Chapter 5-Georgia state genius

   Chapter 5

The next day, for the first time ever I wake up dreading to go to school. I slowly get out of bed and drag myself into my bathroom. There I have a shower and dry my hair.

Next I get dressed into my regular attire of jeans, a simple athletic t-shirt and my worn out white converses. I let my hair down again, since I am too lazy to do anything with it.

Lastly I grab my bag, full of my supplies I will need throughout the day. My homework, phone and lunch money. I walk into Lily's room to find her already dressed for the day. She immediately notices me walk in.

"Good morning Lily, what do you want for breakfast?" I ask her. She will probably pick pancakes. Those are her favourite, just like me.

"Good morning Jess! Can I have pancakes please?" She asks. I reply with a yep. I then head down stairs to make our breakfast.

Lily comes downstairs about five minutes later, and I help her pack her lunch for school.

When the pancakes are ready I put them on to separate plates. I put syrup on Lily's, making it in the shape of a heart. I then just drown mine in syrup. Yummy. After eating breakfast, I brushed my teeth and helped Lily get ready.

We then headed out the door. I look into Spencer's yard, since I just recently found out he was my neighbour. I see him walking out to a motorcycle. Bad boy rides a motorcycle, how freaking cliche.

He notices me and Lily, and for some reason doesn't look surprised at all. He walks over to me and Lily, and we meet each other in the middle of our two yards.

Lily suddenly recognizes him as says. "Hey, I know you, your the guy that Jess beat at the park! Hi I'm Lily." She then reaches her arm out to shake Spencer's hand.

He chuckles and replies." Yep that's me, I'm Spencer." He says shaking her timy hand, he then turns to me. "Hi Jessa." He says cheekily, knowing how to get on my nerves.

I roll my eyes. " Hi Spencer." I turn to Lily. "Come on, we have to get going to school." I say, holding her hand. "Bye Spencer." I then add.

"Bye Jessa, I'll see you at school." He replies, walking back to his bike. I roll my eyes again. Can he please stop calling me that name.

After getting Lily into her car sit, I close the car door and turn to see if Spencer has left yet. Nope, he is staring at me for some odd reason. I make a confused face and hop into my car, then drive off heading to Lily's school.

I drop her off, making sure she sees her friends. I sigh. It's going to be a huge pain having to drive Lily and myself to and home from school each day. I start the car back up and drive to North Wood high.

I really don't want to go to school today, and that's say something. I've always loved school. The socializing, making friends, the sensation of getting a question right or getting a test back. Also all the clubs and teams you can join.

This year is sort of different though, I can't join every school team or club that I was in last year since I have to watch Lily before and after school. I could hire a babysitter, but then that's where all our money would go to, and without money, I would have to have a job. And if I have a job, then I couldn't really join teams or clubs after school anyways. So the whole thing really was pointless.

I would really love to tryout for the soccer team though. I probably won't even make it since I'm the newbie here.

I quickly spot Emma reading a book under a tree, when I get out of my car. I walk over to her and greet her. " Hey Emma, what book are you reading?" I exclaim.

"Oh, hi Jessie! I'm just reading The Fault In Our Stars for like the third time!" She reply happily. She gets up and we walk into school. We go in the same direction, since our lockers are close to each other, along with most of the other seniors.

I open up my locker stuffing my bag in it after getting my English homework and supplies out of it. I slam my locker shut. So does Emma, who just got her stuff out of hers as well.

Suddenly the whole hallway goes silence. Me and Emma exchanged puzzled looks. I then look down the hallway, where Spencer is slowly walking down, ignoring all the looks and whispers.

He walks in my direction and I think, you've got to be kidding me. He then turns to a locker a couple of lockers to the left of mine and unlocks it. Well it's better then him talking to me and calling me Jessa, I think to myself. But sadly he walks over to me and Emma. "Hi Jessa would you like me to walk you to class?" He asks. Why is he being so polite?

I look over to Emma, asking for permission. She nods her head." Go on, I'll be there soon, just go to find Jace and Nova." She says. I nod back to her and say goodbye.

Me and Spencer walk to class in a some what comfortable silence. He then breaks it." So I see your making friends here. "

"Yep, Emma, Nova and Jace." I reply. But when I mention Jace's name his face suddenly turns sour.

"I don't like Jace, he was on the soccer team last year." He states, as if that is a reasonable explanation. I roll my eyes.

"Spencer, I don't think you like anyone at this school."

"That's not true, I like Parker." He states. Well no duh, he's your best friend, you have to like him.

"He doesn't count." I say, scoffing.

We reach the classroom. Spencer starts walking to the back row, I head over to the third row. He questions me. "What are you doing?"

"Um, sitting down? Emma's going to sit beside me." I say, slightly confused.

"Come sit with me back here, Kitten." He replies, talking about the back row. But that's where the scary people sit. I gulp. He notices.

"Are you scared?" He then asks, mockingly.

"No!" I say quickly, and slowly get up and sit in the desk beside Spencer.

"Where is Parker going to sit?" I then ask, suddenly thinking I took his spot.

He chuckles. "Beside you, Kitten." He replies smoothly.

"Oh, okay." I say, dumbly. I then ask him. "Why am I even sitting here?"

"Because I'm amazing and you want to sit beside me." He states, cockily. Someone sure is full of them self.

"Yea amazingly annoying."I mumble under my breath. He then let's out a laugh, oh I guess he heard my insult.

After his laughter dies down, the whole classroom is very quiet, even though most of the students are here waiting for class to start. I then look throughout the class, and see most of them staring at me and Spencer. This is so uncomfortable. Turn around, please people.

"They are all staring at us." I whisper leaning closer to Spencer, so he can hear me. Noticing how I'm extremely uncomfortable he then shouts to the whole class.

"We are not a tv show, stop fricking watching us." And with that one statement the whole class turns their attention away from us.

"Thanks." I whisper to him.

"No problem, Kitten." He replies, once again using a pet name for me. Why can't he just use my real name or something?

"What's with the pet name?" I ask him, making annoyance clear in my tone. But he didn't get to reply since that's when Mr.Davis walked into the classroom.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
Poke.

Poke.

Poke.

Poke. Okay I've had enough.

Poke. I turn around, grab Spencer's pencil and snap it in half. I then through it back at him, and turn back to my worksheet. That will show him for being an annoying little pest. He has been poking me on the shoulder, with his pencil for at least five minutes and I finally had enough.

I hear Parker bark out a huge laugh. I turn around to see him laughing at Spencer's reaction. He looks like I just ran over his dog.

"What's the big deal?" I ask him, laughing.

"That was my only pencil." He replies back, frowning.

"Sucks, to suck. " I say back, sticking my tongue out at him.

"Hey, give me a pencil." He orders me.

"What am I, your maid? No, I'm not giving you a pencil." I reply in annoyance. He then stands up getting Mr. Davis's attention. Oh no you don't.

"Mr, Davis, Jessica just broke my only pencil in half and when I politely asked her if I could borrow one of hers, and she refused. " he says holding the remains of his pencil in his hands.

The whole class turns to the back of the room, where we were sitting. My face reddens, due to embarrassment and anger. How dare he?

I stand up. "That is so not true, you were annoyingly poking me with your pencil for the past five minutes!" I shout at Spencer

"That is enough!" Mr. Davis yells at us getting our attention. "Jessica I am very disappointed, detention after school." He says. No, no, no, that's not possible.

"No, Mr.Davis you don't understand, I can't-" I start, but he cuts me off.

"Shall I see you in detention tomorrow as well?" He threatens. I slowly sit down, defeated.

"Get back to work, students!" He then shouts, and the whole class goes back to the worksheets. No,no,no, I can't have detention! That's not going to work.

I ignore Spencer and Parker, who try to talk to me. That's also very difficult because, I'm sitting in the middle of them. I continue to work on the worksheets.

About ten minutes later the bell rings, saving me from this horrible class. I storm out of the classroom frustrated. Frustrated at Spencer, at Mr. Davis for being unreasonable, Parker for not stopping Spencer and frustrated at the whole situation.

Suddenly an arm pulls mine, turning me around. It's Spencer.

"This is all your fault!" I screech at him.

"How is it mine? You were the one who broke my last pencil!"he shouts at me. Now I'm scared.

Slightly frightened I squeak out at him. " you were the one who told Mr.Davis and now I have detention after school, which isn't even fair."

"Why is getting detention such a big deal? What are you afraid this will ruin your perfect record?" He says mockingly, with a hint of anger. Well that is part of it. But no, that's not the only reason.

"No it's not, you wouldn't understand, so leave me the heck alone." I reply weakly, hoping he doesn't notice my tone. I rush past him, going to my other class.

He doesn't call out my name, but for some reason I'm glad he didn't.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
AP physics was alright. It would have been better if I knew anyone in the class. I keep to myself during the lesson, but still raised my hand and answer questions, like I usually do.

We all then work on some formulas Miss Murphy wrote on the board. I'm one the first one finished.

Miss Murphy then asks if I can send Mr. Jackson, the geography teacher a note. She then tells me the direction to his classroom, since I don't know where it is. She thanks me as I head out the door to the classroom.

I don't open the note as I walk to Mr. Jackson's classroom though, since the note is probably personally. They are both single after all, I think. Actually I don't even want to think about it.

The walk to the geography classroom was pretty lengthy and took me awhile, trying to follow Miss Murphy's directions.

I peek my head in the classroom, without anyone seeing me. I notice Emma and Jace are in this class. So is Spencer. Also to make this even worse, Clarissa is here too. Well isn't this a party.

I knock on the door of the classroom, now catching everyone's attention.

"Um hi, Mr. Jackson. Miss Murphy wanted me to give you this note." I say awkwardly, well walking into the classroom to hand him the note."

"Oh, yes. Thank you very much Jessica." He replies, giving me a warm smile. How did he know my name? It really sucks being the new girl at a school, that rarely ever gets them.

"No problem, I should probably get back to class now." I say about to turn around and head out the door.

"Oh, yes AP physics is always fun." Mr. Jackson say, sarcastically.

"It actually is." I reply truthfully. What, call me a nerd but I love all subjects.

"Oh right, aren't you a like genius or something?" He asks. Oh right, he just has to say that in front of the whole class.

"Um.." I exclaim, not knowing how to reply.

"Oh yes your are, class I heard she won the Georgia genius award, last year!" It is true, but did you seriously have to mention that though dude.

The classes jaws all drop. Even Spencer, Emma and Jace's jaws drop. I see Clarissa scoff.

Some people start asking me question such as:

"Really?"

"Are you like the new Einstein?"

"Did you get lots of money?"

Even this one: "Are you an alien?"

I only answer the first one though. "Yes, it's true, last year my old school all wanted me to enter the competition and I did. I didn't think I would, but I won." Most of them look at me in awe.

Wow, this is so off topic. Aren't they suppose to be learning about geography, not my personal life.

I discreetly leave the room, after saying bye to Mr. Jackson.

By the time I sit back in my sit in AP physics the bell rings. Well I certainly learned a lot in physics today. Not.

I pack up my things and walk out of the class, into the hallway.

Some kids as they walk past me give me weird glances, a couple of them I recognize from Mr.Jackson's geography class. Oh joy, they are all probably going to tell they're friends about how the new girl is a freaky, geeky genius girl.

I head to my locker to put my Physics books in and get my art supplies out for visual arts.

Emma walks up to me as I close my locker.

"Georgia state genius, huh?" She says, smiling and looking impressed.

"Um yep."

"Is there anything you can't do Jess?" She states, jokingly, I think.

I roll my eyes. "Let's go to class, Emma." I say. She laughs at me , as I try to change the subject.

"Later you have to tell me more about your genius award." I nod in reply.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
"All right class, today we will be expressing our selves. I am giving you five minutes to draw a picture that expresses, describes or shows you or who you are. Go." Mrs. Gonzalez, the visual art teacher exclaims, as we all get settled into our spots.

I immediately fill open my sketchbook to a blank piece of paper. What even describes me or who I am?" I then suddenly get an idea.

In exactly five minutes I'm finished. When Mrs. Gonzalez tells us to stop I left my hand up.

"Okay, any volunteers?" She asks, looking around the class. One of the jocks raises his hand. She chooses him.

"Well I drew a basketball, because I'm a basketball player and I like basketball. "He states proudly. Seriously dude it took you five minutes to draw a basketball!!

Mrs. Gonzalez clearly agrees with me. "So it took you five minutes to draw a circle, then George." She says, clearly annoyed.

"Anyways, anyone else?" She asks around, not impressed with the guy named George's drawing.

"How about you Jessica?" She asks sweetly. Ugh, I guess so.

"Well, I drew a girl clouded with dozens of words that describe her because that is me. I am constantly being describe using words. She's the freaky genius girl. New girl. Soccer girl. Perfectionist. Goodie-two-shoes. Geek. Pathetic. Wannabe. The list goes on forever. That girl, she is sick and tired of being labelled, mistreated and describe by only one word. I am that girl." I state, rambling out my frustrations.

"That's what I was looking for class. Jessica here channeled her inner feelings." Mrs. Gonzalez exclaims, cheerfully. But her voice is muffled to me. My vision gets blurry, my eyes filling with tears.

I rush out of the room, in a quick flash and so that I can't hear Emma or Mrs. Gonzalez call my name. I choke out a sob, that I have been holding in since period. I hate this school.

I lean against one of the lockers in a different hallway, and bury my head into my legs. I continue crying. Oh god, I feel so pathetic.

I suddenly hear footsteps. Uh, oh. I slowly lift my head up to see the person.

"Oh crap kitten, what's the matter?" I lift my head back down into my lap.

"Did I do this? Oh kitten, please don't cry. Don't cry." Spencer softly says, as he bends down, pushing my yucky hair away from my face. I can tell he is upset with himself. I sorta feel bad.

"It's not your fault." I croak out. He doesn't believe me though.

"Oh my god, it is. I'm such idiot. Ugh." He exclaims groaning.

I look over at him. "Seriously though, it isn't." I reply, trying to stop the tears from falling. "I haven't talked to you about why I moved here. " I croak out, sobbing again.

"Shh, shh, you don't have to yet. It's okay Jess." He states, calling me by one of my actual names for the first time. He brushes my tears away from my cheeks with his thumb.

"But, I-" I say but Spencer hushes me.

"Shh, it's okay Jess. You don't have to tell me." He says ,soothing me as he raps his arms around my body and pulls me toward him.

He continues to say soothing words to calm me down. I never noticed when I stopped crying. But we sat wrapped in each other's arms until the bell rang, signalling lunch.

We looked at each other one last time, then got off the floor.

"Ugh, I probably look like a monster." I say, talking about my puffy red eyes and frizzy sticking up hair.

"You don't look to bad I guess." He exclaims laughing.

I punch him on the shoulder. Hard. He yelps like a girl, and it's my turn to start laughing.

I stop before the cafeteria, where the whole school is and throw my hair up in a high ponytail and try to hide the redness under my eyes. Spencer watches me silently as I do this.

We then open the doors to the cafeteria and walk in. To my hopes, not a lot of people stare at us as we walk in line to get our food. I suddenly remember that I forgot my lunch money in my locker, oh crap!

"I forgot my lunch money in my locker, I'll be right back." I say to Spencer, who is behind me.

"I can pay for your lunch Jessie." The guy in front of me states, smiling at me. Not creepy at all.

"Um are you sure? You don't have to." I ask, gratefully. He's really nice.

"Yea no problem." He replies grinning at me.

All of a sudden, Spencer steps in front of me to talk to the guy. "No it's fine man, I can pay for her." What the heck dude?

"No I am." The guy says gulping, obviously intimidated by Spencer. Well who wouldn't be?

"Nope, I am buddy." Spencer snaps, glaring at the guy.

"Hey, that's enough Spencer, I'll let you pay for me, just calm down. " I say standing in between the two, putting my hand on Spencer's chest, to separate them.

Spencer smirks triumphantly at the guy, and I roll my eyes.

"Thanks for offering though." I say kindly to the guy, smiling at him. He smiles back, but turns around to get his lunch.

Me and Spencer get our lunches, and I thank Spencer with a small smile.

"Why did you have to be so rude to that guy, he was just trying to be nice?" I ask him as we walk to his table, frowning.

"Seriously kitten? He was trying to get into your pants!" He states angrily.

I start giggling. "Since  when is paying for a girls lunch, trying to get into her pants?"I exclaim, still giggling.

"Ugh, you wouldn't understand." He replies, groaning.

"Oh well." I exclaim, still giggling. We find Parker sitting at they're table, and he was talking to a girl. She looked really nice and friendly. Okay not really. She had short dark hair, a nose piercing and in a black leather jacket.

"Who's that?" I whisper to Spencer.

"That's Addison, Parker's girlfriend." Oh, okay, that makes sense.

"Cool." I reply, as we sit down, me and Spencer, across them.

"Hey Addison." Spencer says to her not even bothering to say hi to Parker. Since I think they had last period together.

"Hello Spencer. Isn't this the girl that beat you at soccer?" She states looking at me.

"Yep that's me. I'm Jessica, but please call me Jess or Jessie." I reply grinning at her.

"Well aren't you cheerful. Spencer needs someone to help him stop being so grumpy all the time." She states, smirking.

I snort as I look over at Spencer, who is frowning. I see what she is talking about. I nudge him, making him stop frowning.

"I see what you mean." I reply to her, looking at her. I turn to look back at Spencer, who is still looking at me. Well at least he's not frowning.

"Well, anyways I got to get going, bye Parker. Nice meeting you Jess." She says getting up, giving Parker a peck on the cheek goodbye.

After she leaves, Parker turns to me and asks me. "So what's so bad about detention Jessie?"

"Well, I have to pick my sister up from school, and since I have detention, I obviously can't." I reply sighing.

"What about your parents?" Spencer asks, looking down at me.

"Well, um, they are busy tonight." I say awkwardly. I can't really just blurt out, oh you know they died recently, and now I have to take care of my little sister full time.

"Oh, then what are you going to do?" Parker asks, his eyes full of concern.

"I don't know what I'm going to do honestly. I mean, I can't really skip my first ever detention, but I also can not definitely leave my little sister at school, well I'm at detention." I reply, stress, clear in my tone.

"I can pick her up." One of them says. I snap my eyes over to Spencer.

"What?" I say, confused.

"I can pick her up, with Sam and they can come home with me, well you are at detention." He states, simply.

"Are you sure?" I reply, not so sure about this.

"Yes kitten, it's perfectly okay." Spencer says rolling his eyes at me.

"Oh my goodness thank you so much!" I say smiling at him. I don't know what I would've done without him.

"No problem kitten." He replies, smiling back at me.
🌸🌸🌸🌸

After lunch all three of us head over to the gym. I head to the girls locker room to change, since this time we all have to change.

I see Nova as she gets her gym clothes out of her gym bag. I wave at her. She rolls her eyes, but waves back.

After we get change we walk into the gym, where most of the boys and some of the girls already sit. Girls take forever to change.

I see Spencer and Parker on the other side of the gym.

Mr. Bennett walks into the gym, shortly after everyone is changed. He then divides the teams up randomly. I'm on Nova and Parkers team. Clarissa is on the other team, smirking at all of us on this side, her competition.

"All right, let's get this show on the the road." He says, throwing the ball at the kid on the other side who is in the serving position.

After four sets its still tied, 2-2. We won the first and third set and they won the second and fourth. I noticed Clarissa always tried to aim her spikes at me. But I brushed it of, since they backfired and I would always stop them.

"Alright  last set, whoever wins this set wins the game. Good luck, may the odds be ever in your favour." Mr. Bennett shouts, probably not realizing he just quoted the hunger games. And like the hunger games, this game I will either win or lose.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
In the end, we won.

It wasn't that big off a deal though. It was to Clarissa though, she got all red and stomped out of the gym. I guess, she doesn't know how to lose.

Me and Nova head to girls locker room to change.

Once we are changed, we walk into the hallway to get our books for our next classes. Our lockers are on opposites sides of the school though, so we separated in different ways after saying bye.

I head down the hallway to my locker. After I get my AP calculus books and homework out of my locker I head to class.

Right as the bell rings I sit down in a desk.

Mrs. Bailey, the AP calculus teacher walks into the room.

"Alright class let's take up lasts nights homework." She states, cheerfully.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
The bell rings, ending the second day of school. We all pack our books and bags up.

"Bye, class have a good night and remember to do your homework this time." She finishes, ending the class, as we all walk out of the classroom.

Oh joy, time to go to detention. I walk back to Mr. Davis's classroom, where detention is being held.

I see Spencer leaning against the wall, beside the classroom. I walk up to him and he notices me.

"I'll be picking your sister up now, okay?" He asks, looking down at me. I nod.

"Thanks again, Spencer." I thank him again.

"No problem. Bye kitten." Spencer says turning around and walking away.

"Bye Spencer." I mumble, rolling my eyes.

I open the door to the classroom. There were only a few people here. All of them looked scary.
They all looked at me in surprise. I roll my eyes, for the second time in the past 30 seconds.

I head to the back of the classroom sitting in a spot. I open up my Physics homework. Nows the time to do it.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
Detention was stupid. We all just sat in the classroom until Mr. Davis dismissed us. The other students there were just on their phones and drawing inappropriate pictures on the chalkboard.

I drove home and parked in my driveway. I then walked over to Spencer's house, right beside mine. I ringed the doorbell and waited for awhile.

Lily opened the door, smiling up at me. "Hi Jess!"

"Hi Lily how are you?" I say bending down to hug her. She raps her tiny arms around me.

"Awesome. I got to play with Sam and Spencer!" She squeals, letting go of me. I smile at her.

"That's nice. Let's go find Spencer and Sam." I say, as she holds my hand and we close the door.

He house is huge. There is a large stairway leading up stairs, a huge living room and a enormous kitchen, with updated appliances.

We find them downstairs. It's a nice cozy space, much more realistic in my opinion.

On the couch sit Sam and Spencer playing call of duty. I stare at the tv, my jaw dropped.

"You are letting five year old play call of duty!" I scream at him, grabbing his attention. He jumps up, startled. He then rolls his eyes.

"Hi kitten." He says, not even looking at me.

"Did you let my little sister play this violent game." I screech at Spencer.

"No I just let her watch, I let Sam play all the time. He loves it." Spencer replies nonchalantly.

I roll eyes. "Anyways, me and Lily got to go home now. Thanks again Spencer. I really appreciate it." I exclaim, forgetting about call of duty.

"Yea, no problem kitten, bye." He replies, looking at me for a sec, then turns his head back to the tv screen.

Lily and I get home a minute later. I make some chocolate chip cookies for us, since they are her favourite.

I then make us supper. Chicken, carrots and rice. She likes that as well.

I walk upstairs and open the door to my room. My eyes widened at what I see.

Hey guys! Short authors note...

So picture at the top is of our favourite genius Jessica Michaels. She will be played by Johanna Braddy. It was a hard decision between her and Dove Cameron.

Let me know if I made the right decision. Johanna Braddy or Dove Cameron as Jess?
