The Schuyler Sisters
Ryan smiled, looking out from the pub to the center of the city, seeing many carriages pass by. "There's nothing rich folks love more than going downtown just to gawk at all the commoners," he said to himself, chuckling.
A tall man entered a carriage, which rode away immediately after. Philip Schuyler, father of Kathlyn, Kyra, and Dia Schuyler, who just so happened to be turning the corner of a shop a few blocks away.
Rairai huffed, trotting to keep up with Kathlyn and Kyra. "Hey, Daddy said to be home by sundown!" "He doesn't need to know," Kathlyn said, smirking. "And he said not to go downtown," Rairai continued. "Like I said, you're free to go," Kyra said, giggling.
"But look around, the revolution's happening! And in New York!" Kathlyn exclaimed, excited.
"It's bad enough Daddy wants to go to war," Rairai sighed. "People shouting in the square," Kyra mumbled, looking towards a parapet where a young woman holding a script stood. "It's bad enough there'll be violence on our shore!" Rairai cried. "There's new ideas in the air, though," Kathlyn perked up. "Kathlyn, remind me what we're looking for?" Kyra asked. Two men had overheard them and whispered simultaneously, "She's looking for me!" Kathlyn rolled her eyes. "Kyra, I'm looking for a mind at work," she replied, ignoring the two men.
Ryan had now made his way over to the three girls, sighing happily. "There's nothing like summer in the city: someone in a rush next to someone looking pretty." He noticed Kathlyn and smirked, walking up to her. "Excuse me, miss, I know it's not funny, but the smell of your perfume tells me your father's got money. Why are you slumming in the city in your fancy heels? Looking for an urchin who meets your expectations?" he teased, to which Kathlyn sighed. "Burr, you disgust me-" "Ah, so you've discussed me," he interrupted. "I'm a trust fund, dear, you can trust me."
Kathlyn raised an eyebrow and put on a smug smile. "I've been reading Common Sense by Thomas Paine. So men say that I'm intense or crazy? You want a revolution, I want a revelation! So listen to my declaration!" "'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal," the three girls recited. "And when I met Kim Jefferson, I'm gonna compel her to include women in the sequel!"
"Look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now! History is happening in Manhattan and we just happen to be in the greatest city in the world!" Kyra exclaimed, smiling.
Kathlyn ran over to a nearby parapet and stood up. "Cuz I've been reading Common Sense by Thomas Paine! So men say that I'm intense or I'm insane? You want a revolution, I want a revelation! So listen to my declaration!" Kyra and Rairai stood up on the parapet next to her, and together the three of them recited: "'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.' Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now! History is happening in Manhattan and we just happen to be in the greatest city in the world!"
"In the greatest city in the world!" the crowd repeated cheerfully.
