Chapter 47
I look around for a way out, some way out of this awful predicament. The walkers have all gathered around the single shelving unit and I worry that they're going to topple it over
I look one more time up at the window, hoping that this was all a threat to get me to talk. Surely they can't kill me, I'm the only lead they have. Or am I?
Simon and Negan watch me, Simon looks worried, but Negan looks unamused as far as my already blurry vision can tell. I look around the giant factory for a way out. I notice that one of the walkers below me has a black machine gun strapped to her back, I don't know if it has any bullets in it, but right now I'm desperate to try anything.
I look to my left and notice a meat hanger on the shelf, which wouldn't make sense since this was a shipping factory and none of the machines would have meat hooks. But I grab it anyways and lay on my stomach so that I'm slightly hanging over the edge of the shelf and try to use the hook to grab the strap of the gun on the walkers shoulder.
The walkers get even more riled up and the unit starts to shake a little. I lean a bit further to latch the hook onto the strap as the shelves shake even more, leaning back and forth until finally I feel it tip forward, taking me with it. I jump off, pushing my foot off the shelf I was on, and land on the one across from it. But of course the first one created a domino effect and that one started to tip.
I jumped across to a few more shelving units until I reached the last one. It felt like it went down in slow motion as my brain whirled to find a way off safely. All the machines were too far away to jump to and there was nothing underneath me to jump onto. So without thinking, I just jumped.
I fell for a few feet and landed badly on my foot just as the unit hit the ground. The surviving walkers begin to advance towards me, but it hurts when I try to get up and walk on my right foot. I don't think it's broken but more sprained than anything.
I limp away as fast as I can and turn around to see if they were catching up. The walker with the gun grabs at me a couple feet away. My boot hits another glass shard and I quickly pick it up, breaking it in half to make it sharper. I wait for the walker with the gun to come to me and then stab it with the glass shard which again breaks. I quickly pull on the strap of the gun, trying to get it off of her as more walkers come after me. A couple walkers reach me and before the first one bites my arm I get the gun off and slam the butt of the gun into his skull, smashing it, and do the same to the next one.
I pray that it has enough bullets to get me out of this mess and pull the trigger which sticks the first time from all the gunk and mud stuck in it. I clean it out with the, sharp, broken part of my zipper on my sweater and try again. This time a spray of bullets got the first few walkers and allows me to have some room between the wall and me so I'm not totally cornered.
I shoot a couple more walkers and go to shoot some more when it clicks. Empty. I quickly examine the walkers as they come closer, hoping that some will have weapons still on them. I spot a glimmer of what I hope is a machete on a walker a couple of walkers behind. I walk up to them and hit them in the head with the back end of the machine gun until I get to the walker. I reach him and he looks fairly fresh, which is another reason why his machete is so clean. I bash him in the head and take the machete out of its holder.
The adrenaline pulses through me as I ready myself with the machete and let the walkers come to me. I keep enough distance between me and the wall so I can run if I have to.
It's all a blur as I kill one walker after another. I know I have to be tired from lack of food and water and running for an hour, but I don't feel it. I just keep on slicing one at a time until there are none left. I feel the machete fall from my hand and my knees hit the ground as I look upon the bloody mess. I had to have killed about thirty, not including those trapped under the shelves.
That's when the exhaustion hits me. All I want to do know is to curl up and sleep for ages and get food. But I find the energy to get up on my feet and walk across the medium sized factory until I stand in front of the window and look up to see Negan's smiling face.
He slowley claps which echos throughout the factory. "Well. Done." He pronounces each word for effect. "But you're not done until you spill the beans. Let the cat out. Of. The. Damn. Bag."
Before I can say a smart remark, a man walks in and tells Negan something. Negan looks down at me and smiles an even bigger smile. "Well, would you look at that. Looks like we're going on a field trip!" He turns to his bat, Lucille. "It's an all you can eat buffet, Lucille!" Without turning away from his bat, he talks to Simon. "Simon, get her out of there so we can leave."
Simon looks down at me and then over at the dead body, which I now realize is Burly man, and smiles. He bounds out the door. A minute later I hear the door clank open and Simon waits for me. I refuse to stand up, not even having enough energy to, which apparently annoys Simon because he strides over and drags me up by my elbow. He half drags me to the door and through a crowd of people until we reach a side door. It leads to what seems like a parking lot with a few cars in it. Simon throws open the door of a silver Honda and shoves me towards the door. I glare at him as I reluctantly get in and close the door myself, almost smashing Simon's fingers, causing him to swear at me and I smirk a little. He opens the door for Negan who comes out the side door and closes it once he's in.
"Here," he hands me Lucille. "Make sure you put her seat belt on. I want her to be safe and sound."
I stare at him in disbelief. This man has to be crazy or something. He looks back at me as Simon gets in the driver's seat and silently directs me to buckle Lucille in the seat next to me. I sigh and place Lucille upright in the seat next to me, the barbed wire tearing up the seat, and click the seat belt in.
Simon starts the car and takes off down a road. I try and fight sleep, wanting to see where we are going, but I lose and eventually drift off.
