Greetings mortals, I am Quinn!

That's the name that my boss gave me when he made the contract, but that's not important!

Once upon a time, not so long ago, I was a young lady who read a terrible book! Ugh, the typical storyline of a wronged girl cast away by society, the main girl who gets what she wants, and the stubborn male lead who refused to change himself.

Mercella Mercer was a child of the God of Light and the Goddess of Darkness. However, to gain access to the Heavenly Realm, she had to spend her days around the mortals and learn light magic along with dark ones. Problem was, dark magic was outlawed by the so-called church and anyone caught learning or teaching said magic would be burned at the stake. Our girl was not deterred since she got placed in the most prestigious school in the land. This was where she would meet our main man....and the woman.

Alessa Drew was raised in the Church of the Light God and was brainwashed to believe everything they told her. Since they believe her to be the incarnation of the daughter of light, she was pampered, spoiled, and trained to ascend into the Heavenly Realm to bring light back to the world. So, in case you haven't been paying attention, she's destined for great things. Because of this influence and affluence, she subtly bullies Mercella and plays the victim whenever she gets caught. This caused many to isolate Mercella and help Alessa take to becoming the Grand High Witch.

Then there's my boss, Virgo the upcoming Grand High Wizard. In this world, to symbolize the balance between man and woman, the people choose a witch and wizard of great power to restore the light and bring a new age of peace to the world. Virgo was raised by the former Grand High Witch and taught to discern good from evil. He learned both light and dark magic to get his throne. However, due to his immense magic power and sheltered life, he never leveled up his discernment. When he made it to the academy, he saw Alessa and Mercella as his rivals. Due to Alessa's manipulative nature, he helped her to stop Mercella from ever getting followers and found out that she was learning dark magic. This caused him to rat her out in front of the whole graduating class and got her burned alive.

I was so floored by this hypocrisy since he was raised to be taught dark magic too!

Towards the end of the book, Virgo and Alessa get named the top of their class and prepare to take over the Heavenly Realm. However, due to the death of their daughter, the two Heavenly Beings locked them out of the realm and never again made contact with the humans. The story ends on a tragic note as humanity is left to suffer for the actions against Mercella.

Well...not this time!

This time I will stop the end of extinction and save my favorite character from her untimely demise!

"Mercella, you must reveal to them that you can wield both light and dark magic before the Ascension Ball!"

"Mercella, you look beautiful in that purple gown today! I bet some silver jewelry would make you even more beautiful."

"Mercella, I have made you a meal since those mean girls trashed yours. Do not worry, I have all your favorites."

One could say that having a guardian angel that protects you makes you feel more safer and secure.

For me, I have a little dragon following me wherever I go.

Ever since I came to the academy, the only thing people wanted me to do was to leave or die. Either way, they wanted me out of the academy for using dark magic in my daily life. This did not deter me, however, since I was born with such a skill. Shouldn't I stop using magic that benefits me better than them?

I do believe that it was Alessa that caused the rumors of me being a 'devil child. Her bright personality and links with the Church of Light cause her to gain popularity and love. Everyone wants to be her friend and she wants everyone to mock and scorn me. I've had water poured on my head, my homework was burnt to a crisp, and the other witches constantly cast hexes on me. Alessa is the worse offender, with her compliments disguising her ugly facade and playing the victim when people see us together.

I see no reason to keep going on here until this little dragon started to help me out.

It appeared when the apprentice of the former Grand High Witch came into the scene. Virgo took the academy by storm and often showcases his magic for all to praise him. He too hates me because of my prowess of dark magic and seeks to bring me down. What he doesn't know is that his familiar has been helping me out with avoiding punishments, people, and other things that used to bother me.

"Quinn, why do you spend your time helping me out? Surely your master will punish you once he learns that you are assisting me."

I once asked her this after another unfortunate encounter with Alessa. She claims to have tamed fiercer familiars and tried to coax the dragon to leave my side. This ended up with Quinn setting her school clothes ablaze and snapping at her retreating figure. We had a goodnight after that.

"Mercella, you are more than what they say about you. I bet you could take on anyone in this school and beat them to a bloody pulp!" The dragon huffed, leaning onto my body. "You can use dark magic and light magic well! Why not take over the school and show them whose boss?"

I patted her snout. "My powers are both a blessing and a curse. If I were to show too much, they would fear me. Showing too little will make me seem weak. If I can just endure this year and make sure I earn the title of Grand High Witch, then I will be away from this plane of humanity. Until then, I must endure."

There was silence for a minute before Quinn looked me in the eyes. Her smoldering orbs gazing into my midnight ones.

"I will reveal something quite shocking to you Mercella. Once I utter these words, you will change your mind about these so-called schoolmates of yours. I'm afraid to inform you that you probably won't make it out of school alive."

"What do you mean?"

"Alessa and Virgo are plotting to rat you out during the graduation. They know that you use dark magic and aren't bad, but they refuse to have you alive and powerful. So, with the help of the Church of Light, they are plotting to kill you with a powerful Fire spell!" Quinn turned away, ashamed. "The worst part is that this could've been prevented if you had only used your light powers. I've seen the future to know you won't have a happy ending. It's also hypocritical because Virgo is affluent in both magic too!"

The world came crashing down upon me. I didn't want to believe what I was hearing, but the words rang true in my head. I knew the two hated me, but to kill me for knowing both light and dark magic?

How disgusting.

"Well Quinn, seeing as you have betrayed your master to tell me all of this, what is the most suitable way to punish everyone here?"

If the dragon could smile, she would've. "I may have the perfect way of getting back at everyone here at the academy."

Nobody saw it coming.

Nobody could sense it happening.

In the middle of the night, strange glowing fuzzballs were seen floating throughout the academy. All the professors, faculty, students, and other nobles who were asleep had no idea what was going to happen to them. Silence permeated the air as they all inhaled the fuzzballs. With the sudden inhalation, their bodies slowly turned to stone. Those who had awoken in the middle of the night screamed in shock but were frozen in their fright. Alessa and Virgo both woke up in Virgo's bed and saw themselves being turned into stone.

"What's going on? Quick, cast a petrification counter spell!" Alessa screeched, losing the feeling in her toes.

Virgo tried to use his magic to reverse the effects but failed. "I cannot cast a counterspell! This magic....is over my limit!"

The two tried in vain to stop their stoning and were unable to do so. They perished with fear evident in their eyes.

By the time morning came, nobody was left alive. Those fuzzballs were made with a mixture of light and dark magic, laced with a powerful drug that Mercella created to take down the other kingdoms. It was powerful, powerful enough that there was no cure.

Mercella stood outside the once pristine academy with a smirk on her face. Now that the competition was gone, she was now the only one who could take the moniker of Grand High Witch. Thumping noises were heard behind her as Quinn, now a large dragon with an impressive wingspan landed behind her with a smirk.

"Are you sure this is what you wanted? This was quite merciful." Quinn said, wrapping her tail around Mercella.

"Well since they wanted to give me a painful death, I decided a painless one was much more effective." Mercella closed her eyes and smiled. "Truly, this was an act of mercy on me."

The skies split open as the Heavenly Realm appeared before them. The dragon and the villainess were not for this world at all.

No one would know who killed the people of the academy. That could be because no one would remember it at all.
