SarahPerlmutter is an amazing writer on Wattpad and has written books such as 'The Blast' which had won a Watty, and 'The Deathless Trilogy' which has 281k reads. It was amazing to interview her!

Why did you start writing on Wattpad?

I started writing on Wattpad after a student of mine suggested the site to me. At first, I was a little wary. I had just finished writing the first book in my Deathless trilogy, and I didn't want anyone plagiarizing. But after looking into Wattpad more, I realized that the site really does its best to keep your content yours. I decided to write a prequel to my series and post it to Wattpad as a test. That book was The Blast, which went onto win a Watty!

What's been your proudest moment on Wattpad?

My proudest moment on Wattpad was probably my first fan fiction and fan art contest for The Blast. At first, I thought that it was a long shot that I'd get any entries, but when I started seeing the stories posted, I was floored. I could not believe how many people had been inspired by my writing, and I loved reading all the entries. When I mailed out the published books to the winners, I truly felt accomplished as an author, but it wasn't anything I did. It was what my readers did.

How did it feel to win a Watty?

Winning a Watty left me completely stunned and honored. I had to read the list of winners a few times, and just sort of sat there smiling in disbelief until it sunk in. I already loved the Wattpad community, but receiving that recognition from HQ made me feel so connected.

Are you planning on writing anymore books?

I absolutely plan on writing more books. I plan to finish the book of short stories about my series, Stories of the Deathless, and I plan to continue All the Space Between Us. That's more of a serial story that will continue on and off between "seasons". I have a modern YA novel about 3/4 of the way written, and a few other ideas in the works outside of my series as well. I'm a teacher, so I'm hoping this summer will allow me to dedicate myself to writing (and playing with my puppies).

What's the best part about writing on Wattpad?

The best part of writing on Wattpad is absolutely the community. I've made so many friends and meaningful connections on this site, it's incredible.

And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?

My advice to a new writing on Wattpad is to join a writing group or make friends on the site. There is nothing more powerful on Wattpad than a tribe of like-minded writers to help you grow, critique your writing, support you, be your cheerleaders, and help you expand your thinking with their writing. Oh, and also to have fun!
