Why did you choose to cover this song?

To be honest, I covered it because it's one of my favorite songs. The lyrics stand out to me, and I'm one of those that sometimes doesn't pay much attention to lyrics at all. It's one that I hear after a bad day or even after a good day, and what it says means something to me. Being able to play it on the piano lets me put my feelings and emotions into it, hear the song in my head, and not subject people to my terrible singing (trust me, my voice is a lot like a walrus trying to sing)

What does music mean to you?

Eek. Hard question. My simplest answer is that music lets me show my personality and how I'm feeling without talking. It's the one thing, whether I'm playing something or just listening to the radio, that calms me down when I need to be. If I didn't have music, I wouldn't have some of my greatest friends, wouldn't be able to play songs with others, and wouldn't be able to put so much of my personality into something that doesn't need to be explained. It's speaking without talking.

What do you love about performing?

Everything! I play with my church in both youth group and the morning service, and I love being able to have the freedom to play some of my favorite songs with really awesome people. It's a lot of fun and I feel like it's where I need to be. This doesn't happen often, but when someone comes up after the service and thanks the band for a song, it tells me that what I'm doing means something to someone. I'm not just playing for me, but I'm playing for others.

Who/what are your major artistic influences?

Okay, so I could drone of forever about this. My family is a music family, so I'm going to be really cliche and say "my family." If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be able to play piano today. I also really love the 70's/80's rock genre and that leads me to figuring out songs by Ozzy Osborne, AC/DC, and Motley Crue. Then I've found bands like Switchfoot that have a really positive messages to their songs and, because I like the song, I try to learn it. Piano players that can play by ear always amaze me, as well as those who play traditionally. Influences come from everywhere!
