Not Today
Someday the flowers will wither. But no, not today
"Why do you want to be an actress?" He posed the question without much interest, looking rather bored where he sat in his chair.
"Why do you ask?" She leaned back into the couch, crossing her legs in feigned nonchalance.
"Just answer the question," he deadpanned.
"Because I have a passion for the art—"
"Don't lie. I know when you lie, Lee Sorim. Now give me the real answer."
She grit her teeth. "It's because...sometimes I really need to not be me, even if it's just for an hour or two. That's why I want to be an actress. Because I get to live the life of someone else...I get to be happy, just for a little while," she admitted, lowering the pages in her hands to look at the man across from her.
"So what exactly is this drama about?" Yoongi broke character and squinted oddly at Chaerin as he laid down the sample script he had been reading from.
"You've been reading this with me for the past twenty minutes," Chaerin exclaimed with a chuckle and rolled her eyes teasingly. "It's about a girl who is trying to become an actress and she meets this man who—" she stopped explaining when Yoongi very blatantly yawned.
It was tad rude to yawn in the middle of someone's sentence but at least he had the decency to attempt covering it with the pages of the sample script. Chaerin rolled her eyes and threw her own script on the coffee table. She'd been practicing the lines on her own but reading lines alone wasn't very good practice, so Chaerin managed to convince Yoongi to read with her. He was a terrible actor and he knew it, but at least when she asked for help he tried.
"Well as thrilling as this script is, can we take a break? I'm exhausted," he told Chaerin as he shut his eyes, hoping to fall asleep. The part time delivery job he'd gotten recently took a lot of energy out of him, and of course he still had gigs at night sometimes.
Sadly, his attempted nap was cut short when a pillow hit him in the face. His eyes sprung open and zeroed in on Chaerin. She was sitting on the couch, looking perfectly innocent, but he knew better.
"Yah Chaerin, did you throw a pillow at me?" One of his eyebrows quirked.
"Of course not, why would you say such a thing?" She gasped in feigned offense.
Yoongi squinted at her. "Yeah...okay."
He sat back, pretending to relax while he secretly grabbed the corner of the pillow that had hit him. Hearing Chaerin's muffled snicker, and knowing that she thought she got away with it, Yoongi waited until she turned around to chuck the pillow right back at her.
Chaerin froze when a pillow whacked the back of her head. Yes, she believed it happened; Yoongi had retaliated. That meant war.
She whirled around and grabbed another small pillow from the couch, hurling it at Yoongi. Unfortunately for her, he caught it before it could smack him and jumped out of his chair, sprinting after Chaerin. Their game of cat and mouse took them all around the apartment. They used the furniture as shields from the pillow-bombs and any item of clothing, scrap of paper, or stray candy wrapper became ammunition for their war.
It all wound down to a stalemate when Yoongi and Chaerin hid on opposite sides of the couch. Having wrecked the living room and run out of ammunition they ended up calling a truce. The two of them sat side by side on the double mattress that was tucked into the corner of the living room, looking around at their seriously messed up apartment.
"Should we clean this up?" Chaerin asked, secretly hoping the answer was 'no'.
"Maybe later," Yoongi hummed. "I'm way too tired to deal with this mess today."
"Oh thank god, I'm exhausted." Chaerin sighed and let her head drop onto Yoongi's shoulder.
"I know you hate when I tell you this but you need to stop working so many shifts, Chae. You're working yourself to death, you need to take a break." He hated worrying about her like this. But Yoongi hoped that if he nagged her enough she might actually listen to him.
A small smile worked itself onto Chaerin's lips. "Actually I have tomorrow off."
Yoongi's head whipped around in surprise. "Really?" He couldn't get a good look at her since she had her head on his shoulder but he could still pick out the sneaky smile on her face.
"Yup. I was only working those extra shifts because I was saving up for something," she admitted. "But I'm done saving so I think I deserve a day off right about now." She really did, she'd been breaking her neck working multiple shifts every day.
Yoongi's eyebrows furrowed. "What were you saving for?" Chaerin always told him everything, why didn't she tell him about this?
Chaerin grinned. Her hard work had finally paid off and she could now unveil her surprise. She snatched up Yoongi's hand and yanked him up from the mattress, skipping towards the bedroom-turned-studio.
"What are you doing?" Yoongi whined.
"Come on!"
Chaerin had actually made it home before Yoongi that day so she had plenty of time to sneak into his studio and arrange everything. She could finally show him what all those extra shifts were working towards. She came to a halt just in front of his studio door, turning to face him. Chaerin tried to hide her grin and failed miserably. Yoongi was a little frightened by the maniac grin on her face but thought it best not to say anything, in case she was going insane or something. It was best not to spook a crazy person.
"Are you ready?" She bounced on her toes like and overexcited child.
"That depends, are you going to murder me or something?"
Chaerin rolled her eyes. "Please, if I was going to murder you I would've done it a long time ago. So, are you ready?"
"Fine. I'm ready."
Chaerin's grin stretched even wider. She hurriedly shoved the door open with her hip and yanked Yoongi inside. At first he stumbled from the force of Chaerin pulling his arm. For a small girl she was freakishly strong. But as soon as he found his footing, his mouth dropped open.
His keyboard had been moved to its stand by the wall. On the table that normally held nothing but scattered pages of lyrics and a few stray pens sat something he never expected to see. A computer monitor rested on the table, surrounded on both sides by expensive speakers. The walls were completely covered with acoustic foam panels and there was a microphone set up in the corner of the room. A set of professional headphones hung over the mic stand and cables ran along the edges of the room. A formerly bare room had been transformed into an at-home recording studio. It was incredible.
"You did this?" Yoongi looked around the room in awe.
"Well yeah," Chaerin smiled sheepishly. "A couple of the guys from the music store helped me with the wall panels when they delivered all the equipment today. And all the wires were kind of confusing but they plugged them all in for me. So I guess they kind of did the big work, I just stood in the corner and watched," she chuckled, sparing a nervous glance at Yoongi's back, since he was facing away from her.
"But you planned this," his fingers ran over the computer keys. "You bought all this equipment. You got people in here to set it up," he paused in realization. "That's why you were working so much." He whipped around to face Chaerin, who was starting up at him with those doe-like eyes of hers. "You've been working sixteen hour days for months now. For me?"
She shrugged her shoulders. "Why else?"
Yoongi stared at Chaerin, dumbfounded. She was crazy. This girl was absolutely crazy. But Yoongi couldn't help yanking her into a bone-crushing hug, despite her obvious mental instability. He held Chaerin so tight she was practically wheezing, but she didn't complain. Chaerin had noticed that Yoongi had a habit of hugging people—usually her—when he got really excited.
"I hate you, you know that?" He grunted into her hair.
"Shut up," she lightly smacked his ribs. "You love me."
"Yeah well...you are my person. I kind of have to love you, don't I."
Chaerin hid her smug grin by pressing her face into Yoongi's chest. "Darn right you do, Min."
"Don't make me pinch you, Yah."
"That didn't sound like a thank you," she taunted him.
Yoongi returned her tease with a swift smack on her behind, making Chaerin shriek in surprise.
"Min Yoongi don't make me handcuff you, mister!" She punched his arm as an attempt to hide the tomato-hued blush that flushed her skin. When had he gotten so brazen?
Yoongi hugged Chaerin closer and leaned in to whisper in her ear, "Kinky."
He snorted a laugh when Chaerin started smacking his chest repeatedly. The crimpson blush on her cheeks was painfully obvious and incredibly cute.
"What has gotten into you today?"
Yoongi didn't answer her question and instead propped his chin on the top of her head. "Thanks Chae."
Now that it seemed he had finished tormenting her, she relaxed into his arms. "You're welcome."
