Chapter 50!
I pound at the doors until Daryl tells me "Quit it. It's no use." He shrinks into the far corner of the black van. I can hear the tears in his voice. I know he's trying to stay calm, but I cry too.
I stop hitting the door with bloody knuckles and fall onto the floor against the wall and hold my knees to my chest.
"What'd we do, Daryl." I squeak.
He clears his throat. "Everything."
I stare at the wall. My plan failed. They didn't see my dog tags, they didn't get the warning. If only I had tried harder to warn them.
"We have to find a way out of here." I whisper.
"They'll kill us." He grumbles.
"Can you try and be optimistic?"
"Be optimistic?" He echos, his voice rising in anger. "That man just killed Glenn all cause of me!"
I sigh. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." I shake my head. "I just ment that we need to find a way to get out of this van before we get to... wherever we're going."
"There isn' a way. Trust me. They got a car behind us. Listen."
I strain to hear what he's talking about, and sure enough I hear the rumbling of a car tailgating the van, making sure we don't escape.
"Now what? We just comply to his orders? He'll kill us." I groan and let my head fall into my hands.
"He'll use us." Daryl says it in a way that's not ok. Like 'well we're not dying yet, but we will probably wish we were dead' kind of way. We fall into silence for the rest of the ride.
The van lurches to a stop, causing me to fall to my side and smacks my head against the tire hump. "Ow." I groan.
The door opens up, letting in a blinding ray of sun. I shield my eyes and blink a few times until my eyes adjusted and I could actually see the man's hand trying to grab me. I Jump back in shock and this makes the random man mad. "Out." He says harshly with an annoyed look on his face.
I climb out and someone immediately grabs my elbow. I spin around to see Simon smiling down at me. "Ready for your first round?"
"My what?" I spit out.
"Tell Daryl there goodbye." Simon nudges his chin in Daryl's direction.
"Touch her-" Daryl threatens but is cut off by Simon.
"What kind of sick people do you think we are? We're just going to do an experiment is all." I spin aournd and look at Simon in disbelief. Did I just hear him correctly? He tugs on my elbow. "Come along."
I try to resist, but his grip only tightens until I feel his nails dig into my skin. I give up and finally take a look at where we are. It's a giant, fenced in, mill. Walkers are attached to the fence by either chains or poles which I find quite sick, and not in the good way. "Where are we?" I ask Simon.
He glances up at the building with a smile under his mustache. "Welcome to the Sanctuary! Home of the Saviors!" He spreads his arm that he isn't holding me with out in a presenting gesture.
"Take a good look," Someone says from behind. I turn my head to the side to see Negan had caught up to us. "Cause this is going to be your new home!"
"Like hell it is." I mumble under my breath.
"Oh ho!" Negan exclaims. "You won't even remember your damn name when we're through with you. Take her to the back room where doctor Carson is waiting." He instructs. Simon nods and pushes me to walk faster.
Someone opens the door for us as we enter. It's a big, open, area that seperates into some little rooms and stair cases. People crowd the back of the open part with stands. Selling stuff I guess.
Simon whistles loudly to get everyones attention as Negan walks in the door and everyone kneels down. Negan chuckles and then orders them to stand. "I'll take her from here." He tells Simon and grabs my arm. I roll my eyes at the dramatic performance these people put on.
Negan leads me up a flight of stairs and through some halls to a room that looks like a doctor's office. "Sit." He points at a chair near the examination table. I sit and eyeball the menacing looking tools near it.
A doctor guy walks in in a rush and quickly bows down to Negan, but doesn't wait for Negan to tell him to get up which makes Negan sigh in annoyance. The doctor rolls his eyes with his back to Negan.
"Lauren, this is Dr. Carson. Dr. Carson, Lauren." Negan introduces us. We both glance at eachother with sassy expressions.
"Welp, I suggest you try not to resist otherwise we will kill you." Negan threatens me as he begins to head for the door. "And do your job right Dr. Carson. We don't want her to remember anything that will affect her fighting for us."
"Yes sir." Dr. Carson mumbles and then fills a shot up with some murkey, brown liquid. He rolls his eyes at my obvious cringe when he turns around holding the needle. "Take off your sweater." I hesitate which makes him close his eyes and princh the bridge of his nose. "Trust me, some days I wonder why we do the things we do."
I don't have time to ask what's going on before he shoves the needle in my arm. I hiss at the pain of the needle piercing my skin, but it doesn't affect me at first. But then it hits me like a ton of bricks.
My whole body feels like it's on fire. I can't scream in pain because my throat even burns and my body won't let me pass out. I gasp for breathes but even those feel like flames.
"Carl, go check on Judith please." I hear Rick say. I try and look for them, to ask them to help me, but they aren't there. All that's there is a stereo.
"Yeah sure dad." Carl says.
I hate this. I want him to shut it off. I want the pain to go away.
"Oi! Austin!" Dylan yells. Then it changes to Morgan. Then Michonne. Then Aaron. Then Kennedy. It goes through every single person in Alexandria. Making me listen to their voices as the pain grows worse with each person. Then the voices stop and so does the pain.
I slump down in the chair. "Please." I whimper to Dr. Carson. He ignores me and calls for someone to get me.
Dwight comes in and I expect him to grab my arm or my collar to drag me to a cell of some sort. Instead he gently pulls me up and helps me walk out the door and up a set of stairs. The rest of the way is a daze, but before I know it we're at a door. He unlocks it and reveals a normal looking room. It has a bed, a nightstand, a chair, and even a dresser.
He helps me walk to the bed and then walks out, locking the door behind him without a word. I'm too tired to even think about what's going on and lay down on the soft bed, a definite upgrade from the freezer.
I never want to experience that again.
