They're based after the moon Ganymede, a moon that's bigger than the planet Mercury, and the biggest moon in our solar system. The moon is also covered with water, possibly more water than the water on Earth's surface, and Ganymede is the only moon with its own magnetic field. This moon orbits around Jupiter just as the moon Calisto does.
