They said that you didn't have long to live. You were starving when we found you. Your paws were bleeding. You couldn't walk. Daddy carried you. Took you to the veterinarian, who said that you couldn't be saved. I knew better. 

 I nursed you back to health. You returned the favor. You brought joy when I was crying. You were the one who took all of my hopelessness away, as I had brought hope to you. You were so much more than man's best friend. It couldn't last forever. They were right. 

I  will never forget that night. How Daddy carried you again. Your big brown eyes stared at me until the very end. I pounded on the windows, screaming for you to come back. Tears flooded my cheeks as I watched you get into the car, and be driven away. You would never come back. You had left me.

You destroyed my heart that night. I had thought that I had known pain and loss before they took you. But that night, I drowned in the sea of misery that you had been keeping away. You were gone.
