Chapter 2: The Bureaucrat
You know, I'm writing this story faster than my other one.
------
My mind immediately began to race with worry.
What if they increase the taxes again?!
My family is already going through tough times, and we can't afford to give our money to the wealthy while they spend it on their "lavish" activities.
What if they are about to take some innocent people away because of their "suspicious" behavior. With the upcoming war and everything, this place has become more alert and anyone who might be suspected as a spy, are executed!
What if-!
"Here ye!!!"
"Here ye!!!"
My mind immediately stopped and focused more on the speaker, I didn't want to miss anything imperative.
"My name is Caseo Cassius and I present the King's thoughts on the war. Now, I'm sure you're aware of the preparations for the upcoming war now you be questioning why I'm here well-"
"Yer, right we know, and I know what yer came to do," Uncle Augustus, or more widely known as Gus, spoke.
"Yer wanna make us work more, ain't that right boys?!" he turned around and beckoned the crowd as he lifted his arms up for the people to cheer with him.
He looked back at the bureaucrat and gave a mean glare to him.
"But that ain't gonna happen, as long I'm here"
The bureaucrat had a smug look on his face as he continued from Uncle's outburst.
"-we've been getting reports of a suspicious looking person on these grounds, and you all know how we deal with them." he looked at all of us with a blood lust look in his eyes.
Everyone in the crowd gasped and started to whisper among themselves on who they thought it could be. I saw some people point at Uncle Gus and move away from him. On the other side, he was still glaring at the smug bureaucrat.
Then in an instance, guards seemed to pop out of nowhere.
And that's when things began to get crazy.
Due to the sudden movement, the goats and horses in the nearby stables started to go into a frenzy. The owners tried to calm them but ended up getting hit in the face by their strong legs, then passing out.
Me on the other hand was still looking at Uncle and Mr. Smug-Face until I couldn't take it anymore.
I knew I could be in big trouble if I did, but someone needed to do the right thing.
I marched up to the bureaucrat and,
Smack
It was so loud that everything around me stopped what they were doing and stared.
I was in shock for awhile before regaining my previous confidence
"What's the matter with you?!" I yelled with my eyes stinging, "You dare come up here and accuse us! Take you and all your wealthyness and go back to where you came from!".
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Nobody moved a single inch.
"Are you done?"
He looked at me with narrowed eyes.
"Guards! Take this girl to the dungeon for disobeying Article 7, passage 6, line 7!"
My heart stopped.
This couldn't be happening.
The armored soldiers marched up to me and grabbed my arms.
"No!" I yelled as I tried to free my arms from their strong grips. "You can't do this to me!"
"Oh, but I can~" he replied, walking towards me.
"And you brought this upon yourself, little girl," he said snarkily while tilting my chin up so I could see his disgusting face.
"Don't yer dare lay your hands her!"
We both turned around to see Uncle holding an ax (where did he get that from???) while running towards the bureaucrat.
He quickly let go of me and took a step back. From my angle, I could fear in his eyes while on the hand, Uncle had a fire of determination.
When he got close enough, he swung the arm, carrying the ax, back and swung it forward, right towards the bureaucrat.
I closed my eyes expected the sound of pain and agony, but instead-
Clink!
I opened my eyes and saw a knight in silver armor intercept his sword with Uncle's ax, right above the government officials head.
I let out a sigh of relief.
Even though we all hate this guy, seeing his pretty little head cut off wouldn't be the way I'd like him to go down.
I turned and saw the bureaucrat lying on the floor with his attire messily scattered across.
Some people around me began to laugh and point fingers at his state. Even I gave a little chuckle under my breath.
And since the guards left to go help Mr. No-Smug-Face, I walked to the workstation and began dusting the dust off the rocks.
What a drama-filled morning.
