You just made this conversation awkward for me.”

“From what you're saying, you got along with some of them quickly.” the ginger haired man says. Katherine nods. “That actually happens to me a lot. Even if I've just met someone, we just kind of, click. I don't know why, but it comes in handy. Especially when you need a friend.” Katherine smiles sadly. “What do you mean be needing a friend. If you get along with people easily, wouldn't that mean that you have a lot of friends?” the brunette haired man asks. “You would assume that, yes. But, they usually end up leaving, ignoring, or hating me. You see, I tend to push people away, especially when I need them the most. But, this is the first time that they didn't do any of those things.” Katherine answers, not noticing that tears are falling down her face.

They had been walking for a long time, and hadn't found anything. It had actually only been, around an hour, but Katherine wanted to give up, and just go to sleep. Obviously, she couldn't do that, but she wishes she could. “So do you do any sports?” Kirin asks, as he walks next to her at the front. “Track, and surprisingly cheerleading.” Katherine answers. “I wasn't expecting you to say cheerleading.” Kirin says truthfully. “What about you?” Katherine asks. “Lacrosse.” He says proudly.

Katherine starts laughing, and Kirin looks at her offended. “I'm sorry. It's just – that reminded me of Teen Wolf – the show, not the movie. They play lacrosse, but they lose just about every game they play. And I just imagined a bunch of werewolves playing lacrosse.” Katherine explains. Kirin nods in understanding. “Well, when my team plays, we usually always win. And there's no werewolves, or any supernatural creatures.” Kirin says.

“Well that sucks.” Katherine pouts. “The supernatural part, or the part where we usually win?” Kirin asks confused. “The supernatural part.” Katherine responds. “So, are you dating anyone?” Kirin asks out of nowhere. Katherine chokes down a laugh. “What the fuck? No. Why are you asking?” Katherine says completely confused. Kirin shrugs his shoulders. “You just made this conversation awkward for me. I'm going to talk to Henry. Goodbye.” Katherine says, before walking towards Henry. Kirin watches her walk away, silently cursing himself for asking her that. He had only been trying to keep the conversation going.

🌺

She walked along side Henry for a while. Before deciding to walk with Kirin again. “I thought I made the conversation awkward.” Kirin scoffs playfully. “Yeah, well I don't feel awkward anymore. So, I decided to walk with you again. ” Katherine grins. “Oh, that sucks, I was enjoying the quiet.” Kirin says. Katherine scoffs at him. “Well, I can just go back, and keep talking to Henry.” Katherine says, as she starts walking back. “No! I mean – you can stay.” Kirin says. “Okay.” She responds, as she continues to walk next to him.

“Do you think we'll find anything?” Katherine asks. “I don't know. But I hope we do.” Kirin responds. Katherine nods. She had gotten a bad feeling ever since she woke up. And she hadn't figured out why. She was hoping that she was just working herself up over nothing. But with her luck, it was probably something horrible.

They keep walking for what feels like forever. Katherine feels as if she could go on forever, maybe it's the fact that they do track, but she isn't tired, at least not yet. She had been doing track for seven years, since she was ten.

🌺

“I'd like to humbly suggest we head back. This is obviously a wasteland.” Henry says, as he holds out his hands towards the sky. “We'll find something alright.” Kirin says. “Not before we lose daylight.” Henry responds. Kirin turns back to look at him. “Why do you keep doing that thing with your fingers?” Kirin asks. Katherine smiles, remembering something. Her moms had taught her what Henry was doing. Which was counting how much time they had until sundown. “Gage how long until sunset. Every finger is fifteen minutes.” Henry explains.

“What are you, some kind of boy scout?” Kirin asks sort of mockingly. “Yes. Well I quit in ninth grade, I ended wanting something different for myself, aesthetically.” Henry responds. “Oh shit.” Kirin says, before walking again. Katherine laughs slightly. “Look – look I don't love agreeing, with fucking testosterone Jones over here. But – um, I do think we'll find something. I mean it's like I was saying we're probably about to roll up on some sick architect's house. Like a billionaire or something.” Scotty says.

“Let's hope not.” Henry says. “What are you talking about Damien?” Scotty asks. “His name's Henry, I think.” Bo says. “It's fine Bo. I think your friend's just finding a strong parallel between me and the antichrist boy from the Omen. But to answer your question, I've got zero desire to stumble upon the unlucky recluse.” Henry responds. “Why not?” Scotty asks. Katherine looks over at Kirin to see him holding his head. “Are you okay?” She asks him quietly. He shakes his head.

“They won't shut the fuck up.” Kirin whispers to her, motioning towards the boys, who are now talking about Dracula, and naming a bunch of rich people. Katherine tunes them out. “Try to tune them out.” Katherine whispers back. “I tried, and i'm not good at doing that.” He responds. Kirin starts getting more annoyed as the conversation behind them continues. ”Oh my God. Can you all just put a fucking lip on it. And start actually looking after shit?” Kirin says. “It's lid. Put a lid on it.” Henry responds. “Whatever. Let's just go back then losers. After I take a piss though.” Kirin says before walking away. “I gotta pee too.” Scotty says. Henry and Bo follow them.

Katherine sighs and turns around giving them their privacy. She would go back by herself, but she wanted to make sure they don't try to kill each other. Especially Henry and Kirin. As soon as they were done, they started heading back to where they had their stuff. When they were near there, Katherine sees something on the ground. As they all got closer they see that it was DJ, and he was laying face down. And wasn't breathing. They were all standing there staring at the body in shock. When the other half of their group approaches them. They all start running towards them. Only to see the body.

A part of his leg was bitten off. And his whole body was covered in blood. Kirin reaches down, and turns the body over. And his face is completely mauled. It isn't even recognizable. Katherine pulls Kirin away from the body.

🌺

They wrap his body in clothes, so it's completely covered. By they, I mean everyone but Katherine. She didn't even want to look at the body. She felt bad for DJ, but they didn't mean that she was going to touch a dead body.“I don't even get how it happened.” Kirin says. “The tide was vicious. He must've gotten hit by it, or attacked by something.” Seth answers. “Shit man, nature doesn't play.” Scotty says. “So what are we gonna do with him?” Bo asks. “We can't leave him here. Any carnivore on this island will come for him…. Then us.” Henry says.

“We could do a Navy funeral. Like some of my dad's friends in the service…. I mean at sea.” Bo suggests. They all start disagreeing. Katherine stays quiet, silently agreeing with Bo. “Guys – guys, I think Bo's right.” Seth agrees. “That's fucking insane.” Kirin argues. “I mean if we – if we weigh him down, and we keep him close. Then we stay safe.” Seth argues back. Henry says something, and Kirin responds to it as always. In the end they decide that Seth and Raf are the ones ‘burying’ DJ. They all watch as they carry him out into the sea.

Katherine watches in concern. Hoping nothing would happen to them. Luckily, they return safely. They all walk back, and find their own spots to settle down. Katherine sits down after putting on a red sweatshirt. It was getting cold, it was either the wind or the fact that it was dark. She starts thinking about her moms and how worried they probably are. If they even know, that the plane she was on had crashed. Once she's back home, they'll probably never let her out of their sights. An that's fine with Katherine, as long as she's able to see them again.
