"Is it okay if I see him now?" Mia asked fidgeting.

"Of course, he should be conscious by now just please do not say anything that would make him tense" the doctor warned and she nodded understanding what he meant.

She walked into the room and found a nurse with an injection about to insert it into Jeffery's drip.

"What are you doing?" Mia asked and the nurse flinched turning around to stare at the scary woman.

"N..nothing.I'm just giving him some medicines" she replied swallowing hard. Amateur.

"What kind of medicine?" Mia asked closing in on the nervous nurse.

"Um…to reduce the pain" the burden replied nodding.

"Oh, I see" Mia smiled at the nurse and held out her hand. The nurse stared at her confused but seemed to understand and dropped the syringe in Mia's hand.

"You may leave, I'll give it to him" Mia smiled pointing towards the door.

"B…but you're not even a doctor" the nurse reasoned and Mia laughed.

"Neither are you" Mia replied watching the tense nurse who froze.

"Ah but I'm a nurse" the nurse replied as quickly as possible when she thought of a suitable response.

"We both know you aren't a nurse_____dear" Mia smiled placing her hand on the nurse's shoulder who had attempted to move back.

"If you don't want to go to jail____

Mia grabbed the girl by her collar and pulled her closer.

"Never come back here, or attempt to murder any of the Martinez. Tell whoever sent you that if I find them, I'll kill them. Even if I die trying" Mia warned glaring at the girl who was now a shaking mess.

The nurse stared at the crazy Martinez in fear, before pulling away from her grip and fleeing the room.

"W…what's happening" Jeffery murmured as he returned to consciousness.

"Jeff?" Mia called turning around to find him trying to sit up and rubbing his eyes.

"No…no you must lay down" She refused him sitting up and gently helped him back to a laying position.

"What did the nurse want?" He asked.

He had opened his eyes a few moments ago but only seemed to be fully awake now.

"She had tried to kill you with this" Mia informed holding up the injection.

"And you let her go?" Jeffery asked baffled.

"She seemed like she was forced, her actions were amateurish and careless" Mia waved off.

"I need to give this to the doctor and find out the type of drug this is" she informed watching the liquid in the little plastic bottle as it rolled around.

"Alright," Jeffery replied.

"I can't, I can't leave you alone, especially after what just happened" Mia replied not wanting to entertain the thought.

"I thought you were the target?" Jeffery asked confused.

"Apparently we are all targets" Mia shrugged.

The doctor walked in a few minutes later and she narrated everything to him.

"This is clearly a police case, We'll do what we can but cannot stop the police from getting involved" the doctor informed and Mia nodded in agreement.

"I'll take this to the lab, so they can test it" he informed waving the syringe before leaving the room.

"How are you feeling?" She asked coming to sit beside him.

"I'm alright, I won't go down just after one shot to the shoulder" Jeffery rolled his eyes at how much Mia undermined him.

"Jeff, it was a sniper and you could have been hit elsewhere" she retorted.

"Even so, don't worry. Don't you have work?" He asked but she didn't respond. Why were they all concerned with her measly job?

"You should leave, go get some rest, I know how important this job is to you" Jeffery muttered. 

"Not as important as you, I can't leave you here all by yourself. Cathy is coming early in the morning, so I can leave after that" Moa argued smiling.

"I won't be here for long, I assure you I'm fine if I stay here another two days I'll die from lack of workouts" he sighed and she chuckled, never understanding how he could be so committed to his workouts.

"So, where were the assassins caught?" Jeffery asked.

"Yes, we couldn't let them run off. They shot you" she informed and a nurse walked in.

"I'm sorry ma'am, I just wanted to find out if you needed anything" the beautiful nurse said keeping her eyes on the ground.

"No, I don't, do you need anything, Jeff?" Mia asked turning to her brother to find his eyes glued on the nurse.

"Jeffery?" Mia called again, snapping he fingers in his face.

"Just some iced tea" he finally replied smiling at the nervous nurse who nodded before walking out.

Mia smirked at Jeffery knowingly.

"What is it?" Jeffery asked watching his sister's weird smile.

"You were checking the nurse out" Mia teased with a smirk.

"What! _____no" he replied looking elsewhere.

"You can't lie to me, I can see it in your eyes" Mia teased further.

"Well she's pretty and I've always liked women who took care of others" he murmured scratching his neck and not meeting Mia's eyes.

"Aww" she laughed and  Jeffery rolled his eyes before laughing.

Not long after, the nurse came in with the cup of ife tea.

She walked quietly and handed the cup over to Mia.

"I didn't request for it" Mia reminded and the nurse nodded nervously still looking down, She walked over to Jeffery who sat up.

He was shirtless with only a bandage wrapped around his arm and chest, revealing his bulging muscles.

She gently raised the cup to hand over to him, her hands trembling as she brought it towards him, the cup looked like it was going to fall.

Jeffery grabbed her hand and took the cup.

"Are you okay?" He asked staring worriedly at the nervous nurse.

"Yes sir" she replied still looking down.

She pulled the strand of her hair in her face behind her ear while Mia keenly watched her.

Classic textbook move.

The nurse turned around and was about to leave.

"May I know your name?" Mia asked.

"It's Carmen ma'am" The nurse replied.

"Nice to meet you Carmen" Mia replied and the nurse looked up for the first time and smiled before leaving.

The doctor came in next.

"The blood test results just came in, you don't have the same blood type" The doctor sighed.

"That's okay, his sister is coming tomorrow maybe check hers" Mia suggested and the doctor nodded.

"Also, the substance is dangerous, it paralyses the person and leads to a slow and painful death" The doctor informed and Mia stared in shock.

She needed to find out the main gut behind all of this.

"Mia, someone wants to wipe us all out" Jeffrey whispered.

"Yeah, I know_______but who?"

Mia stayed awake all night while Jeffery slept.

She was alerted by the knock on the door and clutched the gun by her side.

"Come in" she replied and the door slowly opened to reveal_______ Catherine.

"Cathy?" Mia called going to hug her.

"How's Jeff?" She asked.

"He is good, he's getting better but the doctor said he lost a lot of blood and____

"Yeah I know, I met him before coming here, he said my blood was compatible" Catherine informed and Mia sighed relieved.

"You can go home and rest, you've been here all night" Catherine reminded.

"Alright, I'll go home" Mia surrendered causing Catherine to chuckle.

She grabbed her bag and walked out of the room. She was going down the hall when she spotted nurse Carmen with a coffee cup in hand.

"Carmen?" She called causing the nurse to turn around.

"Yes ma'am" she replied dropping her cup and rushing over to Mia.

"You know you don't have to address me so formally" Mia raised an eyebrow.

"I'm sorry ma'am but I do" she replied and Mia sighed.

"No you don't, I'm Mia, you can call me Mia" Mia replied staring at the nurse.

"But ma'am, _______ you're a Martinez" Carmen murmured and Mia sighed loudly.

"That's the problem, forget my last name. I thought we could be friends" Mia tilted her head to the side.

"Well, I don't know if you'll be willing to be friends with a common nurse like me" Carmen said shyly looking away.

"You're doing a respectable job, Carmen, I'm a bartender, I wipe counters" Mia laughed and Carmen stiffened hers.

"Let it out girl, we're both human beings no reason we can't be friends" Mia slapped her arm.

"I guess you're right" Carmen smiled.

"Now, where did you get your coffee, I'm starving" Mia asked.

"I'll show you" Carmen replied walking down the hall Moa followed suit.

They ended up in a room, in front of a coffee maker

"This is my office, feel free" Carmen said going to brew coffee for Mia.

"You have your own office, I thought this was some kind of general hospital?" Mia asked.

"It's not, we don't just charge as much as private hospitals" Carmen replied and Mia nodded.

She handed Mia the cup of coffee and continued sipping from hers.

"So what do you think of my brother?" Mia asked out of the blue and Carmen sprayed the coffee in her mouth and coughed. Mia quickly rushed to hand her a tissue box that was sitting on the desk.

"You're brother? _____I don't know what you mean" Carmen replied nervously playing with a loose thread of her dress.

"Come on, you can tell me" Mia said walking up to her.
