First day Jitters
new home, new school: lets gooooo
---
Bradley stood at the front door of his family's new house.
It was moderately sized, with a hunter-green exterior and some small bushes planted along the walls, bringing a little life into the cold atmosphere of the town.
The family had moved in a couple of days ago, giving them enough time to adjust to their new life. But all that 'relaxation time', as his parents called it, was over. It was the first day of school and, as any kid would be, Bradley was nervous.
Scratch that, he was terrified.
Sure, moving to a new school shouldn't be enough to terrify a kid, but still. Even by being in this town for a few days, Bradley could already sense how the kids here worked.
He saw the cliques of kids hanging around on the sidewalks; saw the different groups walking about, playing kick the can along the empty streets. He could already tell that they all had formed tight groups, bonds that would be hard to join in on.
Time seemed to slow the longer he stood at the door, the weight of his plain black backpack starting to get slightly heavier as the seconds ticked by. The taste of his fingernail against his tongue filled his senses as he stared down the still empty hallway of his new home. When had he started biting his nail, he didn't know, the old habit had become second nature to him to the point where he wouldn't even question when his body moved to fulfill the action.
His parents were sure taking their sweet time. Sure he could walk to school, it wasn't likely to be far, after all in this small town practically everything was within walking distance from everywhere, but his parents had insisted they dropped him on his first day.
'It would be better if I wasn't late for my first day...' Bradley thought bitterly as he checked his phone for the time.
10 minutes.
That's cutting it too close for his taste, after all, he still had to figure out where his classroom was, not having been blessed with a school tour yet.
Finally, he saw his mom walk through the hallway, followed by his dad. His mother swatted his hand away from his mouth, giving him a warning look before opening the front door and heading to the car.
Bradley just followed through the motions, his mind too occupied with all the worries of what's to come. Before he knew it he was at the school, waving his parents goodbye before making his way into the building.
5 minutes.
He still had time. Was 5 minutes too little time or too much, he did not know. All he knew was that he needed to find his classroom.
After aimlessly wandering around the halls with his face buried into his schedule, he found his class: room 134.
Bradley took a deep breath before finally stepping through the door.
