@Oziach
Oziach is a good friend and amazing supporter of mine, who has written books such as 'DC Roleplay' which had 11k reads, and 'Daily Posts' which has over 9k. It was great to interview him, and here is what he had to say!
Why did you start writing on Wattpad?
I've always been a adamant fanatic of storytelling in all forms, this idea ringing in my head that if you have a tale to tell, no matter what others tell you, put the work into letting the story be told. I've always had these fables and narratives bouncing around in my head, and one day I was introduced to Wattpad. It was like a cesspool of passionate writers whom the rest of the world simply deemed a toxic mess... just my kind of people!
Which character has been your favourite to create?
I'd have to say it would be Ragnvaldr (or if you can't pronounce that, "Ronnie"), which actually wasn't part of a novel, but rather an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) within one of my rant books. I always saw him as a really interesting villain, essentially serving as a walking concept of social taboo and intolerance towards others, and writing his actions and motivations was probably the most fun I'd had writing in quite a while.
What's been your proudest moment on Wattpad?
There's been plenty of ups and downs, but I think my biggest highlight was reaching the 1 Year Anniversary of my Daily Posts series. Time had felt like it'd flown by so fast, yet as I looked back there was so much I couldn't even comprehend that I'd written! It was an extraordinary moment of retrospection.
Where do you see your account in six months?
Well, there are two possibilities here. Either I'll be sitting here doing the same pattern of things, writing and simply enjoying my time on here... OR I'll have vanished due to my sarcasm peeving off the wrong person and having them falsely report my account into oblivion! Yeah, I never said Wattpad was perfect, but I still love and tolerate it.
What's the hardest part about writing on Wattpad?
While many say it's the haters or the deadlines, it's actually something a bit more meta in my case, that being Wattpad itself. I've been using this website/app for years now, and when you've been on it this long you begin to notice every time it spaztically glitches out and hinders writing, whether it's causing my uploads to show up late to crashing the app whenever I copy and paste a block of text... it can be too much sometimes.
There's a reason the app constantly has these tiny updates for bug fixes. Because the program is infested with them!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
People underestimate the power of "Shower Thoughts". When you're involved in a process of actions that require little thought, your mind begins to wander and formulate ideas. Some of my most entertaining concepts have come from me just walking home from school or, as the phrase suggests, taking a shower! Other than that, I usually love looking for phrases and concepts, trying to interpret them in a unique was to see if I can make something out of it that I haven't seen done before.
And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?
It's obvious that a common answer is to "dedicate yourself" or to "not let anyone stop you", but I'll try not to keep this broken record player stuck in place and give you all a new piece of advice. Try to make yourself stand out. I know it may seem impossible in a flood of creators to let yourself hold a unique identity, but finding that essence of what makes you distinct is so important. Find something that gives you a personal flow, whether it's how you write dialogue or the way your scenes are structured, from the types of books you write. Finding that flow is amazing, since once you've found your identity, adapting it becomes much easier, keeping people reeled in to see what you'll present them with in the coming future!
