Chapter 2

A/N: OMG GUYS!!! Tonight's episode was epic!!! I was sobbing at the part where *SPOILERS*

YOU WERE WARNED..........

I was sobbing at the part where Carl gets his eye shot out! 😭 It's hard writing this rn!! OMG 😭😭😭😢😢😢😢 My baby!!!

I wake up and forget where I am for a second. Soft morning light filters through the soft pink curtains that hang on either side of the big window.

I slide out of the covers and slip my converse back on. I slide my axe into my belt and quickly brush through my hair and put it into a ponytail.

I wander down stairs and grab a can of peaches out of my bag and slowly eat them while looking out the window. It was a clear day and little puffs of white clouds dotted the sky. The birds were chirping and a nice breeze blew through the trees. It seemed almost normal until a Walker walked down the road. I sighed and threw away my can.

Carl comes into the kitchen and grabs a bag of stale cereal. "Morning." He mumbles.

"Mornin'. Sleep good? "

"Eh. Nightmares didn't exactly help. " he says while pouring the cereal into a pristine white bowl.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" I ask, sitting in front of him.

"I'm going on a run. If you wanna come, I can explain on the way." He shoves a spoon full of dry cereal into his mouth.

"What about your dad?" I point towards the living room.

"I figured I'd let him rest. He's been through a lot." He shoots a mean look at the doorway to the living room.

"Oh. I'll go with you." I nod. He puts his bowl in the sink with a soft clank.

"We'll be back by night fall. Let me just grab my gun." He says and runs to the living room. I grab my bag off the kitchen floor and meet Carl by the back door.

He opens the door and pokes his head out, looking for Walkers. He waves a hand and steps outside. I follow him out.

It's way better than yesterday. It's still hot out, but a breeze would come by every once in a while.

Carl tells me to stay put and then peeks around the house to the front door. He runs up to the walkway and I follow his lead. He whistles to the walkers.

"What the hell are you doing?" I whisper yell at him.

"Attracting the Walkers and leading the away. " he smugly smiles.

"You're going to get us killed." I hiss. He starts walking backwards as the Walkers follow him. He trips over the curb and stumbles before gaining his balance again. I roll my eyes at him and pull my axe out just in case.

He continues to walk backwards along the road. I shake my head and walk next to him facing forward. He turns and leads the two walkers plus five more between two houses. One comes towards me and I chop it in the head.

Carl screams and I hear gunshots. I run towards him and find him under a pile of dead Walkers. I help him out. "You OK? " I ask frantically. "Were you bit?" I check his arms and neck.

He holds up a hand and then bends over and vomits. I turn my head away and crinkle my nose.

He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and I hand him a water bottle.

"Sorry." He says and takes the water bottle.

"It's cool." I reply and slide my axe back into my belt. I point to a house across the sreet. "We should check out that one."

Carl nods and follows me . We make it up to the door and Carl grabs a lawn light.  He then charges at the door and rams into it with his shoulder. He falls on his back and moans.

"Nice going slick." I chuckle.

He gets up. " shut up!" He mumbles.

"Hold on, I got this. Can I borrow your gun?" He hands me his black gun and I hold the chamber part and Strike down on the doorknob with the butt of the gun. I do this two more times till the knob falls off.

I give Carl a smug look and he rolls his eyes.

I clank my axe on the metal part of the door and wait for any Walkers to come up to it. When they don't we walk in. We head to the kitchen and empty out the cabinets. Carl gets up on a chair and grabs something off of the top shelf.

"Awesome! " he laughs. He holds a 112 ounce can of pudding with the biggest smile on his face. He grabs two spoons and smiles at me.

I laugh. "After we clear the house." He chuckles and sets it on the table.

We walk upstairs and I check the master bedroom. There was nothing worth taking really so I walk out the door and suddenly hear a growling sound behind me. I turn but it was too late, the Walker was on top of me and I couldn't reach my axe. I screamed and Carl came running out of the room. He knocked it in the head, but not hard enough. I scrambled up and we both stumbled away, my axe fell out of my belt during the struggle and now lays behind the walker, who is getting up.

We slowley walk backwards as the Walker approaches us. We hit a door and I open it. The Walker follows us in and Carl pushes it to the ground. It grabs Carl's foot and knocks him to the ground.

I pull Carl up as he kicks off his shoe. We run out the room and slam the door shut. The walker angrily claws at the door.

Carl picks something off the ground and I retrieve my axe and slip it back into my belt. I return to where Carl writes on the door with a piece of chalk.

Walker inside
Got my shoe
didn't get me!
-Carl and Lauren

"Nice." I chuckle and he looks at his masterpiece.

"Lets eat!" He exclaims and runs down stairs to retrieve the can.

We end up sitting on the overhang of the porch and eat the pudding while the Walker in the room tries to get at us through the window. Carl found some new boots that fit him.

"So are we like friends now?" I ask Carl.

"I guess." He shrugs. "It's not every person you fight with and end up saving each others lives. Oh, " he holds up the can. "And share a 112 ounce pudding with!" We both laugh and it feels like everything is gonna be alright.

"So how did you survive so long?" Carl asks me.

"In the first year I was with my family. We stayed at a camp which eventually got overrun and me and like four others got out. We stuck together and found a new group, but they killed the others and I ran away. I just wandered around after that." I explain and shove another spoon full of pudding in my mouth. "How about you?"

"In the beginning my mom and I stayed at this camp just outside of Atlanta, my dad was in a hospital in a coma. He found us and stayed for a a few months before our camp got overrun. We went to the CDC but that ended badly and lived in a sucky rv until I got shot and we found a farm. Hershal, the owner, let us stay until that got overrun. Then we found the prison. But then the Governer of Woodburry destroyed it."

"Wow. Exciting adventure."

"Not really. Sometimes I wonder if one thing changed, if one person wasn't there, would our fate be different. "

I look up at the setting sun. "Come on philosopher, it's getting dark and we're all out of pudding. " I climb down the gutter pipe and Carl follows me.

We walk back to the house where Rick is and I head upstairs. Soon after I organize my bag, I hear yelling downstairs. I creep down to the bottom steps and listen.

"I saved you! I still know how to fight! Unlike you! You had us playing farmer when we could've been training. I saved you! Something you couldn't do! Hershal! Maggie! Glenn! Daryl! Sasha! Tyresse! Carol! Judith!" He stops and takes a shaky breath. "Mom." He whispers. "I saved you! I'd be okay if you died!" He yells again. I decide now is the time to calm him down. I hop off the stairs and rush to Carl.

"Stop yelling at him!"

"Why? He can't hear me!"

"He's still your dad! He's still your family! You can't blame him for this stuff! Trust me!" I shout at him. "Me? I don't have family! I don't have family." I look at the ground and tears fall down my face.

Carl wipes them away. "Hey, hey, hey. Don't cry. I'm sorry." He starts tearing up too. "I'm sorry. "

I hug him. "Please forgive him." I whisper.

He hugs back. "I'll try." He whispers back.

We hug for about three minutes until I stop crying. I sit on the floor and Carl sits next to me. It's dark out now and only moonlight filters in. "You never told me about your nightmare."

"Oh. Well, it was when the prison got destroyed. I was the only one left. My friends and family lay dead around me. The Governer laughed at me and made me stab all of them in the head. One by one. Then I woke up. " he looks down to the ground.

"It's just a nightmare."

Jeez, I could've been a freaking counsler! Really? It'd just a nightmare? You've had these types of nightmares that don't let you sleep and you wake up in a cold sweat and crying.

"I wish I could believe that when I have them." He says.

I give him a small smile and look at Rick. He's been uncouncious for two days now. A horrible thought came to mind and my smile faltered. What if he's dead?

Carl sees my smile go away. "What? Whats wrong? "

"Carl, it's been-" a sudden flick of Ricks hand caught Carl's and my attention.

It happens again and this time his whole arm twitches. Carl and I scramble back against the coffee table.

Rick slides off the couch and a Walkerish moan escapes his lips. Carl raises his gun as Rick crawls over to us. I bury my head in Carl's shoulder, sobbing. Carl sobs and I hear him drop his gun.

"Just do it." He whimpers and puts his face in my hair.

"Carl." Rick moans. I snap my head up and almost don't believe it. "Carl, I'm not g- gonna hurt y-you son." He passes out again.

Carl puts Ricks head in his lap and cries. "I'm so scared." He whispers and I hug him.

We end up falling asleep like that with our backs against the wall.

A/N: 😢 I'm still crying! That can't happen to him! His beautiful blue eye!!

I didn't know where a good place to stop was, so it's kinda sucky ending.

Stay in the salt circle Niall, so the walkers don't get ya!
