"Brianna, please stop with your endless endeavor of pursuing my fiancé. It is getting quite annoying."
Throughout her time as a reincarnated villainess, Faith was doing all she could to keep her appearance and not make a fuss. The old heiress of the original story was known to fly off the handle if things didn't go her way. The original tale had her become so ill-tempered and shrewd that her fiancé, Prince Michael, left her for the main female lead, her little sister Brianna. However, unbeknownst to the rest of the world, Brianna had been slipping pills into her sister's food for years which made her moody and vile. To usurp her status as the heiress, take the prince as her own, and finally gain approval from their stuffy father. The old story ended with Faith being locked away to rot in a dungeon while her little sister got everything that was rightfully hers.
This would not work out in the next reincarnation though.
Since Faith kept all her previous memories, she knew about her cruel sister's plot from the beginning. Her maid, Rosemine, served both her and Brianna but favored her sister. Conspiring with Brianna meant that in the original timeline, she ascended to duchess status due to her poisoning her. However, Faith knew better than to ever eat anything Rosemine brought in and secretly told her servant Divi to slip her food when they weren't looking. Being her younger self also meant that her reputation wasn't ruined yet, so if she didn't eat the pills, she would keep her calm and cool demeanor.
When Prince Michael finally entered the picture, it was Faith that was catching his eye instead of Brianna this time. Her little sister kept her cute face, but inside Faith knew she was seething. Faith smiled to herself as she spoke with clear diction and took an interest in the prince's activities to have some commonality, unlike her previous self that worshipped him. Brianna even tried to humiliate her by attempting to trip her as she got from the table, but her quick movements allowed the blond-haired beauty to smack her face against the edge of the table. This would knock her unconscious and allow her more time with the prince.
This was the start of their rivalry. Brianna had no idea how much Faith knew her every move and wasn't even intimidated by her threats and lies. Their father had summoned them into his office to praise the elder, and berate the younger for acting so callous. Brianna found herself outsmarted in every attempt at Faith's life by either Faith, Prince Michael, or Divi being a loyal servant. In the span of a few years, Faith was almost killed by hired thugs, pushed down the grand staircase, and even abandoned in the woods after one hunting trip. Throughout the years, she had grown in stature, and power, and was one of the most influential people in the kingdom.
There was just one nagging little detail that she had to get rid of.
This brings them to today in which Faith invited her sister to a tea party in the densest part of the garden. She had Divi bring out the nice teapot and had her make some rose tea. Little cakes baked by her were placed on a tray and decorated with rose petals. Faith even dressed in a nice red dress that complimented her figure and exemplified her mature look. Her hands were covered by protective, dainty gloves. She did not need makeup as the prince stated she looked better without. Their relationship had grown since the prince realized that she wasn't some ditzy damsel unlike her sister and could hold a conversation. She asked him to train her in combat to fend off her sister's killers.
Brianna entered the garden wearing a tacky pink dress, her blonde hair done up in curls, and her face covered with light makeup. Rosemine was left at the entrance of the garden. Her little sister had accepted a cup of tea while Faith decided to cut to the chase with her quickly.
Brianna, of course, decided to feign innocence. "What are you talking about sister? I don't have the notion of taking the prince from you. Are you perhaps jealous of me in some way?"
Faith narrowed her eyes, briskly stirring her tea. "I do not care for you nor do I see you as someone who could hold a candle to me. You are callous, headstrong, stubborn, and on top of that, not very bright. Your every attempt of murdering me has been laughable at best."
"Sister, are you saying that all those unfortunate accidents were my fault?" There go those tears that once had been her downfall. "Faith, I love you with all my being and this is how you repay my kindness!"
Faith leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms and glaring at her. "I'm giving you one last warning Brianna. Either stop this charade and accept the fact that you have to be married off to even regain the reputation you once had or face the consequences."
There was silence in the garden, only the sound of chirping birds was heard Arianna, with tears still in her eyes, gave her sister a cruel smile before taking another sip of tea.
"How long have you known this then? I thought this was all fishy when you were showing no signs of insanity after ingesting those pills. I don't think you ever took them at all." The blonde girl slammed down the teacup, a wild look in her eyes. "For years, YEARS, I tried to get rid of you and take your place. I was more qualified for the inheritance! You are just some skank's child that weaseled her way to the family fortune just because you have father's blood coursing through your veins!"
"Uh huh...." Faith rolled her eyes. Always with the parentage in any timeline. Just because her father decided to bed some random woman, who just happened to be her mother, during a business trip meant that Brianna's mother hated her guts. When Brianna was born, she wasn't the eldest of the family due to Faith's mother dropping her off to her father before passing away. By default, she got the inheritance while Brianna got squat.
"You took everything that was meant to be mine! The money, the power, the handsome prince, I'm sick of it!" Brianna crushed one of her tea cakes in her hands and grinned madly. "However, this can all be resolved if you renounce your heritage to your beloved prince and turn all the shares over to me. I won't even attempt to kill you if you just leave now. Seeing as we were raised together, I may have grown soft towards you. Just leave the family and I won't even harm you once."
Lies...
"You know Brianna, I don't even pity you enough to even consider taking that offer." Faith pushed her teacup away and stared right into her supposed sister's eyes. "So I'm not even upset about what's about to happen to you."
Brianna gave her a confused look before hunching over and coughing violently. Blood spewed out of her mouth as she fell to the ground. The once pretty girl screamed in shock as she drew back her hand to see her blood. Staring at Faith, she tried to form words, but more blood gushed out her mouth.
"Funny thing about Fireblood Roses..." Faith spoke aloud, pouring her tea out on the ground. "If touched, it sends a potent poison that causes skin irritation. If ingested into the human body though..." She paused, watching Brianna choke out more blood. "It causes a terrible condition that makes the person who consumes it die in a revolting bloody mess."
"Y-Y-You-!" Brianna tried cursing, swearing, or even screaming, but more blood came out.
"I warned you one too many times not to mess with me." Faith stood over her sister with an evil grin. "You never listen to anyone nor would you have made a great ruler. I'm doing a mercy kill so that you won't have the luxury of a quick death. Don't worry about father, I informed him that you were going out of town today. This gives me a week to get rid of the body. Rosemine...well she won't be speaking much either since those delicious tea cakes were laced with the petals of the rose."
Rustling was heard, startling Faith mid-speech as Brianna gazed up hoping that someone would save her. Lo and behold, Prince Michael appeared in the garden with an equally shocked look on her face. Brianna assumed that he was there to save her and arrest her sister, so she slowly crawled her way toward him.
"Y-Y-Your highness! S-S-Save me or s-s-she'll k-k-kill me!" Brianna pleaded, activating her tears, this time is real.
Michael took one glance down at the bleeding maiden and turned his gaze back at Faith. "I see the flowers I recommended worked. A shame I was delayed by that mother of hers to see the effect on it." He kicked the downed Brianna, making the blonde gasp in pain. "I do hope to get this body out quickly so we can bury it in the royal gardens. There's so much wide open space and the soil will be quite fertile. We could grow some better flowers out there."
Faith smiled, hugging him. "I would love that very much. How long does it take the body to die from Fireblood Roses though? It's been five minutes."
Michael stared down at the now sullen face of Brianna before smirking. "Shouldn't be too long now. Thank goodness you told me how much of a witch your sister is. I can't imagine me marrying someone as sly and conniving as her."
Faith watched in sadistic glee as Brianna finally bled out all the way. "It's what she deserves for messing with me and my man."
Justice was served and the revenge was sweeter than she imagined.
Then again, if she never plucked the rose, the thorns would've bothered her to no end.
