"Oh Sir Douglas, thank you for saving my life from that heinous plot from the other ladies."
"Lady Candia, no, my future wife, I would move heaven and hell to make your light shine as bright as the sun."
Those were the last words that every player went through to see the true ending of "White Chocolate Memories." After all the trials and tribulations that the player, who controlled Candia, had been through, this was the most satisfying feeling in the world.
However, throughout each bad ending, there was the villainess Rubena.
The woman was a jealous gossip who didn't take too lightly a commoner born taking over the social world and making connections. Especially since everything that happened to her was given in part due to her relationship with Douglas. Being that they were engaged at the beginning of the story, it was no surprise that he would abhor her every being. No matter how hard she tried to gain his affection, he was disgusted and frankly uncaring for her emotional begging.
When he found Candia, he threw her away like a discarded tissue.
Rubena felt betrayed by this. All those years of pining and plotting down the drain cause he would rather bring up a commoner into the social circles to cause change and make a statement. For all she knew, he was using the poor girl as a publicity stunt.
No matter the route, Rubena ended up perishing by his hand, banished from high society, or thrown in prison to rot forever.
As she watched from afar in the true ending of a carriage taking her to the border, she saw the two embrace with pure love and happiness. She closed her eyes sadly and turned away from the sickly sweet couple.
"Just once...I want to vanish from this world and never again face such sadness!" Rubena pounded on the window as tears streaked down her face. "Why must I suffer for her success? This world is imperfect and rigged against me! I want my retribution!"
As she uttered her words of pure sadness, a flash of white enveloped her very being. Her eyes widened as she screamed in shock as the world around her faded away.

Rubena opened her eyes to find herself in a white void. She turned around every which way to see nothing before something appeared before her. A table filled with sweets and a teapot that steamed itself. A saucer of cream, a bowl of sugar, and two spoons were laid in front of her. A golden chair popped up behind her, sliding her close to the table.
"Congrats on another successful death, my dear! Here's to another death and another happy ending for our couple!"
A figure appeared at the other end of the table, a young lad wearing knee socks, shorts, suspenders, and a top hat. His eyes were multicolored, his pink hair glowing, and heart symbols on his face pulsing. He snapped, the teacup floating near him as he put way too many lumps of sugar into an ever-flowing cup and took a sip.
"Who are you? Where are we? What do you mean by successful death?" A confused Rubena asked as she stared at the young boy.
"My name is GameMaster, the program in charge of every villainess game! My job is to ensure the villainess dies and the main couples have a happy ending. No matter what happens, I make sure that the player lead gets to every route happily."
He gestured to the makeshift screen that he conjured, showing Rubena the various ways she had died in every route. Expelled from the academy, burned at the stake, put in another country to starve to death, and even drowned in a lake. All done by Douglas Steel in an attempt to make sure his beloved Candia got married to him. Her hands shook as she clenched them so hard that they bled.
"As for you, my dear, I hoped that in meeting me you learn that your only role in life is to" GameMaster ducked as a teacup smashed against his chair. "Well, that was very rude missy! I own your code, I can easily wipe you out of the game!"
"Then do it."
"Huh? What was that?"
Rubena, now red in the face, glared at him with contempt. "Kill me properly. I would rather a world where I never existed than to die a thousand deaths. Put me out of my misery and let me never suffer another fate again!"
GameMaster was stunned by this. Usually, the villains would be begging and pleading to go back and change their fates once they learned the truth of their existence! This code was new, she didn't want to go back and face her many deaths. She didn't want redemption or anything of the sort. He stared into her eyes, the eyes of a woman driven insane by the truth and the pain of heartbreak. For she had suffered many deaths at the hands of the one she loved.
Just like every other cookie-cutter villainess.
"You know if I do this, the story never happens. Douglas never meets Candia, they never fall in love, and you cease to make conflict occur." He brought up the code for the game before the table, showing the red ribbon that represented Rubena. "You'll never grasp Douglas for yourself, you'll never eat at that little corner bakery, or even attend your school's ball. All those nights of studying to become a wonderful bride, a grand scholar, and a worthy successor for the Armando family. All of that will be gone since you were an only child."
Rubena stared at the red ribbon that was her lifeline. She thought of her parents, and how sweet they were. They raised her to be a perfect daughter, giving her the life they grew for themselves and her. She lived in a house full of love and splendor, but it was all a mask to hide her true inner darkness. Her mother was a drinker, her father pilfered the wages of their servants, and her uncle tried to molest her. Douglas was her only way out of a life of masked wickedness. They grew up together, lived a life of glamour, and promised to be in love for all life. Candia could've been a great friend if she wasn't so stuck up under Douglas. She never wanted to hurt her even if she was a bit mean to her. Every movement, every action, everything that she did was taken in another light.
If she never existed, maybe the pain would all go away. The heartache, the backstabbing, the nights crying to sleep after a bottle shattered or a servant not feeding her. Hateful words whispered behind her back, tea poured on her head, and torn dresses by wrathful women. Candia may have been a sweetheart, but she was no saint.
Rubena touched her lifeline delicately, a weary smile on her face. "Please...end this miserable life."
"The story of "White Chocolate Memories" will never be the same with the little devil duchess gone. However, as the GameMaster, I must listen to the creation's will. There will be others who would love another chance. If this is what you want..."
GameMaster cut the thread, severing her life for good. Rubena's eyes closed as she felt herself slowly fade away from existence. Her red data particles scattered amongst the white void like blood staining a cloth. The young lad sighed, putting the game back in place without the villainess in the story.
"Oh well, the show must go on. However, how much will have changed due to her not being alive?"
He brought up the screen and started up the game again.

"How tragic. Did you hear that Duke Armando was captured by the king's soldiers today? Counterfeit jewels, not paying his servants, and even abusing his wife."
"I heard when he got arrested, they confiscated all his possessions. His wife drank herself to death too!"
"So the once powerful Armando family is no more huh? No heir, the duke's brother was thrown in prison, and the wife is dead. Such a tragedy. Guess the king has only the Steel family to lean back on."
Candia listened to the gossip coming out of the mouths of the nobles she waited on their tables. Working at a small cafe in the local city, she had to do her best to keep them all happy and fed. She glared as she went to wash the dishes in the back. If she had her chance, she would be in the lap of luxury by now! She couldn't even scam them or steal their jewels to sell off for profit! All she needed was a chance to prove to someone that she could be just like them!
Her eyes glanced at the figure walking through the door which made the ladies swoon. Douglas Steel, eligible bachelor, now trusted hand to the king, and a handsome man to boot. It was almost too easy!
She walked over to his table, tea ready to serve. All he had to do was take one look at her, fall madly in love, and then she was home free! Her foot slipped "accidentally" as she went flying forward and spilled hot tea all over him. He jumped out of his chair, pain on his face and anger in his eyes as he stared down at her. Candia put on her sweetest, saddest face as she gasped fakely.
"I'm sorry about that sir! I'm such a clumsy fool!" She said, picking up the broken shards of china. "Allow me to help you cool off and dry up."
"Guards, arrest this woman who dared to make me filthy."
Guards?
Candia's eyes widened as she was suddenly yanked up from the ground by two very large men. She shook in fear as Douglas wiped off his suit with ease. The other nobles in the cafe gasped and laughed at her. How dare they do such a thing when she was the one who was supposed to be laughing!
"I-I-I don't understand...I only spilled some tea!" Her voice got madder by the second. "Does that seriously warrant an arrest? Do you just arrest any commoner that irritates you so?"
"I arrest those who have been charged with theft and many nobles who've left this establishment poisoned by tainted food. I assume you were the ones who baked those muffins that caused an outbreak of boils to spread on every young lady in the kingdom?"
"My sweets are never tainted! I baked those goods to make everyone feel good and happy!"
Douglas tossed her tainted muffin to the ground. "Suspicious that these same muffins ended up on my plate. Were you hoping to swindle me out of my money and have me too weak to stop you? Pathetic. The court will be seeing you for this. Take her away."
Without a villainess to shift the blame on, Candia was sent to prison to rot for the rest of her days. Her schemes against the nobles of the kingdom made them more alert to never trust sweet faces with dastardly deeds. Douglas Steel went on to become a detective for the kingdom, sniffing out the crimes of both the upper and lower classes. Without any distractions in his life, he found a new passion for forensics and crime fighting. The main couple would never be in this timeline.

GameMaster stared at the screen, eyebrow raised at what went down. So without Rubena, crime dropped, Candia flopped, and the entire Armando family fell. Quite tragic in a way...
Then again, as he grasped the controller to destroy that world, life moved on. Without a villainess, there is no game and it wasn't worth seeing such a terrible route. It was boring really, but that just meant the next game would be just as sweet.
Behind him, however, a single red orb floated silently, watching and observing until the time was right to strike.
