Chapter 26

Lapis and I walked across the hall until we reached the doors to the rest of the chambers, where the rest of the Crystal Gems were. The bluenette looked over at me with a calm expression on her face, but her hands shook a little. "You okay?" I whispered. "Yeah... I uhm... just haven't..." her voice trailed off as she looked down at her gun. "You haven't what?" I asked her, tilting my head a little. "In order to get out of this for good we're gonna have to kill all of these gang members...I haven't... killed this many people at once in almost five years..." she said in a shaky voice.

"I feel like that was a different person back then... for some reason I feel like it's gonna be much more difficult to do this now..." she explained, still staring down at the gun. Did the Crystal Gems really change her that much? Or...did I change her? "Now I know you don't wanna do this as much as you probably wanted to back then, but just for this moment...think about how much these guys have hurt you in the past, how miserable they made you when they locked you up with those corruptions...how badly they hurt me..." I told her, gripping my gun firmly.

Lapis breathed in through her nose slowly, then exhaled through her mouth. She nodded and furrowed her eyebrows, holding her gun upward. "Okay." she pressed her ear on the door, and her eyes went wide. "Pearl's in there. We gotta get in there now." she said, making sure her gun was loaded. Lapis knocked loudly on the door, and took a step back. She signaled for me to shrink away somewhere, so I pressed my back against the wall right next to the door, so the member wasn't able to spot me right away.

After a few moments, the door slowly opened, and Lapis casually stood there with her gun sitting loosely in her hands. "What?" the Topaz asked in a deep voice. "Is there anyone else in there besides Pearl?" Lapis asked. "Nah. Why?" Topaz replied. Lapis shrugged and pursed her lips. "Mm. No reason." she then raised her gun up and the flash of the bullets blinded me for a moment. The sound startled me, so I flinched and my shoulders shot up. As soon as the round ended, I opened my eyes and peeked over the corner. Topaz's bloodied body laid there sprawled out, and I gulped.

Lapis stepped over Topaz, and I did the same and followed. We ran up to Pearl, and she gave us an urgent look. "L-Lapis?" she looked at her, clearly afraid. "Hi." Lapis gave a small grin, looking a little guilty. "Don't worry, she's on our side." I said as I began to untie her arms and legs from the chair. We quickly walked out of the chamber into the hall once again, with Pearl following.

"Pearl, I need you to go to that utility closet over there and load up." Lapis explained, pointing to the utility closet that we had just snuck off to. "But please be careful. Take my jacket and pretend to be one of the Pearls here." she said, slipping off her leather jacket and handing it over to Pearl. Pearl nodded, putting on the jacket. It fit her very well, similarly to Lapis, so it was more convincing. I then followed Lapis to the next chamber door, where I assumed either Garnet or Amethyst was behind.

"Hold up, I got this one." I said, and Lapis just gave me a half smile. She chuckled and stepped to the side, letting me approach the door. It didn't look as sturdy as the door to the ultimate torture chamber Steven was in after the trial, so I decided to charge it with my body. I slammed into it full force with my shoulder, and I kept my mouth shut to prevent myself from crying out in pain. Come on Peridot be a MAN. IT LOOKED SUPER FUCKING BAD ASS JUST DON'T CRY. DON'T CRY. The door in fact broke down, and I caught myself from stumbling forward.

I held my gun up, my shoulder still throbbing. It turned out to be Amethyst sitting in the chair, and a Bismuth stood there. The Bismuth was holding a pocketknife in her hand, and she shot her head in my direction. I pointed the heavy weapon at her, and her eyes went wide in response. She took a step back and reached into her back pocket for something. The large woman pulled out a pistol and pointed it at me with a shaky hand. I scoffed and raised an eyebrow, mocking her for thinking she could actually take my gun on with her tiny ass one.

With a pull of the trigger, I painted the back walls with the Bismuth's blood, and she fell backwards onto the hard floor with a loud thud. Amethyst gasped and kicked her legs a little, trying to free herself. Lapis and I ran to her, then I set down my gun and began to untie her arms. Lapis untied her legs, and Amethyst stood up, stretching a little. "Gee thanks, guys. I thought I was gonna die in here." she said, rubbing her wrists. Lapis picked her gun back up and raised an eyebrow. "And uh... no hard feelings?" Amethyst asked, scratching the back of her neck looking up at the bluenette.

"Pffft. We'll see." Lapis said with a slight grin on her face. We all ran out to the halls once again and met up with Pearl. Pearl slipped Laz's jacket off and gave it back to her, while I made sure my next round had enough bullets. Lapis put the jacket back on, and I noticed that Pearl now had one heavy gun in her hand, and two more strapped to her back. "I see we now have Amethyst." Pearl said, turning her back to Amethyst. The short girl approached Pearl and unstrapped a gun from her back, and made sure it was loaded. "Duuuuude siiick!" Amethyst uttered, examining it. "Pearl and Amethyst, I'm gonna need you guys to free Garnet, while Peridot and I start taking out the gang members." Lapis explained, and the two other girls nodded.

Pearl and Amethyst ran over to the next chamber door, and Lapis looked over at me. "Let's go." she said, and I followed her as we ran through the halls. We shot gang members as they passed by, and so far we had taken out about twenty of them. The majority of the gang members were located in the main work room, and that's exactly where we were headed. We took the old rickety elevator that never failed to give me a little anxiety. Before the elevator doors opened, Lapis cleared her throat. "Act natural. Act like you belong here. Once Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl arrive, we'll raise hell." Lapis explained in a low voice. I nodded and kept my grip on my gun.

The doors eventually opened, and we carefully stepped out, walking casually into the room. Lapis looked straight ahead with an expressionless face, so I loosened my walk a little, trying to look as calm as possible. I kept a straight face and held my gun with one hand, making it look like I had no intention of using it any time soon. I didn't worry too much about people recognizing my face, since the majority of the gang members who worked with me in the Diamond Authority are dead now. We halted when we reached a pool table with a bunch of Jaspers. "Ah, Lapis what're you doing here?" one of them asked, looking a little bugged.

"Just observing. You suck at pool, ya know that, right?" Lapis remarked, raising an eyebrow and  side glancing the Jasper. Jasper groaned and shook her head. "You're lucky Yellow Diamond gave you another chan-" Cough! I looked over at the elevator doors and sure enough, there stood the Crystal Gems, excluding Steven. "Welp. Yellow made a mistake." Lapis said, picking her gun up, and shooting the Jasper through the head. I then picked my gun up and started shooting the gang members surrounding us, and I felt a little reckless since I wasn't really aiming. I just knew that I was killing a lot of people.

It gave me a surge of adrenaline, so I started just SPRAYING EVERYONE AROUND ME, excluding Lapis and the rest of the CGs. I felt blood splatter onto my face and clothes, but I didn't care. These bastards hurt me, corrupted Lapis, and almost killed the rest. They're not gonna get away with this. The others began to shoot the members one by one as well, and it was pure panic among them. They all started taking cover, running away, screaming, growling... hell was literally raised. Amethyst then suddenly fall forward onto the floor with a loud grunt, and I gasped, looking down at her.

She held her arm tightly, and blood seemed to spill through. "She's been shot!" I yelled to the others, and I looked straight ahead. Yellow Diamond stood there with a pistol in one hand, and the other hand seemed to be holding a tube type thingy. I then realized it was a detonator when she pressed a button on it, not tearing her terrifying gaze away from me. "EVERYONE TAKE COVER!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, catching Lapis and the Crystal Gems' attention. A large explosion sent Garnet flying backward, hitting a wall hard. She slid down onto her bottom, groaning.

Pearl yanked Amethyst by her uninjured arm and dove behind the nearest table. Lapis shoved me down behind another table and kicked it down with all of her strength. She jolted forward to dive in behind it with me, but something exploded and sent her flying forward right past me. I crouched and held my head in my hands while the rest of the explosions went off. All the loud booms shook through my core, and I heard my own heartbeat.

Once it ended, I slowly uncurled and peeked over the table. Thankfully Pearl and Amethyst were safe, but Garnet seemed unconscious, slumped against the wall. I then looked behind me to check if Lapis was okay, holding my breath. I then exhaled again, seeing she was alive and breathing as she sat up slowly holding her head. I wanted to get up to run over to her, but immediately halted once I spotted Yellow Diamond walking toward her. Where's my gun? I looked around, and noticed it was across the room, and I groaned.

"Tsk tsk tsk... oh, Lapis Lazuli. Will you ever learn?" Yellow Diamond asked, putting her arms behind her back and slowly strutting up to Lapis. Lapis scooted back a little, clearly a bit afraid. "You stay away from me." the bluenette growled. "Look what you've done once again. My gang... all gone." Yellow said sternly through gritted teeth. "You're a disgrace to your mother, you know that?" she said, looking down at Lapis. Lapis looked up at her and furrowed her eyebrows. "Rose Quartz would've taken pride in me for killing off this charade of a gang." Lapis lowly growled.

Yellow Diamond then chuckled, and Laz looked at her in confusion. "I mean your real mother, Lapis." she replied, straightening her posture. "Wh-what do you know about my real mom?! That's none of your damn business!" Lapis shouted, her voice cracking a little. "Oh it is my business if it had to do with one of my closest friends, Lapis." Yellow replied in a calm voice. "Wh-what? What are you talking about?" Lapis asked, her voice a little softer this time. "It wasn't Blue Diamond's intention to recruit you, Lapis. It was all a startling coincidence, actually." Yellow stated.

I listened more, now intrigued. "Blue Diamond gave birth to you, but knew that life in the gang would be too dangerous for you, so she decided to put you up for adoption. She ended up putting you in an orphanage so you'd get to live you life in a better, safer household some day." Yellow explained. Lapis looked at her in awe, and stuttered. "I-I d-d-don't understand...B-Blue Diamond was my... real mother?!" she asked, and her voice was even crackier than before. Yellow Diamond nodded
"Then Rose adopted me..." Lapis said, looking down.

"What a coincidence, hm?! Blue Diamond puts her daughter up for adoption to keep her safe. Her rival gang leader ends up adopting her and putting her in more danger than before, hah." Yellow said in a sarcastic tone of voice. "What's even more funny about the whole thing was that it was no where near Blue's intention to specifically recruit you. Her minions just happened to kidnap you, bringing you back to her... ya know, Blue recognized you right away. But she knew it would put too much stress and confusion into the situation if she told you she was your real mother. So the relationship was kept strictly business-related." Yellow explained, putting a hand on her hip.

Lapis sat there with her knees to her chest, and her hands were buried into her hair, and she looked clearly upset. "Why else did you think Blue Diamond passed the role of gang leader down to you? She wanted her daughter to continue the business... but you just spat on it. You destroyed what your mother created. What do you have to say about yourself?" the intimidating woman asked, leaning down to look down at the bluenette. "I-I had no idea...m-my mother trusted me with this position and I just...I... I'm sorry..." Lapis said, wrapping her arms around her knees, and I could see tears filling her eyes. "I c-can't... I don't know what to th-think..." she uttered. "What a shameful, dishonorable little..." Yellow leaned down lower, "...bitch." I raised my eyebrows, and realized I had to do something. I quietly crawled over to my gun, and reached my arm over as silently as possible.

Lapis buried her face in her knees, and Yellow stood up straight once again. "Look at you. Breaking down. You're weak. Your mother obviously made the wrong choice." she hissed. I stood up quietly, gripping the gun in my hand. I should kill her... she's mentally and emotionally hurting Lapis... I need to do something. Should I? I hadn't realized I was staring at the floor deep in thought until Lapis's loud grunt sounded through my ears. I looked up, and gasped as I saw Yellow holding a pocketknife to the poor girl's neck.

"So, what's your purpose, then? That's right, you don't have one." Yellow purred, pressing the knife further. That's it. I reloaded my gun as fast as possible, and Yellow jerked her head back to look at where the sound came from. Her almost glowing gold eyes sharply gleamed across mine for moment. I held the trigger and felt my whole body vibrate as bullet after bullet pierced through Yellow's body. Lapis immediately scooted and stumbled to the side out of pure fear. Yellow fell backwards, hitting her back on the floor. I stormed up to her and looked down at her lifeless body, covered head to toe in splattered crimson.

I grumbled, then yelled at the top of my lungs as I held the trigger again, obliterating her dead body further. "PERIDOT!!!" I heard Lapis yell over the gunshots and my screaming, but I didn't stop. I kept shooting, not once letting go of the trigger, just watching as her body became more and more damaged and bloodied. I finally stopped when I felt two hands yank on my arm. I stared down at Yellow, breathing heavily and feeling tears fill my eyes. "Peridot, Peridot look at me!" Lapis cried, shaking me. I looked over at her and blinked, letting out a small whimper. "She's dead! Look what you did to her body! I could've gotten more answers out of her!" Lapis said, placing her hands on my shoulders.

I felt my hands shake, and I dropped my gun to the floor. My lip quivered, and my breathing picked up. "But... you did just kill one of the most dangerous people around..." Lapis said in a softer voice. "We need to get the fuck outta here. They're all dead, and I don't wanna stick around." she explained, looking down at Yellow's body with an extremely disturbed expression. "We'll need help carrying Garnet, and to take care of Amethyst's arm when we get back to the house." Pearl suddenly said as she walked up to us alongside Amethyst, who was holding her arm. I nodded, looking at them.

"Y-yeah... okay..."
