Chapter 1
Sans found himself in a rocky, cave-like area dimly lit by blue light. An ominous shadow stood in its center, shrieking in pain. He approached slowly, and lay his hand on its shoulder to try and comfort it. "Stay away..." It growled with a distorted voice. "You'll get hurt...". He felt sudden sadness grip him like an icy claw, a feeling that he didn't think he could feel for someone he never knew. His vison was growing blurry from tears, and as he closed his eyes to let them fall, he opened them to see the familiar surroundings of his bedroom around him. He pushed his growing curiosity about his dream to the back of his mind, and shied away from the thought that this might be a foreshadowing of what's to come.
Stretching, Sans turned the doorknob, opened the door, and drowsily walked down the stairs. "BROTHER!! I HAVE GOOD NEWS TO SHARE WITH YOU!!" Said Papyrus cheerfully. "I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS," He started, puffing his chest and putting a gloved hand on it. "HAVE MADE A NEW PASTA CREATION!!" He finished, as he took a tray of spaghetti covered in frosting and sprinkles. "I CALL IT... SWEET-GHETTI!"
"looks good, bro." He replied lazily. "OH, ONE MORE THING." He went on. "I WILL BE STAYING WITH UNDYNE FOR TWO DAYS!"
"'k, bro. have fun." He responded, sitting down to eat the "sweet-ghetti."
"BROTHER!!" Papyrus called, stopping outside Sans' station. "SINCE I WILL BE AT UNDYNE'S, TAKING OVERNIGHT TRAINING SESSIONS, YOU WILL HAVE TO PATROL FOR HUMANS ON YOUR OWN. REMEMBER, WHEN YOU SEE ONE, GIVE THEM THE PUZZLES I MADE...". At this point, Sans had already zoned out, his brother's words sounded far-away and quiet. i'll go to grillby's later... He thought to himself. "... AND THEN YOU SHOULD... FIGHT... SANS?!" Papyrus said, realizing that his brother was paying no attention at all. "SANS, ARE YOU LISTENING??". "whazzat?" He said, shaking the drowsiness out of his head. "i was listening, pap. i'll be fine.". He replied. Papyrus then left, shaking his head.
Sans sat in his station, tilting a bottle of ketchup over to drink. A few drops fell out, and it then became empty. He squeezed it tight, but he already drank every last drop. He shrugged, putting the empty bottle along with the other bottles of condiments. Once he realized that all of the ketchup bottles were empty, he got up, and made his way to Grillby's to get some more. It was almost his break-time anyway. As he walked the old path, the snow crunched under his pink slippers. Before he knew it, he could see the shape of Snowdin Town getting closer and closer. Just then, he spotted something in the corner of his eye-socket. He turned his head to see a shocking sight. A human girl was leaning on the trees, face buried in her hands, sobbing. He walked towards it, and got down on one knee to get eye-level with her. A few seconds later, she looked up. He could just see her eyes, which were red from tears. They suddenly grew wide with shock and fear, and she desperately flailed her arms at him. He blocked a hand that almost slipped into his eye-socket, and returned it to her side. He was about to help her get up, but suddenly, her body went limp. Getting slightly panicked, he picked her up and resumed walking to Snowdin.
Sans stood in front of the door to their garage, which Papyrus had dubbed the 'capture room'. He hesitantly reached for the doorknob, but stopped. He looked down at the unconscious human in his arms, feeling pity for it. She was so scared... He then made his decision. He turned the other way, and walked to he and Papyrus' home.
