To the One that I Lost
I thought of you tonight
As rain tapped against my black window
Softly like timid spirits
Asking permission to come in.
I thought of your corpse
Which would be hallowed by now
With flaccid skin like melted rubber
And sunken eye sockets
That told of a departed soul.
I dreamed of your home
Smelling of dead air and ice;
So unlike the warmth of your life.
Memories of you are like the mist
That rises from the tempered asphalt
As the thick tears of the atmosphere
Suffocate the heat of which the
Luminous day had previously bestowed.
It emerges, thick and sure,
Only to simmer and fade away.
I thought of you
And the possibilities of never.
I cried with the Heavens because
There was nothing more I could do.
