Chapter 6 - The Preparation

Becca's POV

I went to the melee weapons chest to grab a sword. I stopped when I thought about my arm.

Can I even still fight melee?

Maybe you should spar with Nick.

Yeah.

I pulled 2 katanas from the chest and walked over to Nick. He had finished explaining my situation to Jin, who had gone to the Misc. chest for something.

Nick turned to me and glanced at the swords. "What's up?"

I pulled up the sleeve on my right arm and showed the bite to Nick. The teeth marks were still visible, and the skin was a bit puffy and red. It ached, but it didn't hurt, for obvious reasons.

Nick studied it for a bit. "So that's where you got bit? Your melee arm?" I nodded and handed him a katana. Without waiting for a reaction, I grabbed his free hand and pulled him to the oval office.

I stopped in the middle of the room and turned to Nick. He had his confused face.

I rolled my eyes and got into attack stance, my katana tight in my right hand.

Understanding appeared on Nick's face. Without a word, he also got into an attack stance.

"Ready?" I nodded.

"Go!" He launched at me, attempting to hit my left side. I swung my katana to my left, blocking it. I jumped back swiftly, causing Nick to stumble a bit. I let him regain his balance before swiping at his right side. He blocked it and spun his katana around mine, causing me to wince and lose my grip. The katana flew to the right and hit the wall with a bang. Nick put his katana under my chin. "I win."

I smirked.

Not yet you haven't.

I fell backwards and rolled to my left, away from my weapon. I jumped up and looked around the room for anything within reach. There was nothing.

Nick and I waltzed back and forth. Anytime I tried to get by, he blocked me off. "You can stop at anytime." He reminded me.

No. I need to refresh my muscle memory on my right arm. It's achy, but I can ignore that.

I shook my head and eyed the doorway to the office. Shark and Ghetto were watching me with slightly amused faces.

What if you rushed the right and swiftly turned left?

That might work.

I looked at my katana, which was lying horizontal to the wall about 6 feet behind Nick.

I rushed to the right, catching Nick slightly off guard. He thrust his sword in front of me. He expected me to stop and jump back. Instead, I took a hard left around Nick and dove for my sword. I grabbed it with my right hand and jumped up, ready to fight.

Nick raised an eyebrow. "Nice move, but we ain't done yet." He swung at me, attempting to disarm me. I blocked it and spun my katana around his, causing him to lose his grip. Instead of whacking it in a random direction, I flicked it up and towards me. I caught it neatly in my left hand. I crossed the swords over Nick's neck like scissors. I smirked as he stared at the swords and me, not daring to move. "Heh, I think you'll do fine in melee." He stated.

I smiled warmly and backed off, tossing Nick's katana to the ground.

Ok...so we know you're doing fine in melee.

I don't know what that was. That just kinda happened. Heh.

Ghetto and Shark were clapping. I raked my hand through my hair and started putting my katana on my side.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pang in my head, and I blacked out.

3rd POV

Becca fell to the floor, moaning.

Becca? BECCA?

Nick ran over to Becca but kept his distance. "Becca? What's wrong?"

Becca stopped moaning and began snarling. She whipped her head up and leapt at Nick. Her eyes were a dull white.

Nick's eyes went wide. He jumped to the side as 'Becca' bit the air his shoulder was in just moments before.

"SHARK! GHETTO! LITTLE HELP!?" Nick yelled.

Ghetto and Shark ran over as 'Becca' began pulling herself off the floor.

BECCA! SNAP OUT OF IT!

Ghetto grabbed the arm with the cuffs on them. As 'Becca' struggled, Ghetto searched frantically around the room for something to cuff her to. He saw a pole bolted to the ground behind the desk. He didn't question it as he and Shark dragged 'Becca' over to it. 'Becca' had no idea what was going on besides the fact that her meal was fighting back.

They cuffed her to the pole and jumped back.

'Becca' glanced slightly at the cuffs before tugging hard on it. She was so close to her meal.

.................NO!

'Becca' shrieked before falling to the ground.

AK and Jin ran in after hearing all the banging.

"What's with...OH MY GOD!" Jin exclaimed. He ran over to 'Becca', who was panting on the floor. He knelt down beside her and placed a hand on her back.

She coughed roughly and stared up at Jin, horror clear in her gray eyes.

Becca's POV

I stared up at Jin in horror. When I had opened my eyes, I saw my cuff attached to a pole.

Nononono, it happened again! What's triggering it!?

...

...

I sat up and pulled my key from my pocket. I unlocked the cuff on the pole and stood up, shaking.

Nick, Shark, and Ghetto were all on the floor a few feet away, watching me with worry. AK was standing in the doorway.

I took one look at them before running out of the room. AK tried to stop me, but I shoved past him.

Gotta keep myself busy. Gotta keep myself busy.

I ran to the storage room and began packing up for the journey. I had left my katana in the office, so I grabbed a pack, NV goggles, and an extra pair of handcuffs. Never know when ya need them.

I grabbed a katana and a machete from the melee chest, a 7 mm gun with 4 extra clips and a silencer from the gun chest, and some apples and water from the food chest.

I placed the silencer on the gun and watched with mild interest as they merged together.

(Ahh...Crafting Dead logic)

I holstered my gun and placed my katana on my back. I was about to walk out of the room when Ghetto walked in.

"Becca, that wasn't your fault and you know it."

Becca, it really wasn't.

Rebekitah, I think we need to search Becca's mind for this...thing.

Good idea.

Without another word, I felt their presence fade.

Ghetto came over and hugged me. "Don't worry, Becca. We're watching over you. At least, when we can."

He suddenly backed away and began searching for something from his pack. "You know what you need right now?"

I was mildly confused as he pulled a can from his pack and tossed it to me.

When I read the label, I laughed out loud.

Typical Ghetto.

It was peaches.
