I'm AJ (She/Her) • Wattpad Creator

I'm a thirty-something grad student who loves to tell stories. Whether I'm writing about a graveyard in Salem or a sunny beach in Rhode Island, I am inspired by my love of New England and the Atlantic Ocean.

I'm also a co-host and mentor for the Bootcamp Mentors, which is a Wattpad sponsored mentorship program that helps writers polish their stories for submission to the Wattys.

7 QUESTIONS

1. What prompted you to start writing on Wattpad and what do you like most about the platform as a writer?

I found out about Wattpad on a fan fiction forum, and decided to check it out! I was super overwhelmed at first because I had no idea how to make a book cover, but slowly I figured it out.

I love Wattpad for the community feeling that it has. I love being able to interact with my readers in real time.

2. What has been your most rewarding Wattpad experience?
Becoming a Bootcamp Mentor has been my most rewarding experience thus far, outside of joining Creators. I love working with writers on their stories and gifting the knowledge that others gifted to me. Mentoring others makes me a better writer and a better community member.

3. If you had to describe your story in three words, what would they be?
Spicy, funny, real

4. Tell us one thing about your writing process that has helped you the most.
Beat sheets! I am not a plotter by any means, but I use beat sheets as I'm writing to help construct a story that has a satisfying structure. 

5. What is your proudest moment as a writer? Do you have a memory you will never forget?
I'll never forget the day I was asked to join Stars, followed closely by the day I received an invitation to become a Creator! I'm not a big name writer with tons of reads, and I remember being in absolute disbelief. I even printed off the email and put it beside my desk to remind myself in times of doubt that people believe in me.

6. Which of your books is your favourite, and why that one?
That's a hard question! It's like asking which child is my favorite! So much of my heart goes into each story. But, so far, my favorite book is the one I'm writing now. Dance Around It. It blends humor and feels, and I've truly been enjoying writing it.
