As time passes Part 1
Andrew Garfield as Remus Lupin (As a mid 20 year old) It fits better with his age for the books. Remus was in his mid-thirties for the books but looked older in the movies.
The man was Lyall Lupin, father to Remus Lupin. He was often a man who was considered to be shy and withdrawn. He had just recently lost his wife to the Wizarding War, and his son was off somewhere unknown in his grief. Lyall had become a hollow shell of a man, from the man he once was when his wife was around. He had heard Remus talking about the young girl who had no one to care for her before he left their home distraught by the loss of his friends. Lyall knew that he could care for her, because he felt as alone as she was. The minister gave in and granted his wish, after a few days and talking to his advisors on if this would be the best place for the young girl. When everything was finally decided and the girl moved in with Lyall, he had several visitors.
In the beginning few weeks, his co-workers stopped including Amos Diggory, his wife, and their son Cedric. Mrs. Diggory made it a point to stop by once a week with Cedric to check on Lyall and Elena, which he would constantly inform her it wasn't necessary. Molly and Arthur Weasley and their six boys and one newborn daughter came as well to check on Amos and offer any help, which he declined.
With the welcoming of the new year, Remus Lupin had decided to check in on his father and come home to stay. Remus arrived and opened the door in the mid-afternoon, and saw the 4 years old girl whom he had only met a handful of times during the war. When he saw the young girl, he couldn't speak, only staring at the young girl who looked up at him. Her hair changed from her black locks to a chocolate brown like his. He was simply in awe, and no amount of words could describe his emotions. He felt grief, that was definite, but he also felt guilt, despair, betrayal, anger, and heartbreak. He could see so much of his friends in the young girl. He knew he couldn't blame her for her father's crimes. He could only imagine what Sophia would be saying right now knowing what he was thinking. He could also and quite painfully feel her smacking him upside the head like she used to when they were at Hogwarts. Rubbing the back of his head he looked to his father. After getting settled in the house he told his father he was here to stay, and went back to the living room to discuss more with his father.
"She looks just like them," Remus told his father.
"Yes, but she has many personality traits from her mother. She had no one else to take her in, Remus. I couldn't let her be alone when she had a family. Even if you didn't trust Sirius in the end, she still needs a family's love. Soph wouldn't want her without that. She and Sirius picked you to be her godfather, and I know that you couldn't take guardianship of her. But I can still take her in, and you can see her as much as you want," Lyall told his son. He could see the look of guilt and sadness on his son's face, knowing that his father was right.
Both father and son knew that if the laws didn't stop Remus because of his condition, he legally would have custody of the small child. That hurt so much more than his guilt of not helping the child when her mother passed protecting Agatha, who had been severely ill and needed Sophia's care. He vowed then to watch out for her like her mother did for him for years prior.
As Elena grew up she was always wanting to pick up a book and learn something new, much like her mother. Remus was always quick to make sure she understood what she had learned before moving onto a new lesson. This often frustrated Elena, which then caused her problems with controlling her magic. The young girl was definitely her mother's child in those moments. That woman when angry was a force to be reckoned with. Strangely she married a man who knew how to push all of her buttons and take her anger with a smile and chuckle. It was moments like that when Remus truly missed his friends. He was the only one left from his group, and he was currently surrounded by the best combination of some of his friends.
Sometimes when he was alone, he wonders how things would have been if Sophia hadn't died. Would Sirius have still betrayed them? Would Lily and James still be alive? Would Harry and Elena be best of friends and even become even more mischievous than him and his friends? Then he begins to wonder about Harry, and how he was doing. Were Lily's sister and her husband treating him good? Was he showing magical abilities? How did he look? Was he a mirror image of James or Lily? When these thoughts plagued him, he would grow into a bottomless pit of depression, which would never last long because he would have a visitor in his room in the middle of the night. His little pup always seemed to know when he was hurting, and always slid into bed with Remus telling him that everything will be okay. Even in the dark he could see her smile, the same smile he had enjoyed seeing all those years ago.
During the years of her growth, Albus Dumbledore had come on occasion to check on his past lover's great-granddaughter, along with assessing the girl's abilities. He had thought at one time placing a small spell to lock some of the magic away, but had decided it would do too much harm to the child. It would risk her becoming an Obsurus, which would be terrible on the wizarding world. Albus had devised several tasks over the years for the girl to complete each morning. Tasks that would help to drain her magic, until she could get a wand and begin using it to funnel her magic. He had taught Remus, Lyall, and Elena these exercises and made her promise to do this every day. Which she did and she faithfully kept this promise to the Headmaster.
