We Will Make It Out.
Jin looked down at his phone to see Namjoon had already called him for the third time within the last hour.
"Now what?" Jin answered.
"Hyung how long am I supposed to cook the chicken for?" Namjoon asked.
Jin sighed and gave him directions before hanging up. He turned to Yoongi, "They're a mess." The oldest chuckled.
Jin and Yoongi were currently staying at a hotel for a gaming convention they had been excited to attend. They had the chance to meet game creators and ask questions at panel conferences.
They'd only been gone for three days so far but it was evident how badly their dongsaengs missed them. One of the younger members was constantly calling them to ask questions or simply say they missed them. The two oldest tried not to worry but they had been hesitant to leave the younger ones alone. Yoongi told them not to even attempt cooking and order out, but they hadn't listened. Hobi had called Yoongi the day before to let him know Taehyung already broke the toaster, and somehow Jungkook broke the microwave.
Although they were having a lot of fun, they also couldn't wait to get home and get the house back in order. They also greatly missed their dongsaengs.
"So what's on the schedule for today?" Jin asked Yoongi. The rapper had a paper with a list of todays events.
"It seems we only have one more panel at 7 tonight, so we have some free time," Yoongi replied.
"That gives us three hours," Jin smiled, "Want to walk around the city or stay in?"
"Honestly, I'd much rather stay in."
Jin let out a sigh of relief, "I was hoping you'd say that." The both of them chuckled and decided to spend the rest of their day relaxing in their hotel room and battling eachother in some video games.
Yoongi got a call from Jungkook. The maknae started complaining into the phone about Taehyung and then the two could be heard bickering with eachother in the background.
"Aish...what am I supposed to do? I'm not even home! Have Hobi mediate!" Yoongi complained. Jungkook said okay and hung up.
The two got back to playing and Yoongi's phone went off.
"Now what do they need?!" Jin screamed lightheartedly. He knew his dongsaengs were quite co-dependent, but damn.
Yoongi laughed, "That's my alarm, hyung. It's time to head to the panel."
Jin nodded, "Right, right."
The two headed for the elevator. They were able to book the very top floor of the hotel for privacy reasons, which was 17 stories up. So it was just the two of them. They got in and Yoongi pressed the button for the ground floor. The two started having random conversation when the elevator came to an abrupt stop at floor 11. The two grabbed a hold of eachother as the elevator jerked and they stumbled a bit.
"What the hell was that?" Jin asked with concern. Yoongi started hitting random buttons, "I have no idea. This isn't even the correct floor."
Jin glared at Yoongi, "Yes, I can see that."
A loud, ear piercing alarm started going off within the elevator. They both covered their ears.
"Now what the hell is that?!" Jin screamed. The two looked up and realized the fire alarm at the top was blinking and going off.
"A fire alarm?! Oh thats just great!" Yoongi screamed still covering his ears, "I can't even hear myself think!"
Jin started banging on the 'Open Door' button but it wasn't working and the elevator wouldn't move. The two started banging on the walls of the doors with their fists, "Hello?! Help! We're stuck in here!!" Jin screamed.
They continued this for a good 10 minutes with no luck. Yoongi asked Jin if he thought some asshole pulled the fire alarm and Jin said he had no idea.
The loud alarm finally stopped but the light on the alarm kept blinking. The two took the opportunity to try screaming and hitting the doors again but they still had no luck.
This is when they both started to get anxious.
"Uh! Hyung how long are we going to be trapped in here?!" Yoongi complained.
"How should I know?! I'm sure once they get the alarm settled, they'll turn the elevator back on or something."
They had already tried calling for help but their cell phones had absolutely zero service and were on the verge of dying.
They started to hear fire truck sirens in the distance.
"Oh? I'm assuming they're coming to the hotel?" Yoongi asked his hyung, "You don't think there's an actual fire here do you?"
Jin shrugged, "I doubt it. I think it's just protocol that they show up. Just to be safe."
Jin suddenly saw the flush of anxiety on Yoongi's face. He knew Yoongi didn't like to openly express his feelings when it came to certain things, especially when it came to admitting he was scared. Yet, after living together for so long Jin didn't need words from Yoongi to understand how he was feeling anymore. He gently squeezed Yoongi's shoulder, "Hey, it'll be fine. We'll be rescued in no time."
"Yeah." Was all Yoongi said in response. He took a deep breath and tried to swallow the lump of anxiety forming in his throat.
Jin was nervous too, he knew it was a scary situation but his form of reassurance was to firstly make sure his dongsaeng was okay, and secondly, outwardly express that they'd be fine. He had to make himself believe that. He always found that one of the hardest parts of being the oldest of the group was having to act like the brave one when one of the others was scared.
"Well, no point in standing," Jin chuckled and took a seat against the wall. Yoongi came over and sat down next to him.
The two sat silently for a bit while they continued to hear more sirens blaring outside. Jin wondered why so many fire trucks and sirens were needed for a simple false alarm. They weren't too sure how much time had passed as their phones had since died, but Yoongi suddenly shot up straight, "Hyung! Maybe it's just me going crazy but please tell me you don't also smell smoke?"
Jin inhaled deeply and stared at Yoongi with horror, "..Oh no."
The two instantly shot to their feet in a panic and started screaming and banging on the doors again, "Help! Someone help us! Help! We're trapped!" They both continued to scream but nobody had come to save them.
"There's probably nobody even left in this damn building except us!" Jin yelled as he punched the door.
Yoongi stepped backwards, "It's actually on fire....we're going to die..."
Jin angrily turned back towards Yoongi, "Don't say that! Don't you ever say anything like that! We are not going to die!"
Jin's words went in one ear and out the other for the rapper. He stood in place frozen with fear just staring straight at his hyung. He could feel himself start to sweat. Was it just because of the anxiety, or was the fire already starting to burn him up? He didn't know. The sirens outside were drowned out by the rhythmic thud of his own pulse splashing inside his ears. He felt like his chest was going to explode. He fought back tears as he repeated, "We're...we're going to die.."
Jin took a step closer, "Did you not just hear me?! I said don't talk like that!" Jin stared at his dongsaeng and realized he seemed to be in some kind of panicked trance. He was just staring at nothing. Jin walked over and shook him a bit and his dongsaeng finally looked at him, "Hyung I don't want to die...not like this.." Yoongi couldn't hold back the tears anymore. He let them fall.
Jin's heart shattered. Out of all the years he'd known Yoongi, he'd only seen him cry once. That was because they won an award, not because he was scared. Seeing Yoongi so scared made him realize his own fear he'd been trying so hard to suppress. He didn't want to die either, and definitely not like this.
Jin grabbed Yoongi and pulled him into a tight hug, the younger buried his face into his hyungs neck and started to sob. Jin started to cry too as he rubbed Yoongi's back. "We will make it out," he cooed.
Yoongi backed away and looked at his hyung with anger. "Oh yeah?! How?! Do you have some kind of special plan to get us out of here?!" Yoongi gestured to his surroundings, "Because if so feel free to show me now! We've been in here long enough!"
The shattered pieces of Jin's heart started slicing away at the inside of his chest. He understood that Yoongi's anger was really stemming from his panic, but his words still hurt. He felt his own anger boil up.
"I don't know! I'm sure they'll put the fire out soon enough! People will be looking for us! How can you really stand here and say that we'll die like this, huh?! You really think our destiny is to die in a fire in some shitty elevator?!" Jin screamed.
"Freak accidents happen all the time!" Yoongi screamed back through his tears, "It's called being in the wrong place at the wrong time, hyung! And guess what?! Here we are!"
"We have five more dongsaengs at home who need us, Yoongi! The universe isn't going to take us yet! Not here, and not like this! We have people we still need to take care of!" The thought of his five little brothers still at home made his chest hurt even more. He wondered, if they were to die, how on earth his baby brothers would survive on their own. They couldn't even survive on their own while the two were away on a small trip. He felt nauseous just thinking about them being left behind.
Yoongi didn't respond. Instead he dropped back to the floor and leaned against the wall. He curled his knees up and hid his face in them to cry. Jin stood and watched as Yoongi's shoulders heaved up and down. Guilt ate away at him for yelling. He went and sat beside Yoongi and grabbed the youngers cheeks in his hands, turning his face to make eye contact, "Hey. Hyung is sorry for yelling. I'm scared too, okay? We're both just scared. But listen, we have to stay positive, yeah? I love you, Yoong-ssi."
"I'll miss them if I die," Yoongi sniffled.
"Yoongi, please.." Jin sighed back.
"Okay, I'm sorry. I'll stop talking like that." Yoongi wiped some tears with his shirt sleeve. He didn't want Jin upset with him, especially not in a situation like this. He wanted to believe they'd be okay he just didn't see a way out. They were literally trapped. He realized his body was starting to feel more hot and he was starting to sweat more. He looked at Jin and realized he was quite sweaty now too. Yoongi knew that only meant one thing.
"Hyung ..the fire..it's getting closer," Yoongi pouted.
"I know," Jin replied. He was very aware of how hot it was getting. What he wouldn't do for just the smallest drop of water. He leaned against Yoongi and sighed. Someone please, hurry.
They sat in silence with the only sound still being sirens outside.
"Hyung?" Yoongi whispered. His body was starting to not feel well. Not only was he drenched in sweat from being in what felt like a furnace at this point but he was suddenly feeling extremely tired.
"Hmm?" Jin groaned. He was feeling just as terrible.
"Remember when Hobi and Jungkook got in that fight over the banana?"
Jin chuckled, "Yeah. Yeah I do."
Yoongi proceeded to bring up happy and heartfelt memories of their lives with their dongsaengs. They laughed together for a while until the sadness took over and it fell silent again.
"Jin?" Yoongi started. Jin didn't say anything, just turned and looked at him.
"I love you," Yoongi said. Jin smiled. It wasn't often Yoongi said that to anyone either. He always expressed it in other small ways. Before Jin could say anything, Yoongi kept going. "I mean that, hyung. I'm sorry I don't say it enough. I appreciate everything you've ever done for me. Seriously, everything. For all of us."
Jin smiled softly, "I love you too, Yoongs."
Smoke started seeping into the elevator and they both panicked. Yoongi couldn't help but tell himself this was it. They were dying. Jin grabbed him and pulled him into his chest to hold him. They both started sobbing.
Jin felt Yoongi tense up in his arms and he started to cough uncontrollably. The rapper looked him in the eyes with absolute terror, "I-I c-can't breathe."
Jin started patting his back. He was terrified for his dongsaeng but realized he was starting to cough too. He couldn't breathe well either. Yoongi started to cough even more uncontrollably and hyperventilate while trying to suck in air. "Hey hey, okay, just..try to take slow deep breaths okay?" Jin asked.
"I can't," Yoongi started gagging from the smoke. He felt like he was suffocating. His eyes couldn't stop producing tears as he clawed at his own chest and throat. They burned. All he was inhaling was smoke. Jin started screaming for help again while coughing too. Yoongi gripped tightly to the front of Jin's shirt and stared at him. "I love you, hyung," was the last thing he said before passing out onto the floor.
"No!" Jin screamed as he tried shaking Yoongi, "Wake up! You have to wake up! Pl.." Jin was coughing too much. He got his breath back and kept shaking Yoongi, "Please!" Jin cried. He checked Yoongi's pulse and honestly couldn't tell if he had one or not. He started doing CPR regardless and began pumping the rappers chest. Jin's endless streams of tears were hot. "Please...breathe.." Jin gave him some rescue breaths but would have to stop to cough. Jin didn't have much oxygen in his own lungs but anything he had left to give he would give to his dongsaeng.
He started pumping Yoongi's chest again, "I need you! I can't do this without you! And I don't just mean get out of here, I mean anything! I can't do anything without you Yoongi! I can't.... I can't do anything without-" Jin fell into another coughing fit. His chest and throat were burning too. He felt dizzy and realized how disoriented he had become. He leaned over and kissed Yoongi's forehead before passing out and crashing to the floor.
—
Jin woke up to something gently tapping his face. He slowly opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was Jungkook's giant eyeballs right in his face staring at him. Jin flinched. It had startled him. What the hell?
"Hyungie!" Jungkook screamed and pulled him into a hug.
"He's awake!" He heard Taehyung yell. Jin was a bit dazed but realized he was laying in a hospital bed. He saw a paper airplane laying next to his head. He realized that's what had woken him up. He was instantly surrounded by all of his members.
Except Yoongi.
Oh my God, Yoongi.
Jin immediately started crying, "I'm so sorry..." he cried while still in Jungkook's embrace. "Yoongi...he..I..." Jin figured his dongsaeng didn't make it.
"Yoongi hyung?" Jungkook smiled and moved out of the way. Jin looked over and there he was. Sitting up in a hospital bed on the other side of the room folding pieces of paper into paper airplanes. He threw another one at Jin, "About time you woke up, you lazy nerd," Yoongi chuckled.
Jin started sobbing tears of joy. Yoongi looked completely unharmed. He didn't have any bruises, burns, nothing. He was hooked up to an IV for dehydration but that was it.
"You've been out for almost 6 days hyung. We were so worried," Yoongi told him.
"How did you...how...just...how?! You were practically dead!" Jin shouted. He was in utter disbelief. "As in you weren't even breathing! And how did I..how did we get out?" Jin asked.
Namjoon informed Jin that Yoongi had woken up three days ago. When firefighters found both of them in the elevator, Yoongi was breathing. However Jin wasn't. CPR quickly saved him. They informed him that they had become worried when neither of them were answering their calls. Then the members saw on the news that the exact hotel their hyungs had been staying at had burst into flames due to an accidental explosion in the kitchen. The members immediately rushed to the scene and panicked when they couldn't find their hyungs anywhere. They told firefighters that they must be trapped inside. Taehyung had handed a firefighter his cell phone and told them to go in using his location app, because although the oldests phones were dead, the app would still work. Taehyung's phone led the firefighter right to the elevator shaft. They were able to find the two and get them out.
"Our hearts broke seeing you two being carried out lifeless," Hobi told them, "We haven't left your sides since."
Yoongi had gotten out of his bed and wheeled his IV with him to go sit on Jin's bed with the others. Jin pulled him into a hug and the rest of the members joined in, all of them starting to cry and talking about how scared they were. Jin realized he felt pretty okay too. He didn't seem to have any signs of burns either. His lungs still stung a bit but he was on a medicine drip for that. Jin and Yoongi started telling the members about their experience in the elevator. They sat and listened in awe.
"You want to hear the craziest part?" Jin smiled. The members nodded in unison. "Yoongi said he loves me."
"Aish!" Yoongi gave Jin a playful slap on the shoulder as he felt his cheeks turn red. He was hoping to take that one to his grave. The members ran around the room screaming and laughing before regathering in Jin's hospital bed. They talked more and the members went on and on about how lucky they were to not have lost their two hyungies.
"I mean we were already a mess before..could you imagine if..you know..." Hobi started.
"Yes, we know." Yoongi chuckled. "Have you guys been eating well?" Yoongi wondered.
Jungkook informed them that they'd been eating takeout ever since Namjoon ruined the chicken.
"You mean the chicken you specifically called me for to ask how to make?!" Jin laughed. Namjoon nodded while laughing. Yoongi turned to Jin, "Good thing we didn't die. I already know the first thing we have to do when we get home."
Jin and Yoongi started laughing. They didn't need words to communicate.
The first thing they needed to do when they got home,
Was make dinner.
{The End}
