Untitled Part 7
I don't own destiny.
He stopped by her room once more before he had left the tower and she had fallen asleep clutching the pillow she had been holding on to when he had left to talk with Petra. He sat on the bed and ran his fingers though her hair. Her eyes cracked open and she just stared at him from the darkness of her room. She reached up and put her hand over the one that was running its fingers through her hair. "Why did you say you loved me?" she whispered and he was slightly caught off guard by the question.
"Well... I'd like to think I don't have a choice in the matter." he said and she leaned up to look him in the eyes. She was angry with the situation. Not angry with him per se, but definitely his choice of saying it when he did. That was for sure. "When did you..." "I always have... I've sat back and watched you deal with him for years and I just can't do it anymore..." he said and she clutched the pillow tighter to her chest once more.
"We can talk more about this later... but now I have an assignment to go on. Petra is waiting..." he said and she nodded silently. He turned and started to slip off the bed and she wrapped her arms around him from behind. "I'm so sorry I never knew how you felt... I just thought you were playing with me." she whispered and he chuckled. "At first... I was... but not for a few years now." he said and she squeezed him tighter before she let him go. "Come back to me..." she whispered and he nodded once more. "Of course. I always do." he said as he slipped out of the bed and made his way down to the docking bay.
When he got there Petra was waiting for him. He did a little dance at her and she laughed lightly only to shake her head at his antics. "I figured you would enjoy getting out of the tower for a while." she said as they boarded her ship and took off. "Well, yeah. Where to first?" he asked and she pulled up the location on her holotable. "We have already captured four of them, we just have three left. But one won't go down without someone beating her at a race so I'm sending you on that one. I'm going after Pyrhha and then we will meet up and go after the final one together." she said and he nodded.
"A race you say... where at?" he asked and she frowned as she pulled up the rugged valley on the map. "Well... that sucks." he grumbled and she nodded. They hovered over the rugged valley not long after and he looked out to see Yaviks sitting on her pike atop the scrap. He transmatted down to her and she gave him a once over. "I was expecting Marcus ren but you will do." she said and she waved for him to follow her to the start of the valley, which wasn't a valley in the slightest.
It was a death trap of meteors and scrap from collisions of ships. "You might die, but I will win." she said and he scoffed at her. "You have such little faith in me." he said and she let out a wretched laugh. "Much haughty talk from someone who has never made the run." she said and he shrugged. "I'm a daredevil, what can I say." he said as he summoned his sparrow and readied himself.
On her count of three they took off. She was ahead by a little bit but he wasn't going to let that get him down. He drove up one chunk of rubble and launched himself over her and ahead. It was treacherous and asteroids were flying at him from every angle, but he knew he could make it if he kept a cool head. He kept ahead for a few good minutes, but she was catching up rather swiftly. He lost sight of her for a moment and she was ahead of him and had started shooting the rubble in front of him.
He dodged the rubble and almost lost his handle on his sparrow, but he regained control and ran up onto a piece of rubble and sent it flying her way as she sped onwards. Her cheating tactics made him happy he and Petra had set a trap up ahead prior to meeting her out there. Cheating wasn't in his game plan but it did seem to be in hers. "That's not fair." he called and her wicked laughter just echoed back at him.
"No one said I was going to play fair." she said and he nodded, this was true no one said they had to play fair. He gunned the sparrow and did a flip right over her head, giving her a finger gun as he went over. He shot ahead and jumped from rubble chunk to rubble chunk without hesitation. The area where the trap lay was coming up and he dodged to the other side of the asteroid field to hop atop one of the smaller asteroids.
She seemed to noticed something was off and she jerked her pike to the side, hitting a smaller asteroid in the process. A chunk of her front left side went flying off and her engine started smoking. He was tempted to look back and see if she was ok, but an explosion was heard and she went flying past him once more. She had sacrificed one of her engines to give her a boost it seemed.
He cursed softly and dodged a few asteroids left in her wake, only to run up a flat rock and gun it to shoot ahead of her once more. She laughed once more and dodged around him like it was no issue at all. He struggled to catch up after they came across a flat patch of rocks. He adjusted himself and was side by side with her knowing full well the both of them were about to end their race at the last rock.
He pulled his hand cannon and solar energy engulfed him he looked over to her pike and contemplated shooting out the other engine but he thought against it as they were neck and neck and so close to the makeshift finish line. He pulled ahead of her and shot out the engine of his sparrow, causing it to blow and send him flying over the finish line before her. He rolled to his feet and looked at her with amusement in his features.
She was cursing at him in eliksni and this only made him more amused. "A deal is a deal lady, come on." he said and she cursed at him once more but he aimed his golden gun at her once more. The orange light casting a deadly glow on her features. "It's alive or dead, they didn't say which I had to bring you back as." he said and she cursed at him once more as she stepped off the pike. "One day you'll regret this." she said and he shrugged.
"That day isn't today, now, is it?" he asked and she chattered angrily at him before she was transported up into the prison ship along with Pyrhha. He sighed as he teleported up into the ship as well and Petra was putting restraints on the large fallen female. She spit in his direction but he ignored her and looked to the silver bell that he pulled out of his pocket. He wanted to give this to Ashura but she had already made the circumstances clear.
He looked over to Petra and she sat beside him and patted him on the shoulder. "Good work. We just have one more and then we will be finished." she said and he nodded. He gripped the bell in his palm tightly, only to place it back into his pocket. He looked out to the sky and sighed as the lights and colors flew past them at breakneck speeds. "I want to make it back to her." he said and Petra nodded.
"This last one... you can't ever tell her about." he said and she looked at him oddly. "Why?" she asked and he stood once more and crossed his arms over his chest as he made his way closer to the window. "It's Fikrul... the fallen she helped out and befriended." he said and Petra frowned. He knew she hadn't known this, but he had. He had known who it was the moment he saw the picture.
"Do you know what happened to him?" he asked and she shook her head. "All I know he was killed and revived by some kind of darkness. I know Ashura didn't do it but I have a feeling I know who did. He knew about Fikrul and probably went to see him." he said and her eyes widened a fraction. "You think Uldren did this?" she asked and ominous fallen laughter echoed behind them, telling them everything they needed to know. Uldren was still alive, but he was getting fallen together for something and what that was they had no idea. He sighed and stared out the window once more, hoping to see the reef coming into sight soon.
He sighed as the reef was finally coming into view and the prison of elders was within sight. He wanted to get rid of these two as soon as he could. He didn't want to have to deal with them any longer than he had to. He watched them as they were transmatted down into the prison of elders and he was right behind them as they walked them to their cryopods. Once more he heard the same threat that he would regret this and he decided that he should heed that warning, if only slightly.
He turned his back to them and looked at all the other large fallen that had been captured. The last cell was massive and he knew it was for Fikrul. He turned to Petra and sighed as she watched him carefully. "DO you think there's anything to worry about with the last one?" she asked and he shook his head. "No, he should come willingly. Especially seeing as though all his friends have been captured already." He said and she nodded once more.
They made their way back to the ship and he looked over to see she was still staring at him oddly. "What Petra?" he asked and she sighed as she followed him aboard the ship once more. "Cayde, you seem hesitant to track this one down. Why is that?" she asked and he shrugged. "I just don't want Ashura to hurt anymore. I know eventually we will have to seek out Uldren as well, seeing as he is behind this. But I just don't want her to be in the middle of this mess once more." He said and she seemed to contemplate something for a moment before she spoke.
"You truly love her don't you?" she asked and he was silent as he sat down in the front of the ship beside her. He didn't want to talk about this with her, but there seemed to be no escaping it. "Yes... I always have even if I didn't realize it at first. I just thought I wanted to be her friend but after she came to me when Kira died, I realized I was falling in love with her." he said and she nodded. She seemed to be taking it well considering that meant he was getting in the way of Ashura and Uldren.
"Uldren was never like this you know. He was never one to want to wage war on the tower, he just disliked guardians before he met her. I don't understand why he is doing this to us." She sighed and he shook his head. "Something is wrong with him and I don't know what it is, but I saw the darkness in his eyes when she had brought him back to the tower." He said and she nodded as they took off once more. He sat there the entire trip with his thoughts racing.
What was going to happen when they got back to the tower and he had to face Ashura after capturing FIkrul? Was he going to spill his guts or was he going to keep it a secret from her and hide it like Zavala would. He didn't want to lie to her and have her be surprised that he is alive after she cried over his loss. He didn't know what he was going to do but he knew he was going to be there to comfort her no matter what. He looked and saw that earth was coming into view and he sighed as they hovered over the area that he had last been sighted.
He knew it wouldn't be long before he made his presence known because he wasn't hard to find being as he was so large. He dropped down to the surface and sure enough FIkrul made his presence known. "Hey big guy. Long time no see." He said and Fikrul leaned down to look at him for a moment before picking him up and holding him carefully in his grasp. "Cayde." Fikrul wheezed and his whole demeanor changed with the sound of his voice. It was more raspy like he were struggling to breathe.
"I'm going to need you to come with me big guy. I promise it wont hurt." He said and Fikrul sighed as he set him down. "Can I see mother before I go?" he asked and Cayde shook his head. "I'm sorry big guy, but I don't think she needs the stress of knowing what you've been doing in her name. You can understand, can't you?" Cayde asked and Fikrul chattered angrily for a moment but then seemed to calm down. "I wish to see mother. But... I will see her another day? Yes?" he asked and Cayde patted his hand.
"Yeah, you'll get to see her again I promise." He said and Fikrul chattered happily before stepping under Petra's prison barge and allowing himself to be pulled aboard. He hopped aboard himself and made his way to the room where he was being kept. "You understand where you're going don't you?" he asked and Fikrul nodded. "You'll be right with all of your friends where you can't hurt anyone anymore ok? But I promise Ashura will be able to see you." He said and Fikrul chattered happily once more as he allowed Petra to put the shackles on him.
"Only targeted tower... because guardian tried to kill me." He said and Cayde nodded. "I know... and I'm sorry for that big guy." He said and Fikrul watched him intently. "I assure you the guardians who did it have been severely punished." He said and Fikrul wheezed out an unamused laugh. "Death only suitable." He said and Cayde sighed as he waggled a finger at the large fallen. "This is why you are in trouble now man, come on." He said and Fikrul just huffed as he leaned against the wall.
"I will call Ashura if you promise to be quiet and not talk to her." he said and Fikrul looked his way expectantly. "I will not talk." he said and Cayde began typing on his gauntlet to call her. "Yes?" she asked the moment he heard her voice Fikrul chattered happily in the background. "You doing alright?" he asked and she nodded and sighed. "Yeah, just getting sick more, but I will be fine." she said and Fikrul listened intently
"How are you? Did you finish your mission?" she asked and he nodded. "Yeah, I did, I will be home early in the morning. You want me to bring you anything to eat?" he asked and she was silent for a moment before she smiled at the camera and nodded once more. "I would love something to eat. I haven't been able to keep anything down today. Little one has been fighting me every step of the way." she said and he chuckled as he watched her readjust on the bed to talk to him better.
"I've missed you this week." she said and he chuckled. He hadn't been expecting that from her. "Wow, I didn't think you would miss me so much already." he said and she rolled her eyes at him. "I'm so used to having you around at every given moment even before so it is saddening to not have you to talk to." she said and he shrugged. "Are you sure it's not something else?" he joked and she crossed her arms over her chest. "Don't push your luck." she said and he chuckled.
"I miss you more than life." he said and she looked away from the camera and to her hands where she was fiddling with her fingers. "How's Misra?" he asked and the exo poked her head into the line of sight of the camera. "Still on prego guard duty, as promised." She said and he nodded only to look over and see that they were pulling into the reef once more. "Ashura, I have to go now." he said and she nodded.
"See you in the morning." she said and he felt giddy. He couldn't wait to see her once more. He wanted to tell her all about his ride with Yaviks and about how big all the fallen were. She would enjoy hearing about the larger fallen they had found. He looked over to Fikrul who was waiting for them to lead him wherever he was going. "You care for mother." he said and Cayde nodded. "Very much so." he said and Fikrul chattered to himself for a moment.
"Be wary of father finding out."
:-:-:-:
It had been months of utter bliss for him. He and Ashura had gotten closer to the point where he was sitting in her room on a daily basis and helping her with anything she needed. He looked over to her and sighed in content. She was sleeping curled up into his side. He reached over and brushed the hair out of her face and planted a small kiss on her forehead. He hadn't meant to wake her up but he had and her silver eyes were staring right into him.
"You woke me up just in time... I have to go talk with the vanguard." she said and he nodded and helped her get out of the bed. He followed behind her all the way to the vanguard room where he lingered back and listened to them just discuss everything. He watched her every movement and was in awe at the way she held herself. Like a true leader she brushed every negative thing they had to say off her back and continued to discuss the happenings on the planets.
Pessimism didn't bother her in the slightest today and he was proud of her. After an hour of discussing they finally took a break. He watched her as she left the room only to stop and turn towards him. "Cayde come with me." She called and the Exo took off after her, giving the vanguard no time to react. "What's up?" he asked and she just smiled at him. She wove her fingers in between his and he watched her curiously.
"Are you alright Ashura?" He asked and She nodded with a smile. "I just wanted to thank you..." She whispered and he narrowed his eyes at her. "Why?" He asked accusingly and she couldn't help the laugh that escaped her. "For helping me... for being here to support me every step of the way..." She said softly and He released her hand as she made her way over to the balcony to look down at the city.
"I wish, more often than not, that Uldren had been here with me... Helping me through this..." She whispered and he stepped towards her despite how the comment hurt him. She looked over at him with saddened eyes and he placed a hand on her shoulder. "You have been here for me from the start and I never actually got the chance to thank you." She said and he tilted his head at her. "Ashura, of course I would help you through this... You are my beloved student. I would give anything in this world to be here with you right now. That's how friends are..." He muttered and she shook her head.
"No... not the pregnancy... I mean everything. I want to thank you. For seeing potential in me when everyone else looked down on me. I want to thank you for trying to be my friend even though I went through a horrible self destructive phase. I want to thank you for never giving up on me, even though you disapproved of Uldren." She whispered and he shrugged. "It's only who I am. Ashura... I saw the potential in you that Andal Brask saw in me. And when you gave me that cloak... my best friend was avenged. Yeah, I was pissed that I couldn't help... but... to have a loyal student that would risk everything to do it for me... I am honored." He said and grabbed her hand gently.
"Thank you." He said and she smiled at him. "So, are you still hopelessly in love with me?" She asked and he looked down at her in amusement. "Oh, love... I would still electrify your circuits any day." He purred at her and she laughed. He ruffled her hair lovingly as he turned away from her. "I'll always love you, you little shit." He said and she tucked herself under his arm gently. "Even if you never love me back in the same way, I will always love you."
Ashura looked up at him and smiled sadly. "Is it because I remind you so much of Ivara?" She asked and he scratched his head gently. "As much as I would like to think of it in that manner... I do not think that it is completely that. Yeah, you are damn near an exact replica of her... But... You are also different. She was in no way the little rage monkey you are." He laughed and Ashura rolled her eyes. "But... You treat me like I'm no different than you are... You laugh at my jokes; you make me feel... Human." He said and she nodded.
"Does no one else make you feel that way?" she asked and he shook his head. "I... I am losing my memories... Every reboot I go through, I lose more. I have blank spots and I don't know if I will ever remember everything. Ivara helps me keep track of things." He sighed and she looked down towards the city once more. "I never knew, Cayde... I'm sorry." She said and he laughed lightly. "Don't stress it. As long as I don't go through another reboot, I promise I will never forget you. I know that's really what you're worried about." He joked lightly and she nudged him with her elbow.
"You are annoying you know that?" She grumbled and if he could have grinned at her, he would have. "See, that's a human trait. I told you; you treat me like I'm human." he said and she rolled her eyes once more. He knew he got on her nerves but he also knew she cared about him. He looked her over and sighed. Every day was ebbing ever closer to the day she was due to have little Noah and he couldn't wait. He was going to do everything he could to help her.
That was why when a few months later as they were walking through the tower he panicked when she realized her water had broken. He scooped her up despite her swatting him and telling him she could walk there herself. He set her on the gurney and let them know what was happening Sakura had come back just to help her give birth so the pinkette was standing there with gloves on at the ready.
"How do you feel Ashura?" she asked and Ashura began laying into him instead of answering her question. Ah yes, typical her. "You should have let me walk." She growled and he chuckled deeply as she scowled at him. He planted a kiss on her forehead and she grumbled something under her breath. He ruffled her hair and began listening to the two of them discuss her pregnancy and how long she had been having the contractions.
"To be honest I didn't know what it was I just knew it was annoying." she grumbled and he laughed at this. She scowled at him once more but it was just too funny because Ivara had said the exact same thing with Ace. He knew she had been having the contractions, he just thought they were the Braxton Hicks ones like Ivara had for days before she had Ace. He watched her as she cringed once more and he offered her a hand, which she took and gently squeezed it.
He sat with her for hours just holding her hand as she went through this. He knew this was painful for her but he wanted to be her moral support no matter what. She looked over at him with tears in her eyes and he felt for her. She was scared and there was nothing he could do to relieve her fear this time. He brushed the fingers of his free hand through her sweat matted locks and sighed as she tensed up once more.
They offered her pain meds but she refused multiple times, such as is her stubborn nature. "This is nothing." she said, but he had to disagree with her. "It's for your comfort." he said softly and she scowled at him and shook her head. "No." she bit out and winced as yet another contraction hit her. She had been having this argument for hours now and yet she still showed no sign of budging in the slightest.
He had to admire her determination, but he also knew she was being stubborn for not wanting to be able to relax. Such was her titan nature, he supposed. Stubborn and unyielding. He stood and slowly pulled her to her feet, allowing her to walk around the room some. "Thank you for being here." she whispered and he chuckled once more. "Can't have my midget going through this alone." he said and she smiled at him through her discomfort.
After another hour of pacing back and forth she stopped and made her way back to the bed, but he slipped in the bed behind her and wrapped his arms around her. "Cayde?" she called softly and he hugged her gently from behind as he got situated. Sakura came in to check on her and she smiled at the two of them. "Good that will help her." she said seeing him behind her on the bed. "What do you mean?" Ashura asked and Sakura smiled at her once more.
"It's time for you to push, he can help you hold your ground as you push instead of you running up the back of the bed." Sakura mused and Ashura furrowed her brow. "I'm here to help you, just relax and lean into me." he said and she seemed to adjust to do just that. He felt an odd feeling rise in his chest and he intwined their hands together as she started to push. He kept her grounded and whispered sweet nothings in her ear as she sobbed and tried to keep pushing.
He could tell she was getting tired, but he urged her just a little more and it'll be over. "Just a little more." he whispered and she cried out and began sobbing louder. "I can't..." she pleaded but he pressed himself against her back and pulled their hands up to beside her head. "Now push, but try and pull your hands away from mine." he said and she nodded through her tears. She struggled with all her might to pull her hands back down but he wouldn't let her. She cried out once more and she relaxed against him as soft cries echoed around the now silent room.
He released her hands and they fell to her sides as she tried to regain her composure. She was crying once more, but not because she was in pain... she was crying because she was looking directly into the golden eyes of her son. She brushed over his tiny cheeks with her fingertips and he wrapped his arms around the both of them. he buried his face in her neck as she sobbed. He knew she was crying because of everything she was feeling.
He knew she was struggling with the fact her son had his father's facial markings. He knew she was struggling with the fact Uldren wasn't there. He wanted nothing more than to ease her mind. He knew he would never be number one for her, but he was going to be there for her because he was invested. He wanted nothing more than to see her smile. He wanted to be there for her no matter what. And that was what he was doing.
"He's beautiful." he said and she clutched the now silent newborn closer to her chest as a wail escaped her. Hinata came in and took the tiny baby away from her and explained what she was going to be doing. Weight, height, the usual stuff you do with a newborn. Sakura began explaining that they weren't quite done yet and Ashura stopped crying out loud, but she was biting her lip and holding back sobs as she listened to what Sakura had to say.
He felt for her and her pain. Pregnancy was an emotional time for any woman, much more so for those with other things going on. He understood this and wanted to be there to support her while she was down. He had seen first-hand what postpartum depression could do to a woman and he didn't want Ashura to have to suffer through it alone if she ended up being depressed. There was always a chance but the chances were always higher when a woman is going through emotional turmoil.
When Sakura was finished Hinata brought the now sleeping baby back into the room in a bassinet. Ashura had stopped crying all together and had fallen asleep in his embrace. When she woke hours later, she turned in his embrace and looked him in the eyes for a moment before she placed her hands on his cheeks and placed a kiss on his mouth. He felt his receptors heat up and she smiled softly as the steam made itself known once more. He cursed himself for getting embarrassed once more, but if it made her smile, it was worth it.
He sighed as she adjusted in his embrace once more to sit in front of him on her knees. He could tell she was so tired, but she was determined to do something. What that something was he had no idea. She was just watching him and he couldn't help but feel uncomfortable under her gaze. He couldn't quite place why she made him uncomfortable in this moment, but it was perhaps the way she was just staring at him and not saying anything.
His gaze drifted down a little and he noticed her gown was starting to come undone on the shoulders. He reached up and buttoned the button back. She tilted her head and just continued to stare at him for a moment before she shoved him to the side of the bed and curled into his side. She mumbled something into his chest that sounded like a thank you before she drifted back off to sleep. Embarrassment filled his being when he realized she was trying to lay back down.
She wasn't just staring at him like a maniac, she was waiting for him to scoot over without being rude and saying something. God he was an idiot sometimes. Beady little gold eyes were watching him and he reached over and lifted the tiny infant out of his bassinet. Ashura snuggled in closer to him and he laid there with both of them held tightly in his embrace. He couldn't help but stare at the two of them. They were both beautiful in his eyes.
He always did love babies and this one bore a striking resemblance to his mother and that amazed him. The months went by and he watched that tiny human grow into a strong little squirt. He was crawling around like there was no tomorrow. As the months had passed he had woken up in her bed every single day. They still hadn't established that they were in a relationship of any sort, but they were together all the time. Everyone assumed they were together but he knew Ashura was still hung up on Uldren and that killed him inside every single day. It was cruel and unusual to be with someone every moment of every day and yet not have their love. Sure, she loved him in her own way, but he still didn't have her heart no matter what the two of them had been through together this past year.
If he were one to give in, he would have already. But he wasn't one to give up. He was one to keep fighting until there was nothing left to fight for. And she was worth fighting for in his eyes. He watched as she pulled her hair up into a crown of braids like the Norse women would wear and he couldn't help the attraction he felt for the feral woman. Some face paint and she would be a feral beauty. Her long silvery hair with the large braids that trailed down her back as well as the smaller braids scattered about.it just did something for him that he never knew he could feel that way for.
She took some eyeliner and began tracing those beautiful sharp silver eyes of hers, defining them even more than they already were. He couldn't help but find her attractive. She was a feral woman inside and out and dammit he liked that. He watched as she made her way over to him and brushed her fingers over her child's cheek gently. "Ashura... if you wake him I will hurt you." he said and she gave him a daring look that he found equally as attractive. There 3was just something about her that triggered these feelings in him and he never wanted it to end.
However, soon enough it would all end once more. His shoulders slumped and the lights of his eyes dimmed as he listened in on the conversation happening right outside their apartment door. He knew Ashura had held such reservations about her weight gain, but that didn't matter to him, he loved her no matter what. What did matter was what else he had overheard. "And if uldren can't love you for who you are now, he never loved you to begin with."
The bastard had come back after being missing for a year and five months.
The rage that boiled up inside him startled him. He had never been so angry before but there was something about the man returning now that set him off. Not that he would show it. On the outside he was calm and collected, he was his normal self. But inside he wanted nothing more than to beat the daylights out of the man. His thoughts were interrupted by Ashura rushing in and grabbing the tiny bundle of a human and taking off running.
His shoulders slumped once more and he buried his face in his hands as he sighed deeply. All the things she had told him over the last few months were running through his head. He didn't know how he was going to wake up without her in his bed curled up next to him. He didn't want to leave her room, but he knew he had to. All he thought about was her, all the time. Her beautiful face and her enticing laughter. The way she would curl up in his side and whisper things to him as they had gone to sleep.
The time she had kissed him... this was all flooding his mind as he threw back the blanket and made the dreaded walk to the vanguard room, where he knew they were going to be. When his slow footsteps finally stopped and he reached the room, his whole posture must have been screaming his sadness because when Shaxx saw him he gripped his shoulder gently and nodded to him as he held Noah in the other arm.
He looked over to see Ashura and Uldren in the middle of the floor in one another's embrace. His soul ached upon seeing how easily she fell back into his arms. He was tempted to go get all of his things from her place but he couldn't find the will to move. "So where is Cayde? I have to thank him for what he has done for me." Uldren said and he felt the urge to wretch. He hadn't done anything for him, it was all for her and would always be for her.
"Don't thank me for anything. Feel free to take your troublesome wife back." he said and masked his pain with false amusement. Which earned him a hurt look from Ashura. He hadn't meant to hurt her, but he wasn't going to keep her away from Uldren if she wanted to be with him still. He wasn't going to make her choose between them because he already knew she would choose Uldren over him.
He was startled when that sadness and confusion turned to rage and she snatched her baby from his father and tried to take off. He didn't understand why him letting her go to him had enraged her so much. "Give me Noah if you two need to talk." he said and she handed him Noah gently. He could see the hurt in her eyes and he wondered why it was directed at him. They walked away, but not matter how far they walked they could still hear the arguing.
He listened as she screamed at uldren about how he felt like he could come back like he had never left and he understood. Uldren had come back and tried to pick up where they had left off like he hadn't told her to forget about him like he was going to die. Like he wasn't going to come back. Cayde wished the man had never come back but he understood why he did. Sometimes love is a stronger force than darkness.
When Ashura came back she gave him a look and sighed. "I didn't want you to leave." she whispered and he tilted his head in confusion. "He's back now... there's no place for me." he said and her eyes went wide as she snapped her head to look back at him. "You thought I was going to abandon you for him after he's been gone for so long?" she asked and he nodded. "And before you try and fight me on this... just know I know you still love him. I just want you to be happy, and if it happens to be that you're happier with him... so be it." He said and she bit her lip and watched him as he turned and walked away with her son in tow.
She would understand soon enough, because he already did.
He was never going to be enough for her while Uldren still lived.
