Chapter 9- Stop Quoting Adele!
Chapter 9
I woke up with a jolt.
For some reason I feel something is stuck to my forehead. I feel my forehead and sure enough there is something.
A sticky note. It's written in some sorta scribbled hand writing:
Good morning sunshine. You sure aren't a pretty sleeper. Anyways the movie was quite enjoyable. I mean, kids fighting to the death is so thrilling. I decided not to wake you because I do not want to wake the up the scary zombie teenage girl. See you at school.
The guy who is definitely hotter than Dylan O'Brien,
Spencer
I could feel myself scoff throughout the whole time I read this stupid note. I am so a pretty sleeper. I am SO NOT a scary zombie. And most important of all, Spencer is SO NOT hotter then Dylan O'Brien. Well it's pretty close, my inner voice chants. I tell it to shut up though.
I hobble up the stairs to get ready for the glorious school day I'm about to have. Sarcasm deeply used folks.
I have a 15 or so minute shower, hop out and then continue to get ready for school.
I put on the first outfit I find, a comfy Nike sweater and some yoga pants. I would usually wear jeans but I can't since I have on that stupid brace. My ankle feels a lot better since yesterday, but I still can't do much. It is always really annoying, because it takes me twice as long to walk. Lastly, I also can't play soccer for the next couple of days.
Anyways, I put my hair in a beautiful messy ponytail, that I put no what so ever effort into.
I then pack up all my stuff for the school day and go downstairs to the kitchen to make breakfast.
I find Lily looking for food in the pantry. She is getting her school snacks for her lunch.
I'm sorta glad that I don't ever have to wake her up in the morning, she has like her own alarm clock in her head that just magically wakes her up in the morning at the exact same time each day. I wish I was like that but no, I'd sleep all day if it wasn't for my alarm clock.
We both gobble down our breakfast in minutes.
After getting ready and packed for school we head off.
I drop Lily off at school and hug her goodbye.
By the time I get to school I have five minutes to spare.
I head inside this disgraceful craphole some people would call this school. Sure this school looks all fancy, but the kids inside are the crap. Well except for a handful of them. Like Emma, Nova, Jace, Parker, and occasionally Spencer.
Don't get me wrong, I love learning and all. Just not at this place.
Anyways, enough with my inner ranting.
I head for my locker, and I see a familiar bubbly brunette waiting beside it.
She immediately sees me.
"Hey Jess, have you heard the news?" She greets, suddenly.
Confused I reply, furrowing my eyebrows. "Um no, what's the news?"
She gasps. "You haven't heard? Clarissa is throwing this huge party tomorrow night. Only certain people are invited, though." She exclaims, a little saddened at the end. My guess is Clarissa is only inviting the popular people. Like the cheerleaders, jocks, and the oh so famous bad boys. That would include Spencer and Parker.
"What's so special about her parties?" I question.
"They are legendary. Not only are the high school seniors invited, but so are college students. The parties are so crazy sometimes. I heard that there is always fights that break out, at each and everyone of them." Emma explains in astonishment.
"Wow that really is crazy. Anyways, we better get to class now." I reply and we start to head to AP English.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
Here I sit in class, bored out of my mind.
Mr. Davis is currently giving some poor kid a disciplinary speech, about how he shouldn't have forgot his textbook. The guy is obviously helplessness since Mr.Davis won't even let him say a word, without cutting him off. The student is extremely flustered at this attention and discipline.
"Do you not know how important these textbooks are boy? No of course to don't. Kids these days don't know or care about anything. Which leads me back to this. You probably don't even care about this class! I will see you in detention today, and then we will see if you care or not!" Mr. Davis rambles on frustrated at the powerless boy.
"But Mr-" The guy tries to start, but he is cut off by the grumpy teacher.
"That is enough young man!" And that is the end of the disciplinary speech. Mr. Davis had been screeching at him for the past ten minutes. I zoned out after the first couple of minutes though.
"Fill you textbooks out to page 18." Mr. Davis orders, to all of us.
"Everyone who actually has the decency to remember theirs." He adds, getting angry again.
Seriously take a chill pill Mr. Davis. He getting madder than me, when someone eats the last piece of pizza and I wanted it.
"Ring! Ring! Ring!" Is the sound the bell signalling the end of class makes, as we open our textbooks.
We all start to rush out of the classroom. Guess who left first? If you guessed that defenceless guy who forgot his textbook book, then you are absolutely correct.
As we exit the classroom Mr. Davis continues to holler. "Read pages 18-28 for homework!" Most people will actually maybe do their homework, since they don't want to be featured in an episode like today's with him.
Emma and me walk down the hallway to our lockers.
"So who do you think is invited to Clarissa's party?" She questions, bringing up the party topic again. Emma really must want to go to that party.
"I don't know, probably the popular crowd." I reply as we turn down the school hallway.
"Maybe you will be invited then."
I freeze. "What did you say?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. Just making sure I heard the strangest words ever.
"Maybe you will be invited Jess. You are pretty popular already here. You've been all the latest talk these days." Emma explains, with a little sparkle in her eyes.
I suddenly bark out into laughter. Like full on howling. Students give me weird glances as they walk by us. Probably because I look like I'm a walrus having a seizure.
"Me" I point to myself as I gasp for air. "Popular."
"Now that's the funniest thing I heard since gangnam style, and that was three years ago." I say finally getting somewhat calm.
She rolls her eyes at this. "You are way too dramatic for your own good Jess. You are popular at this school. Everyone knows your name. Also like 90% of us know you are a gifted genius. We also all know you hangout with Spencer and Parker, they are the two most popular guys in the school." She responds as we start walking again.
"First of all, everyone only knows my name since you guys never get new students. Secondly, I'm not that gifted. Third of all, I'm not dramatic. And lastly, how are Spencer and Parker the two most popular guys if they don't really hangout with anyone but each other?" I exclaim, using my fingers as I say each fact and question.
"Stop lying to yourself." She states, scoffing at me. "Also about Spencer and Parker, everyone is afraid of them. Well, particularly Spencer." She replies to my question.
We get to our lockers. I quickly grab my stuff for my next subject and heard over to her locker, which is directly across the hallway.
"I'm not afraid of him." I exclaim.
"Exactly." Is her response, as she leaves me. But I had enough time to see a weird sparkle of mischief hidden in her eyes. Oh well.
I sigh, as I see her brunette hair fade into the crowd of students.
Since we were just talking about Spencer, that suddenly reminds me about something. I haven't seen him at all today, not even in English. I wonder where he is. Probably doing something I shouldn't know about. Most likely illegal.
And with that last thought, I head to AP physics.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
By the time lunch roles by, still no sign of Spencer. I don't think I saw Parker at all either. I know that I shouldn't care, but yet some tiny part of me does.
Emma and me are currently waiting in line for our lunch. She continues to go on about how I'm going to invited to that party. It's just a lame arse party, I think.
"I wonder what you are going to wear?" Emma exclaims. "Because, no offence but a soccer jersey and sweatpants aren't going to cut it darling."
I scoff in response. "Emma, you are thinking way too much about this moronic party. I'm not even going to be invited, okay?"
She completely ignores my last comment. "I wonder what you would look like in a dress? Oh, and I could do your hair and makeup!" Emma practically squeals.
Now I ignore her. I grab my lunch, which consists of pizza, pop and a apple. I gotta keep it healthy, somewhat.
I then pay for my lunch and Emma does the same. We both head for our usual table, where Nova and Jace sit.
I search around the tables, looking at all the different stereotypes sitting together. Suddenly I see a two familiar dark haired, leather jacket wearing bad boys.
I turn to Emma and say. "I'll be right back, okay?" And glance towards the two boys.
She follows my gaze, smiles, and nods her head in response.
I walk over to their table.
"Hello, it's me." I sing/screech at them. Sorry I've had Adele's latest hit stick in my head all day.
Spencer immediately covers his ears. Parker on the other hand, understands my greeting right away.
"What the bloody hell?" Spencer swears. Wait he's British?
"You're British?" I question, talking about his British cursing.
"Um yea." He replies blandly.
"How come you don't sound British all the time?" I point out.
"I was born in Britain, then moved here when I was 6 years old. So that's why I don't have that big of an accent." He explains.
"I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet, to go over everything." I suddenly sing, off key. I just remembered that I should be the next Adele.
Parker barks out into laughing fits.
"Stop screeching, you're damaging my poor ears!" Spencer growls, covering his ears again.
"They say that times supposed to heal yea. But I ain't done much healing." I continue to sing.
"What are you even screeching?" Spencer questions, angrily.
"Hello, can you hear me?" I sing.
"Yes, of course I can fucking hear you, you're screaming." He hisses.
That just makes Parker laugh more.
"I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be." I screech out, dramatically.
"Um no you're not, you're in Eberly." He points out, suddenly confused. How does he not know what I'm singing?
"When we were younger and free."
"What, I'm so confused?" He exclaims, scratching his head.
"I forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet." I continue to sing. It's so hard not to just start barking out laughing right now.
"I don't remember either." Spencer states, scrunching up his face in a adorable way.
"There's such a difference between us. And a million miles."
"What? We are sitting right across from each other." He says tilting his head.
Hopefully he will catch on now. "Hello from the other side!" I sing out, louder then the other lines. I put my arms out dramatically.
"Oh I get it!" He exclaims, yet he is still somewhat angry.
"I must've called a thousand times!" I sing out.
"Stop quoting Adele!" Spencer commands. Hahaha nope. I might stop after the chorus though.
"To tell you, I'm sorry for everything that I've done!"
"You haven't done anything, except being extremely annoying!" He shouts.
"But when I call you never seem to be home." I exclaim tellingly.
Spencer sits silently. He is looking at me murderously. Uh oh.
I continue to sing though. "Hello from the outside!"
He suddenly jumps up. "You have three seconds to run, use them wisely."
I quickly sprint away from the table. I'm heading for the hallway. I hear heavy footsteps following me.
I skillfully maneuver my way around all the tables full of students.
The sound of footsteps is still behind me, but is getting closer.
I manage to get out of the cafeteria and and head for outside.
"I'm going to get you kitten!" I hear Spencer growl after me.
"At least I can say that I've tried... to tell you." I pant out, still using Adele's song.
I make it outside to the soccer fields, how I managed I don't know. Since I hurt my leg yesterday i haven't done much running. I must be a pretty fast hobbler.
Suddenly I'm tackled lightly to the ground. Dang it.
I'm flipped around, so I'm on my back. Spencer is currently straddling me, but making sure he doesn't squash me like a bug.
"I got you kitten." He pants, huskily.
"I'm sorry for breaking you're heart." I sing softly, actually using my real singing voice.
He stares at me with wide eyes.
"But it don't matter, it clearly doesn't tear you apart." I wait a few seconds to sing. "Anymore."
Without warning, the lunch bell rings. Instantly Spencer jumps off of me. He gives me his hand to help me up and I accept it.
Silence dawns upon us. We sorta just stand there for a few seconds, looking at each other.
"We better get to class." Spencer states coldly. He starts to walk away from me.
I hobble quickly to catch up to him. "I'll have to sit out anyways." I say looking down, as we walk back inside the school.
"Don't worry we are just probably going to be doing volleyball today." Spencer responds.
"Oh, I like volleyball though." I state.
"Yea, you're pretty good at it." Spencer says nonchalantly.
I fake gasp. "Did Spencer Gold just give me a compliment?" I tease. I just love teasing him.
"Shut up." He grumbles.
We make our way down to our lockers, since ours are practically beside each other.
"I hope Parker grab my stuff." Spencer exclaims.
I suddenly realize something. "NO!!" I shout, putting my hands on my face.
Spencer quickly grabs my wrists. "What? What's the matter?" He says worried.
"I forgot my poor pizza in the cafeteria." I say looking down, pouting.
He immediately let's go of my wrists and scoffs. "Worried about her stupid pizza." I hear him mumble.
I gasp. "How dare you! All pizza is sacred!" I exclaim. I praise the person who invented pizza. His name is Raffaele Eposito, who was a baker in Naples, in 1889.
"Okay. Okay." Spencer surrenders.
"My poor innocent pizza." I mumble to myself.
"He probably ate it." He says unconcerned.
I scrunch up my face at him, but stay silence. I grab my English, and Physics homework I was assigned earlier today.
Spencer looks at me confused.
"I can't just sit there and do nothing while you guys are playing volleyball." I explain in a 'duh' tone.
He rolls his eyes. "Okay let's go."
"What about my pizza?" I question.
"Parker probably brought it for you." He says blandly.
"Okay."
🌸🌸🌸🌸
Parker in fact, did not bring my pizza. He ate it. So now, I'm currently giving both of the, the silent treatment.
"What did I even do?" Spencer groans, clearly annoyed.
I whisper to Nova, who is standing with us well we wait for Mr. Bennett to come.
"She says you raised her hopes up, that Parker brought her pizza and did not eat it." Nova states to Spencer.
"Ugh, well that's her fault then for believing me." He exclaims, grumbling.
I whisper to Nova.
"Is not." She simply says for me.
"Is too." He replies, glaring at me.
I whisper my reply again to Nova.
"Is not." She exclaims, smirking. I can tell that she finds this very amusing.
"Is too." He growls, looking at me.
I go to whisper to Nova again, but Parker shouts something.
"Will you guys just cut it out. Hug it or whatever, this is dumb. You two fight like a married couple." Parker shouts at us.
Nova laughs at this. But neither Spencer or I find his remark funny.
"Oh shut it Parker!" Spencer and I say in unison. We are both clearly embarrassed.
That just makes Nova and Parker bark out into more fits of laughter.
"It's not funny!" We say, once again in unison.
"Cut it out!" We say to each other at the same time again.
"No you cut it out!" Again, seriously!
"Ugh, stop it." I say putting my hands to my head, gripping my hair.
Parker and Nova, as known as the laughing losers, continue to howl.
"That was hilarious!" Nova exclaims, in between laughter.
"Was not." Spencer mumbles.
A whistle suddenly blows, causing us to the forget that embarrassing moment for me and Spencer.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
Now, I'm doing my AP Physics homework, while everyone changes. Spencer and Parker said they would meet me back here after. Nova had to go find Jace and Emma.
Suddenly I hear a click click of high heels. I look up to see Clarissa and her minions.
Strangely she throws me a huge smile. "Hi Jessica. How are you?" Um what's up with her? Is it Opposite Day today and I didn't know about it?
"Um hi, I'm good. How are you." I say, unsure of why she is being so kind to me. Did t she just threaten me a couple of days ago?
"I'm amazing." She says practically glowing in happiness. Of course you think you are amazing.
"Anyways I just wanted to give you this." Clarissa exclaims, handing me a pink envelope. "Toodles."
I give her a wave goodbye as she and her posse walk away.
I open the envelope to read:
You are invited to the legendary Clarissa Simmons's party.
