Kokonoe: The life of the red-coated warrior known as Ragna the Bloodedge was anything but easy. Born in an experimental facility, he and his siblings were used as lab rats. Until one day, the legendary warrior Jubei whisked them away.

Junko: Hey Kokonoe, isn't that your father?

Kokonoe: We're not going through this again... anyway, Ragna and his siblings were tucked away in the woods, where they would eventually be raised by a kind nun known as Celica.

Junko: Hey, isn't that your aunt? Doesn't that make you and Ragna-

Kokonoe: Finish that sentence and you won't make it to the season finale.

Junko: Whoops, guess I'll stop talking now.

Kokonoe: Anyway, things were starting to look up for the three siblings, until Ragna's little brother Jin started growing jealous of their little sister, Saya. This was thanks to a mysterious sword and a man known as Yuuki Terumi, who went out of his way to drive Jin into madness.

Junko: So Jin did what any child under the influence of a madman would do. Burn your home, cut your brothers arm off, and leave your loved ones to die!

Kokonoe: I'm sure you know all about that...

Junko: Kokonoe, please. The children I manipulated did way more than cut someone's arm off.

Kokonoe: Anyway, being left to burn alive, Ragna was eventually saved by a girl named Rachel Alucard.

Junko: A vampire girl who didn't make it into Death Battle this season.

Kokonoe: Rachel saved his life by biting his neck, giving him vampire blood. Once Ragna woke up in the ruins of the church, he found he had a new arm in replace of his old one. This mysterious artifact was the Azure Grimoire.

Kokonoe: Despite what it's name may imply, it's not a book, but a highly condensed mass of seithr with similar properties to that of the Black Beast.

Junko: We'll talk about the Black Beast later, but seithr is a particular substance which constructs the entire world. Ragna's Azure Grimoire gives him access to the Boundary, a place where all timelines intersect. Thus granting Ragna an infinite supply of seithr.

Kokonoe: And Ragna has managed to pull through a lot with this. But first we need to go over his weapon of choice, the Aramasa.

Junko: Ragna's trademark weapon! In base form it's a 5 foot sword and in its awakened form it can turn into a scythe with a crimson seithr blade!

Kokonoe: Ragna also has his Drive, Soul Eater.

Junko: Wait, so he can eat people's souls to become a Grimm Reaper?

Kokonoe: No... well, sorta. This really allows him to chip away at the souls of his foes, converting them into seithr to replenish his vitality. It also allows him to devour dreams.

Junko: How... does that work...?

Kokonoe: No idea. But Ragna does have some impressive moves. Like Hells Fang.

Kokonoe: Where he charges forth with a seithr-infused punch, then follows through with a dragon-headed seithr wave.

Junko: Or Dead Spike.

Junko: Where he unleashes a wave of seithr by swinging his sword upwards.

Kokonoe: There's also Nightmare Edge.

Kokonoe: A vertical diving sword swing that knocks foe into the ground.

Junko: His other powerful abilities include his Overdrive, Distortion Drives, and Exceed Accel.

Junko: His overdrive is called Blood Kain IDEA. It basically increases how much of the soul Ragna takes. About... 80%.

Kokonoe: Ragna has two Distortion Drives. The first being Carnage Scissors, where he slashes at his foe with the Aramasa, then blasts them away with a second swing that produces a violent blast of seithr.

Junko: The other one is Devoured by Darkness, where he picks up a foe with a giant seithr claw and hefts them into the air, before brutally channeling seithr into them.

Kokonoe: His Exeed Accel is called Seed of Tartarus, where he strikes his foe with an overhead swing of the Aramasa, then blasts them away with a sword swing that produces claw-shaped wave of seithr.

Junko: And if he wants to get serious, he has his Unlimited Mode!

Junko: In this mode, Ragna gains an aura of seithr, manifested as hazy purple-black fire, and Aramasa begins to flash scarlet periodically. This is the true power of the Azure Grimoire, and is theorized to be the full power of the Black Beast being channeled by Ragna.

Kokonoe: The Black Beast is an anomaly that exists outside of reason and logic. It is a legendary, hydra-esque monster that nearly destroyed all life. While Ragna himself isn't technically the Black Beast, a part of it is bounded to the Azure Grimoire.

Junko: And when Ragna is in this mode, he can use its power! His durability is increased 10 fold and he gets a 25% boost in power! It also lets all his attacks be affected by Soul Eater!

Kokonoe: He can also turn into the Black Beast, but doing so is highly situational.

Junko: Anyway, as far as attacks go, his greatest is his Astral Finish, Black Onslaught!

Junko: Ragna strikes his opponent with the Aramasa. If it hits, Ragna unseals the weapon and strikes at the foe with a combo of swift slashes before concluding his combo with a downwards stab, channeling seithr into the foe. He then reverts the Aramasa back into its sword form and finishes the foe off with a stab to the heart.

Kokonoe: Ragna is already physically strong.

Kokonoe: He's taken on some of Blazblue's heavy hitters like Hakumen, Noel, and Azrael.

Junko: He's even fought Kokonoe's mom, who can summon meteors!

Kokonoe: He's fast enough to keep up with Iron Tager, who can fly into the exosphere and back in seconds, calculating him at around Mach 9,110.

Junko: He's even tanked attacks from the giant Take-Mikazuchi, who can destroy an entire country!

Kokonoe: Still, even he has weaknesses.

Kokonoe: He has very few ranged attacks and a very short fuse.

Junko: Also, he seems to always be at the top of the world's shit list. I mean, even in game he has one of the lowest health stats.

Kokonoe: Well... at least he's not working with a blonde Sociopath...

Junko: Yeah! Wait huh?

Ragna: …Forget it. No one can move forward… No one will change. Nothing is “saved”. …I’m not letting anyone get their way. I will devour every single wish of all the chosen… even if that’s coming from the Gods themselves! Remember this, Observer… I am the enemy to the entire world… The Grim Reaper, Ragna the Bloodedge.
