Chapter 1 - In Which It Was Only A Matter of Time
You stared blankly down at the letter that now sat on your desktop, unable to will yourself to open it. It had just come from your father's lawyer, and you thought you knew what was inside, but you didn't dare to open it, for fear of what was inside. Finally, you reached for the letter, and tried to rip it open. To your surprise, it opened with little effort, and the contents tumbled over your lap. You placed them back onto your desk, keeping in your hand the letter addressed to you. You didn't know what the other papers were. You unfolded the letter, and began to read.
Dear ____,
The constants of this letter are for your eyes only, as they pertain to the last will and testament of your father,____. Also included within this envelope are the deed to your home, 1215 main avenue, as well the key to your father's bank account.
Wow. That was really formal. No one every called my by my real name, they all just called me Tessa. No is quite sure why, they just do. Also, I they called my home by its address rather than what the locals call it - "the park on main", thanks to it's park sized yard. Next, I reached for the next letter. This one was from my dad.
My dear ____,
I am sure you will be upset, and I wish I could be there for you, but those days are over. Don't cry to much darling, we've known for a long time it was only a matter of time. I know we argued a lot during these past few years over our difference of opinion, but what ever happens now, know that I will approve of you, no matter what happens. So take our home and our bank, and follow your dreams. Just - try to leave something for future generations, okay? I love you darling,
Your dear ole dad.
That letter really made it real for me. He was gone, and I had no idea what to do next. I was helpless without him. No! I couldn't think like that. I needed to keep going, because that's what he would have wanted. Time for work.
You have worked at a high school for several years. You don't need to of course, but it's your way of given no back to the community, as well as ensuring that there will still be funds in the bank for the next generation. Actually, you enjoy it. The other to reasons are just you making excuses. Well, it was time to head out, no matter why you did it. You tucked the letters and other objects into a drawer and grabbed your coat before heading out the door to begin a new day.
