"I think we should break up," Daewon says. The boy on the other end goes quiet and Daewon could feel the anxiety flare through his body. He'd opted for calling him rather than face-timing like they usually did. If he were to see his boyfriend's face he didn't think he could go through with everything.
"Break up? Why?" the other male questions but Daewon doesn't answer. He looked at the checked tiles beneath him, the colors blurring together as tears filled his eyes.
"I thought things were good between us"
"They were, they are!" Daewon speaks before thinking. He wanted to reassure his boyfriend, he really did. He wanted to tell him how much he loved him, how much he missed behind in his arms, his hugs, him in general, but he couldn't.
"Then why are you suggesting we break up?"
"It's just...things are too different between us. I think we should stop here"
"Daewon baby, please. Talk to me, this doesn't make any sense," the other male pleads.
"I'm sorry Songmin, but we should stop," Daewon says. He pressed on the red button hanging up the call and lets his phone drop to the ground. He squeezed his eyes tight as he tried to stop his tears from falling. He didn't want to break up with Songmin, the other was so sweet and an amazing boyfriend. With Songmin in America for school Daewon couldn't stand the distance anymore, and on top of it he would be debuting soon, he didn't have time for a boyfriend, ending it now was the right call.
"Dae-hyung!" a voice calls from down the hall. Daewon could easily tell it was their maknae, Hueningkai. No one had a voice like Kai's. Quickly wiping away his tears Daewon smiles at the younger boy as he pushes himself up off the ground.
"Ning Ning! How was school?" Daewon questions as the boy nuzzles his cheek against his hyungs.
"Fun actually! I understood everything in my science class all thanks to you hyung! Thanks a bunch" Kai says, squeezing Daewon even tighter than before.
"That's great Kai! See, just listen to hyung and you'll be fine," Daewon chuckles. Kai pulls away from his hyung to show off his bright smile.
"Are you ok though hyung? You looked kinda stressed?" he questions. Daewon's smile falters for a bit before he forces himself to smile wider than before.
"It's nothing, just my parents nagging me is all"
"Ahh, I understand. Cheer up ok! It's only cause they love you" the maknae says, patting his hyungs shoulder. Daewon ruffles the younger boy's hair before wrapping an arm around his waist.
"Come on you, let's head to practice," he says.

By the time practice was over Daewon was drenched in sweat. His clothes reeked of perspiration but even as the others were gleefully packing up for the night he stayed in front of the mirror running over the moves.
"Dae, aren't you gonna go home?" Yeonjun's the first to comment as he zips his bag, hoisting it onto his shoulder.
"I just feel like I'm not getting it fully. I won't be long. Promise," he says flashing a smile.
"Ok! Make sure you clean up well!" Beomgyu says already halfway out the door.
"Don't hurt yourself" Soobin comments as he follows Beomgyu. One by one the others leave but Yeonjun was a bit reluctant. He never really liked leaving the members on their own.
"I'm fine hyung, just wanna practice a bit more. Thirty minutes at most" Daewon says. Yeonjun sighs but pulls Daewon into a hug.
"Fine~ But no more than thirty minutes"
"Promise!" Daewon says even though he knew he was lying, and maybe Yeonjun knew too and that's why he hesitated to let Daewon go. Eventually, though, the two stepped away from each other and Yeonjun bid Daewon a good night before disappearing behind the door. Once Daewon deemed everything to be ok he started the music again and danced for hours.

The next few weeks were like being on a roller coaster. Daewon's emotions were everywhere. He was either extremely depressed or forcing himself to feel happy. The other two relationships he'd been in when they ended they ended. He'd been forced into those relationships anyways and could never connect with them like he had with Songmin. Needless to say, Daewon was taking the break up hard, and worst of all the members were starting to notice. He didn't want them to know, he didn't want them to treat him like he was fragile because he isn't, he's strong just...going through a hard time.
Today had been one of those days they didn't really need to go in for practice but did so anyway. They spent some time in a practice room singing songs, mainly goofing off instead of really practicing. They were young and needed to enjoy their youth before it was over. After a few hours, they got bored.
"Let's get ice cream," Beomgyu suggests.
"Did Dae-hyung put you up to this?" Taehyun questions. Daewon pouts his bottom lip jutted out and his arms crossed over his chest.
"Why do you just assume I put him up to it?" he questions. Taehyun snorts and shakes his head.
"Because usually, you do"
"No, I don't"
"Yeah, you do," Yeonjun and Soobin say at the same time, causing them both to yell out a series of jinxes and whatnot.
"Ok sometimes I do but not this time," Daewon huffs.
"No one put me up to it. I'm just craving it, so let's go!" he says. The members shrug and grab their things from the floor. They make sure everything is neat and back in place before leaving to head to the nearest ice cream place. They discuss what they want, before heading into the parlor. Before Daewon can get through the door Beomgyu pulls at the pack of Daewon's shirt silently telling him to stay.
"What? I want ice cream" Daewon pouts as he longingly looks through the glass at all the ice cream flavors stored in cold metal buckets.
"We need to talk"
"Can we do it after we get ice cream?"
"No. The others already know what you want, they'll get it" Beomgyu says. He grabs Daewon's wrist, tugging him out the way of the shop entrance and over to the side.
"What's the deal?" he questions. While the others tease him for being the "dummy" in the group the boy was rather observant. Being the unofficial mood-maker he could easily gauge the other member's moods with a simple look, even someone who tried to hide it like Daewon always did.
"I don't know what you mean?" Daewon mutters. He toes at a loose piece of gravel kicking the small object around.
"I'm not as dumb as you all say you know. We've been friends for over a year now hyung, I can tell something's wrong"
"I'm fine puppy," Daewon says. He was hoping the use of Beomgyu's nickname was enough to get the boy off his back but that's the thing about Beomgyu, he's persistent.
"Daewon hyung, I have your mother on speed dial. If you won't tell me what's wrong maybe you'll tell her" Beomgyu says with an unimpressed look. Daewon's head snaps to look up at Beomgyu confusion written all over his face.
"You have my mother on what?" he questions, finding the senescence odd to his ears.
"Speed dial and fourth emergency contact"
"Why do you have four emergency contacts"
"The better question is why don't you?" Beomgyu questions his eyebrow arched. Daewon actually takes a second to ponder it wondering if it was even necessary to have more than two emergency contacts.
"Besides the point though, fess up," Beomgyu says. He had a finger pointing at Daewon as he tried to seem threatening but all it succeeded in was making Daewon inwardly coo because Beomgyu looked too cute. It took a minute but Daewon took a deep breath before telling the younger boy what was wrong.
"I broke up with Songmin," Beomgyu freezes for a second, the sentence having caught him off guard.
"You broke up?" he says slowly making sure he'd heard right because I didn't even seem likely. Daewon and Songmin were a disgustingly cute couple but even Beomgyu could see they were pretty much perfect for each other. Daewon always looked so happy when he was with his boyfriend.
"Did he break up with you? That bastard, he didn't even have the guts to say it to your face, what a coward" the younger begins to go on a rant, his face slowly turning red with anger. How dare that boy hurt his Dae-hyung.
"Beom, I broke up with him....over the phone," Daewon says, placing a hand on Beomgyu's shoulder stopping the boy from angrily pacing on the sidewalk. The younger pauses for a second as he blinks at his hyung.
"Oh....but like I'm sure you had your reasons....still a cowardly move though," he says. Daewon dryly chuckles but nods agreeing.
"Yeah it was but...I don't think I could have done it if I was face to face with him" he admits.
"I'm sorry hyung...I know you love him," Beomgyu says as he leans in for a hug. Daewon lets his arms loosely wrap around the younger as he lets himself be hugged by Beomgyu who always seemed to cheer him up with such a simple action.
"WE'VE GOT THE ICE CREAM!" Yeonjun shouts as he and the others walk out of the ice cream place.
"Took you long enough" Beomgyu jokes as he pulls away from Daewon.
"Well sorry. Someone has a very specific order and we had to make sure we got it right so he doesn't throw a tantrum" Soobin says, looking at Daewon who gives a shy smile.
"Thanks, Soob," he says as the other 00 line boy hands him the cardboard bowl cold to the touch due to the ice cream. Together the group walked to a nearby park sitting at one of the wooden tables so they could eat their ice cream. For the most part, it was silent except for Yeonjun and Beomgyu who could never be quiet, and the occasional moan from one of the members as they took a bite of their ice cream. Once they were done they made sure to throw everything into a nearby trash can. They hang out for a bit, acting like overgrown kids at the playground before parting ways.
"You'll be fine hyung," Beomgyu says before he leaves, "Nothing lasts forever"
"Why thank you wise Gyu," Daewon mutters with an eye roll. Beomgyu snaps his fingers as a wide smile spreads over his face.
"Yeah! I'm wise enough to be your hyung!" he shouts.
"Sure sure, get home safe," Daewon says, waving the boy off. He watches as Beomgyu waves back before bouncing down the road and disappearing off into the distance. Now alone with nothing but his thoughts Daewon had to hand it to Beomgyu he was pretty wise. Nothing lasts forever.
