others lives in a manner that held an unexplainable magnitude and irreplaceable quality and drowned each day in warmth and a sense of fulfillment that had been lacking and that which made them look forward to each day with new zeal and energy.
Just some more minutes buddy and then we can head out of here. - Tony Stark
Peter's smile widened at the text as he typed back a hasty reply, looking around if he could spot him anywhere but in vain. He could only see groups of strangers walking around and gossiping. Taking a long breathe he tiredly bent down in his seat, looking aimlessly at the well polished dress shoe that reflected back his face. He had found it an odd choice for an outdoor event at Central Park but since Tony was the main speaker and host, he had to be well dressed and there was no way he would have let Peter come out underdressed either.
He had to admit that shopping and getting measured for suits with his mentor had been enjoyable and also currently the outfit saved them the trouble of having to change for the meet of scientists and researchers they were to attend next. Tony had promised that it would be fun and himself had been looking forward to it and Peter too thus was excited.
He shut his phone deciding it would be wise to save the remaining battery of the phone before he got the opportunity to charge it in the car, choosing to admire the well kept garden. But his solitary musings did not have the fortune of perpetuating as a curious sight soon caught the covert web-swinging hero's attention. Walking in the direction of the bench was a young girl seemingly of his age carrying in her arms a toddler. She was a some steps away and his spider senses could already smell her lavender fragrance mingled with the nice scent of baby powder.
"Are you uncomfortable?"
A soft, melodic voice broke him out of his thoughts and he realized to his embarrassment that he had been staring at her all the while till now.
"Uh...uh...no not at all. I was simply lost in thought I guess..." his voice trailed off towards the end as he awkwardly scratched at the back of his neck, unable to look at her as she was seated next too him now.
"Are you sure?" she continued, "I can look for somewhere else to sit if it is causing you discomfort..."
"No. no not at all" he answered quickly, surprised at how loudly he had spoken the words, "I am sorry...I did not mean to be so loud. I am so sorry."
He watched on as she frantically rocked the toddler gently, muttering sweet nothings into her ears to shush the cries from breaking out and lull her back to sleep.
