After taking her time, Swara started.
"Sanskar, when I saw you for the first time, you were wearing a light pink T-shirt and blue jeans looking absolutely cute".
Flashback
"Looks like today is the orientation day for first-year MBA students. There are so many new faces", said Kavya looking around where all the seniors were busy getting hold of the juniors to have some fun.
Kavya and Swara were sitting in their usual spot in the MBA block after bunking their last class for the day in their third year. They had their ID cards on so the MBA students didn't bother them as they don't interfere with B-Tech students.
"I love you Ms. Nandana", shouted a boy standing on a bench turning everyone's attention towards him. Even Swara and Kavya turned to look at the boy who had so many guts to propose a girl in front of the whole college.
"Oh my, he is a greek God", exclaimed Kavya while Swara couldn't agree more.
"Sanskar, wait let me also do it", came in another voice. "SANSKAR" this name got registered in many girl's hearts who already started cursing this Nandana not even knowing who she was.
"Come on Abhay", encouraged Sanskar.
"I also love you Nandu", shouted Abhay improvising it making everyone around smile.
"Raghu come on...there is nothing to fear...just do it", called Sanskar to another boy who was standing there all trembling with fear. Raghu slowly joined the two boys on the bench but was still shaking with fear having so many eyes on him.
"Raghu close your eyes and shout...its so much fun", added Abhay with smile not leaving his lips.
Swara smiled looking at his excited face. Getting closer, she understood that it was a task given by seniors to Raghu but as he was very scared, to make him acquainted and easy, Sanskar stood up taking the task on him introducing himself to the entire college in a cinematic way which was followed by fully enthusiastic Abhay.
"I...I love...you", shouted Raghu shutting his eyes tightly and the seniors shook their head in disapproval.
"Now dance standing in your place", ordered one of the seniors looking at Raghu. Hearing which his face became pale.
"Brother, we will do it instead of him. Looks like he is not feeling that comfortable. Please spare him", requested Sanskar not wanting Raghu to lose his confidence on the very first day of his new home where he has to stay for the next two years.
"In that case, let's change the rules", saying which the senior turned towards the crowd.
"Is there anyone with the name Nandana here? You would get a chance to dance with these boys", questioned one of the seniors thinking that no one would come forward and he would get a chance to humiliate the boys but to his shock most of the girls raised their hands coming forward saying that their name is Nandana.
Swara and Kavya stood there with open mouth looking around. Even the seniors were now reconsidering their decision.
"Looks like they are going to give us a lot of competition. It's better if we stop it here", whispered one of the seniors to their group and everyone agreed.
"Actually this task is for Raghu and as he failed miserably, you three will get punishment. Here we have five assignments which you have to complete by tomorrow morning ", said one of the seniors handing over five sheets of papers to Sanskar before dispersing the crowd and leaving from there.
After making sure that Raghu is alright,
"Abhay, I am going to the library to finish off this assignment. Want to join?", asked Sanskar wearing his bag around his shoulder.
"No thanks Sanskar, I am very confident that you can manage it without me", replied Abhay with a smile.
"Right, what about you Raghu?", asked Sanskar turning towards Raghu.
"Ofcourse I will, I am so sorry...because of me you too got the punishment", apologized Raghu.
"Not at a problem, infact I am very excited to see what syllabus we would get in our second year", replied Sanskar with enthusiasm.
"That's so like you, anyway I will just go around the campus and see if I could get my hands on anything interesting", replied Abhay with a glint of excitement in his eyes.
"Fine, call me if you need something and be careful", saying which Sanskar left with Raghu finding his way to his most favorite place.
"He is so sweet", said Swara more to herself forgetting that Kavya is beside her.
"And hot too", added Kavya.
Sanskar became the centre of discussion for the next few days not only among the girls but also between the lecturers because of his outsmart answers in the classes. Swara too saw him sometimes in the food court where he used to have his lunch explaining the doubts to his batch mates. Unknowingly, she started admiring him and her eyes started searching for him whenever they were around management block.
Swara was never interested in any other sport other than cricket but one evening, she found all the girls surrounding basket ball court. Dheeraj, Sahil, Kavya and Swara too joined the crowd to see what was so interesting over there but instantly understood the reason.
Sanskar was running with the ball tapping it on the ground and moving swiftly escaping his opponents trying to reach the other end to throw the ball in the basket. His sleeveless jersey sticking to his body because of sweat was revealing the well-built chest under it making Swara's heart skip a beat. She never knew that she can go this crazy just by looking at a man. This boy is something else.
Rubbing her hands and shutting her mind to control all those weird thoughts, she tried to concentrate on the game precisely on Sanskar. As he threw the ball directly into the basket earning a point for their team, the crowd uproared and Sanskar just smiled getting back to the game.
Slowly, this became a routine and Swara constantly visited Management block sometimes alone and sometimes with her friends. By now, she understood her feelings for Sanskar but didn't share it with anyone in a fear that everyone would start teasing her and also she wanted to tell it to Sanskar first. She tried a lot to catch his attention, once by throwing her pouch while passing the place where Sanskar was sitting with his friends explaining something, like a gentleman he did pick it up and handed it to her not looking at her and sometimes standing beside him for ordering snacks from the food court but to no vail.
Swara found every single thing about Sanskar to be attractive. The way he was not tempted to any pleasures and the way he was focussed on the dream he wanted to achieve were just a few of them. By the time, she could gather the courage to speak with him, Dheeraj proposed her and she decided to help him shutting down all her plans for some time. But Sanskar has become her addiction that she couldn't help stealing one glance a day.
But once Sanskar didn't turn up for two days, and those two days she couldn't concentrate on her studies nor eat anything properly. As she didn't know anyone close to Sanskar to enquire about Sanskar's sudden absence, she has no other option than praying to God that Sanskar should be alright. After two days, as he returned Swara sighed in relief. As she was leaving she heard Sanskar's voice being muffled and weak as if he was having cold.
"Kaka, can you prepare herbal tea with ginger and peppermint in it", Swara requested the old man in the canteen and he agreed as she was ready to pay for it.
"Please give this to the boy sitting on that table and tell him that it is good for getting over cold", said Swara and looking at her puppy eyes, the old man agreed and took it to Sanskar.
"Sorry, we didn't order it", said Sanskar looking at the tea cup placed before him.
"This is good for you beta as you seem to have cold", replied the man with a smile and Sanskar thanked him with a smile.
"It really feels better", said Sanskar taking a sip making Swara smile before leaving from there.
Flashback ends as Sanskar interrupts.
"So, that tea is sent by you", exclaimed Sanskar with a smile.
"I asked the owner but he said he don't know who you were and he will inform me if he finds you again but he never did that", put in Sanskar.
"I told him not to", replied Swara.
"Why?", asked Sanskar.
"At that time, I was buried in the guilt of betraying Dheeraj and thought I would tell my feelings to you after finishing it off as soon as possible but by the time he got his job, you completed your MBA and left Kolkata too", said Swara tears rolling down her eyes.
"I cried everyday with the regret of hurting someone who loved me with all his heart but what can I do Sanskar when I don't feel the same for him. His every message showing that he is destroying his life used to tear my heart and made my life miserable. Not only Dheeraj even I lost my love. I lost you resulting in two years of separation. Only I know how badly I wanted to see you, be with you...", but before she could complete, Sanskar turned her over and came above her startling Swara.
"If you say so, I can cover the two years of distance in the next few minutes", he whispered lowering down to her ear trying to divert her mind from all the miseries.
"I...I can wait till our marriage", stuttered Swara and Sanskar smiled looking at his effect on her.
"As you please madam", he said in the same tone kissing her forehead making her blush.
Sanskar laid down beside Swara putting his hands below his head while Swara moved closer to him and placed her chin on his chest.
Looking into his eyes she asked "Sanskar I seriously wonder what has got into you lately, I mean you are becoming romantic day by day...what's the matter?"
"Haa, what can I do if my fiance is so irrestitable", said Sanskar trying to flirt but Swara gave him a "tell me the truth" look.
"Fine then listen", said Sanskar.
Flashback
"Sanskar, I want to tell you something", started Arnav looking at nothing in particular.
"Ha bhai", replied Sanskar.
"The time with your would-be wife before marriage is very crucial. And I don't want you to miss this period like me. Though Khushi never complained, I knew that like every other girl, she too was longing for me to surprise her or to take her out on a date but then I had got no one trustworthy to take care of my business in my absence but now you have me. So, I want you to spend most of the time with Swara trying to give all the happiness she deserves and ha before that you have to get some training watching few romantic movies because by your proposal I understood that you are worse than me in these matters", said Arnav turning towards Sanskar making sure that he is hearing.
"And no more excuses, I shouldn't get any complaints from Swara that her husband is unromantic", said Arnav sternly.
Flashback ends
"And you know right, I am a quick learner", said Sanskar feeling proud of himself, hearing which Swara smiled and her heart was dancing registering the fact that Sanskar was making an effort coming out of his comfort zone only to make her happy.
"I must thank Arnav bhai then", said Swara.
"And even I deserve a compliment, don't I?", complained Sanskar making Swara admire her cute boyfriend.
Swara leaned forward to kiss him on his cheek but as Sanskar turned his face to his left suddenly, her lips brushed his lips sending shivers down both of them. Hastily Swara withdrew and sat up but Sanskar pulled her towards him making her fall on his chest.
"Thank you accepted", smiled Sanskar while Swara dugged her face deep into his neck trying to hide her blush. Within minutes, he heard muffles and felt hot tears falling on his neck. He careesed her left cheek with his right hand and pulled her closer.
"Sanskar, I don't deserve a perfect man like you. I made a mistake which can't be corrected nor justified", sniffled Swara with continuous tears flowing down her eyes.
"Sh...bacha, no one is perfect in this world. It's not possible to make everyone around you happy. All you wanted was to help him though the path you have chosen was not the right way but still you were just a teenager then and I am really proud of you for accepting your mistake which is not at all easy. So, please stop regretting and let time heal the pain of Dheeraj. I am sure he will find the girl destined for him and then nothing else would matter to him", Sanskar tried to console her by patting her back and Swara slowly drifted off to sleep in the safe hands of Sanskar. After what seemed to be an eternity, Swara slept peacefully with a light heart.
Sanskar was looking at the sky lost in his thoughts when he saw a shooting star and immediately, Sanskar wished for all the happiness for Dheeraj without second thought. Holding Swara tightly, he too drifted off to sleep.
