Everything I Ever Thought I Knew: Part 2

Yes, I'm aware that I posted a Miraculous Ladybug image in a Descendants Fanfic. It was just the closest I could find to what I wanted)

Harry lead the way back down the hall to Ulma's room with Gil following right behind. Just as they stepped through the threshold a bright blue light flash in the room.

Harry blinked a few times as his vision cleared. Though he had little time to get his bearings before quickly being tackled.

"Dad!"

Harry looked down to see his sons hugging him tightly, clearly happy to see him.

"Well, if it isn't my two handsome lads." He chuckled, hugging them tightly. "I missed ye boys."

"We missed you too." Holden replied, releasing his hold. "We kinda grabbed Uncle Hadie at the last second when he was teleporting here. Are you mad?"

"No, I'm not mad. Though ye should be more careful. Who knows where ye might've ended up?" Harry chuckled. "Now where did yer brother go?"

He looked over and saw Henry had wandered over to Ulma's bedside. He was gripping the end of the bed tightly, his body slightly shaking as he stared at his sister.

"Henry?" Harry called softly, walking over to his son. "Are ye alright?"

When Henry didn't reply Harry slowly pulled Henry away to face him. That's when he noticed his wide-eyed expression and rapid breathing.

Harry scooped Henry into his arms and carried him into the hallway. This wasn't the first time Henry had a panic attack.

"Breathe Henry, it's okay. Ulma is going to be okay. But you need to calm down." Harry said gently as he sat his son down in the hallway.

Henry's breathing slowed as Harry rubbed his back. After a few moments, He released a loud sob before collapsing against his father's chest.

"It's alright lad." Harry said, gently rocking him in his arms. "You're okay."

Uma came out in the hallway and smiled when she saw Harry had already calmed Henry down. "Are you okay now?"

Henry nodded, moving away from Harry to accept his mother's embrace. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be." Uma said, brushing through his hair with her fingers. "There's nothing wrong with being upset."

Behind Uma, Hadie was staring at Harry with a knowing look. Slowly, he stood up and made his way over before turning to Uma. "I'm going with Hadie, I'll be right back. Okay?"

Uma nodded, as she continued to hold Henry in her arms. "Go. We'll be right here if you need us."

Harry gave her a quick kiss before motioning for Hadie to follow. The two men fell into step beside eachother as they headed down the hallway.

"I can't believe I have a brother." Hadie admitted, speaking up for the first time. "All these years I've been living the dream and he's been trapped all alone on the Isle. Now to find out like this, I feel awful."

Harry placed a comforting hand on his friend's shoulder as they stopped in front of the door to room 208. "Don't beat yourself up mate. You couldn't have known. You're here now, that's what matters."

Hadie nodded as Harry lead him into the room. The sound of beeping machines filled his ears as he stared at the boy on the bed. He had a messy mop of blue hair that was sticking out from the bandages around his head, one arm in a sling, and the rest of him that could be seen was covered in small cuts and bruises.

Hadie's eyes then travelled to his face. Despite the cuts, bruises, and breathing tube, he could easily spot the similarities in their appearance. There was no doubt in his mind that this boy was his brother.

"My gods." Hadie breathed moving to take the boy's hand and sit beside him. "Who the hell could have done this?"

"I'm hoping he'll be able to tell us." Harry admitted as a nurse entered the room to check the boy's vitals. "So did you bring it?"

Hadie nodded, producing the small vial of golden liquid from his pocket. "I never thought I would need to use this."

"Well, it's the only way we'll find out what happened sooner rather than later." Harry pointed out.

Hadie nodded as he approached the nurse. "Excuse me, my name is Hadie Underworld, Representative of Olympus, and this boy's brother. I brought some Nectar to help him recover. Could you administer it please?"

The nurse nodded and immediately grabbed a syringe from a nearby drawer. "Of course, right away. I'd heard he was part god, I guess this means it's true."

Hadie nodded as the nurse placed the liquid into the boy's IV. Once he was sure the nectar had been fully administered, he turned to Harry and the nurse. "I think it would be best if you both waited out in the hallway."

"Why?" Harry asked with a look of confusion.

Hadie gave them a somber look. "We're dealing with a kid with unknown godly powers, he's been on the Isle for years, and we have no idea what happened before he was knocked out. If he wakes up swinging, I'd rather you both be out of harm's way. Please go."

Harry nodded before following the nurse out of the room. "We'll be outside, holler if ye need anything."

"I will." Hadie responded, taking his place at his brother's bed side.

The room was quiet except the beeping of machines. Hadie's mind wandered as he stared at the boy on the bed. He knew that most likely Hades, his father, was behind the attack. They had been found in his home. But what Hadie didn't understand was why. What could his father do with Ulma's magic? How had he been able to steal it in the first place? There was no magic on the Isle...or was there?

A bad feeling crept into Hadie's gut. If magic had made it's way onto the Isle, then they could have a much bigger problem on their hands. And if Hades escaped-

Hadie was snapped from his thoughts by movement beside him. He glanced over and saw the boy was beginning to open his eyes.

"Hey." Hadie said gently. "You're alright, can you understand me?"

The boy's eyes blinked slowly before shooting wide open. His body shot up and he began to flail. Hadie dodged a fireball before grabbing the boy's wrists and pushing him down.

"Calm down! Calm down! You're safe! You're in Auradon, in a hospital. They put a tube in your throat to help you breathe. My name's Hadie, do you know who I am?"

The boy went limp at Hadie's words, studying him with wild eyes. After a moment, his eyes softened and filled with tears as he slowly shook his head.

Hadie's breath caught in his throat. His brother knew who he was. Slowly, he released his grip and sat beside him.

"I'm going to call the nurse to remove the tube. Just try to stay calm. The downside of being a child of Hades is our powers are linked to our emotions. If you are calm, your powers will be too. Just hold on."

Hadie motioned for the nurse to come in and Harry followed suit, but stayed back as to not overwhelm the boy. After a few minutes, the tube was removed. The boy coughed and Hadie offered him a glass of water.

"Thank you." The boy rasped, his throat still hoarse from the tube.

"You're welcome." Hadie replied, sitting gently on the edge of the bed. "So what's your name kid?"

The boy took another sip of water before replying. "Hayden."

Hadie smiled, he finally had a name. It had only been an hour but it had felt like an eternity. "It's nice to finally meet you Hayden. Welcome to Auradon."

Hadie extended a hand and Hayden reached to take it, only to his in pain when he did it with his bad arm.

"Careful, nectar works fast but bones are always the last to heal. Try not to move that arm to much." Hadie explained.

Hayden nodded slowly as he began to examine his own body and then the room around him. When his eyes landed on Harry, he froze. The man's piercing blue eyes were all to familiar and Hayden immediately knew who he was.

"Your Ulma's dad, aren't you?"

Harry nodded as he stepped further into the room. "Aye, she's my only daughter. I just got home from deployment only to find her on death's door. I don't want to upset ye lad, but tell me what happened. I need to know what she went through."

Hayden's stomach churned at the expression on Harry's face. Instead of the anger and hatred he'd expected, he saw worry, grief, and desperation. This wasn't a man looking for someone to blame, he was a father desperate to know what had happened to his daughter. And he was the only one with answers.

"Is she going to be okay?" Hayden asked hesitantly. He would tell them what happened, but first he needed to know how Ulma was doing.

"She's alive, but she was literally drained of all her magic which also drained her body's energy. The doctors say she was lucky to have even made it off the Isle." Harry paused and Hayden could see he was fighting back tears. "She's on life support, they said it was they only way to conserve her remaining energy so that her body could focus on healing. The doctors say the rest is up to her, they have no idea whe. Or if she'll wake up."

Hayden felt his heart shatter. Despite his best efforts, Ulma was fighting for her life. He had failed to protect the one person he truly cared about. It wasn't fair that a magic drink could save his life whole she had to fight for hers.

"Hayden....Hayden!"

He jumped at the sound of Hadie's voice snapping him out of his thoughts.

"You need to breathe and relax, your hair is on fire."

Hayden closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. In his mind, he imagined Ulma's cold hands in his, reassuring him that he was safe and that he didn't need to be afraid.

Once he calmed down, Hayden walked them through the events that had led up to them being found unconscious in Hades lair.

Hadie was furious that his father had been willing to sacrifice two children, one of which was his own flesh and blood, for his own personal gain. Harry on the other hand, was realizing just how close he had come to losing his daughter. If Hayden hadn't put himself between her and Hades final blast....Harry couldn't bear to finish the thought.

Hayden had tears slipping down his cheeks as he waited for the two men to speak. His first instinct was to brace himself for physical or verbal retaliation. Instead, he felt a gentle hand being placed on his shoulder.

"Thank ye for saving ma daughter's life. Ulma is lucky to have a friend like ye." Harry said softly.

"You're welcome sir." Hayden replied quietly.

Harry chuckled lightly. "No need to be so formal lad, Mr.Harry works just fine."

Hayden nodded as Hadie took his turn to speak. "You did good little brother. There's alot of people who wouldn't have done what you did, be proud of that. Growing up on an island full of villians didn't stop you from becoming a hero."

"Then why do I feel so terrible?" Hayden asked. "Why does it feel like someone is stabbing me in the chest?"

Hadie smiled softly. "That, Hayden, is called love. When you love someone, you'll do anything to protect them and when they get hurt you hurt because that little voice in your head will say you should've done more even when you did all you can do."

"I love Ulma?" Hayden asked in confusion. The concept of love wasn't discussed nor shown on the Isle so to think that he was feeling a foreign emotion was strange and comforting.

"Yeah Hayden, you love her. You'll learn to understand it, I promise. It took me a while too." Hadie said, patting his shoulder.

"So can I see her?" Hayden asked. "Please?"

"Yeah, of course." Harry answered. "You know, for an Isle kid, you've got good manners."

"I like watching the goodness channel." Hayden admitted sheepishly. "Thought maybe it would come it handy some day."

Harry chuckled as Hadie pulled a wheel chair over to the side of the bed. "I don't think I've heard about that since Dizzy talked ma ear off about it one day."

Hayden nodded in response, unsure of who exactly Dizzy was. Thankfully, he was saved by Hadie who helped him into the wheel chair. Harry led the way to Ulma's room which was two doors down.

As they entered the room, Hayden noticed several people at Ulma's bedside. A woman and two boys who he assumed to be Ulma's mother and brothers, a blonde haired male and light brown haired female, and lastly a dark haired woman with an infant who he immediately recognized as Hadie's wife from the picture Ulma had shown him.

The room was silent and the small crowd parted, allowing Hadie to push his wheel chair next to Ulma's bedside. Hayden stared at Ulma as she lay motionless in her bed, connected to more tubes and wires than he could count.

Instinctively, Hayden took her hand and intertwined their fingers. He thought he had no more tears left to cry, only to be proven wrong when he felt the tears roll down his cheeks.

Gently, Hayden pressed a kiss to the top of her hand as he continued to rub the top of it with his thumb. No one had the heart to speak as Hayden let his walls crumble, his quiet sobs filling the room.

"I'm so sorry Ulma. I'm so sorry."
