Chapter 1

A New Beginning

Rei looked outside her limo's glassy window as it make its way towards the elite Ouran Academy. She wears an expressionless yet bored look on her face, clearly not eager to go to a school.

Thinking of a new school makes her feel annoyed and restless, but no one really notices unless you observe her closely. Not that anyone even cared about her feelings though.

She brushed her hand through her short white hair. Many people that she have met said she look like a guy and so she completely let go of her girlishness and pretend to be a boy. By far, it was very comfortable and less of a hassle, and so she was known to be male to the whole world.

"Rei-sama, we're here," the driver's gruff voice said through the small rectangular window.

Rei got out of her limo and looked up to her substitutive school. It was pink, much to her disgust. Although it was a pale pink, she can tolerate it at some degree.

A few other students stopped walking and talking and looked at her direction. All at once chatter broke through the forming crowd.

"Isn't he that very popular CEO in TV?"

"Kyah!!!~ It's him!"

"I didn't know he's still studying..."

"I heard he was too intelligent he can pass for a college student!"

Rei sighed, expecting the attention that was given to him, and entered the repugnantly pink academy. It was a lot bigger than she imagined it to be. The school grounds were filled with splendid fountains and aesthetic roses. The gardens looked perfect for picnics. There was a peaceful aura despite the noise made by the students who were conversing with each other as they wandered through the halls.

She entered the superintendent's office after being greeted by several obnoxious girl students she cannot recognize the faces. The superintendent was reading important looking files when she entered.

"Ah! Rei-kun!" Mr. Suou greeted with a spark in his eyes as soon as he recognized Rei's presence. Rei gave him a small smile.

"Oji-chan. I came here for my schedule that you forgot to send...?"

"Oh right! Its somewhere around here... there!" He handed Rei a small booklet after running through some documents in his drawer. "Rei-kun, do you plan on joining any clubs?"

"Well... I plan on joining the Judo club, if you don't mind."

"Of course. But would you like to join my son's club?" Mr. Suou asked with excitement visible on his face.

"Depends on what it is. I will be going now. See you, Oji-chan."

Rei left the room ignoring the coos of the superintendent.

She sighed once again and looked at her schedule. She was in class 1-A. Probably going to see some familiar faces here and there but they are nothing more than heirs, not owners.

She went to her class while being stalk by a group of very noisy girls.

"Excuse me..." Rei muttered, opening the door to her class. The students ceased on activity and stared at her in either awe or in question.

"You must be the new transferred student. Please introduce yourself," the teacher said with a wide smile.

"Mashida Rei. Nice to meet you," Rei introduced herself in a bored voice. Some girls squealed while others fainted. Rei sighed in annoyance. What was with these girls? They have been squealing a lot since she came to school.

"Okay Mashida-kun, you may seat at the table beside the window." the teacher kindly offered. Rei muttered a small thank you and scanned the room.

There was a girl in boy's uniform seating in between ginger-headed twins. She stared at her for while before making her way to her seat.

One good thing about today was having a seat next to the window, Rei thought. She walked in a normal speed, ignoring the stares and whispers of her brand new classmates.

"I'm Haruhi. Nice to meet you," Haruhi introduced as she was passing by. Rei stopped for a moment then nodded at the brown haired girl.

"Nice to meet you."

She proceeded to sit on her seat and stared outside the window.

"Now then class, open your textbooks in page 364..."

Just as the bell rang, the students stood up quickly and made their way to Rei. Rei, annoyed and exhausted with the teacher's questions and quizzes, made her way through the boisterous crowd and walked the halls towards the school's garden. Turns out, it was the only quiet place in the whole school where she may read her book and enjoy soltitude.

Arriving at the garden, she settled underneath a big oak tree overlooking the rose maze. She sat down on the grass and produced the book she was reading from her bag, sighing as she relaxed her body on the trunk.

The book was about a girl and a boy being hopelessly in love that they did everything for each other even if it is to kill someone. She knows that in the end the girl dies but she still reads the book.

After about ten pages, someone stood in front of her. She looked up and saw Haruhi.

"This looks like a peaceful place to study. May I sit?" Haruhi asked politely.

"Go ahead," Rei answered, uneasy for the sudden company.

"Thank you." She sat down and opened her own book, which is, a textbook. "I've been searching for a peaceful place to study since I entered Ouran, but I just found this."

Rei merely nodded and continued to read her book.

Haruhi was good company. She was quiet and asked non-personal questions. It was a nice afternoon till the bell rang and they have to go back to their classes.
