Welcomes & Wish Lists
H E L L O!
Welcome to bootcamp! I'm excited to work with a mentor in getting a manuscript into shape for the 2022 Wattys! I am working with the Bootcamp Mentors, which you can learn more about here: BootcampMentors
If you don't know me - I'm Amelie. I'm a teacher during the day, so I love helping others improve their craft and realizing potential. Giving meaningful feedback in approachable, manageable ways is what I've been trained to do! I want to be your cheerleader and your partner as we go into the Watty season, but first, check out below to see if we are compatible.
🤍 NA/Adult Romance
🤍 Historical Fiction/Romance
🤍 Chicklit
🤍 A splash or Mystery/Thriller
Give me the romance! NA or Adult preferred. I am looking for characters 18+ (for MCs). I love a story with character complexity, and development—MC's I can root for and build an emotional connection to. I like stories with raw chemistry and tension, and I am comfortable with any level of spicy content—as long as it is consensual. Need help editing those spicy scenes or deciding when to add spice? I'm here for that.
🌶🌶🌶
As long as there is some heart and soul put into it (and maybe some laughs now and then), I can't wait to read it. If sports or music elements are included—that is an added bonus!
Historical fiction is a huge, wide-ranging genre, and while I would love to read it from any setting, I'm going to be most helpful to you if your manuscript takes place in the American or European 18th or 19th century. If you took a peek at my profile, you will find that Regency or Victorian Era setting is what I specialize in. Alternative history or history with a twist is a plus! Time-traveling? Also a total yes in my book.
Themes around mental health, neurodivergence, and the normalization of both are welcome additions to stories.
I am an LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ ally — stories with LGBTQ characters are more than welcome.
I would also love to see stories including culturally diverse characters.
But please note that I would not be able to act as a sensitivity reader in either regard.
First person or third person POV are both fine! I have experience with both.
I am not the right mentor for you if:
🤍 High Fantasy
🤍 Science Fiction
🤍 Horror
🤍 Fanfiction
These are areas that not only have I not written them, I also have not read a lot of these genres. Therefore, I just wouldn't be very helpful to you!
Other notes to consider:
I have never written in present tense. If your manuscript is in present tense - I am likely not a good fit for you.
It might be challenging for me to give the attention a manuscript deserves if it is more than 120,000 words.
I love tropes, but I will be looking for original takes on tropes we know and love!
I find that working through google docs is usually best for me when working on the manuscript. But I'm also available to chat through other apps as well. I will be communicative and supportive throughout the process, and in return, I am looking for someone who is open-minded and willing to take risks!
I don't write toxic guys well, and therefore I would not be very good at working on a manuscript that had toxic relationships. Having character flaws is different! Flaws are good! Toxicity in a relationship that isn't addressed? Not my vibe.
These are just guidelines! If you have any questions about what else I might be looking for, please let me know!
xoxo amelie
