Junko: Let's take a bit to reflect.  You decide you want to buy something cute today, and so you buy a free Visual Novel called Doki Doki Literature Club. What could go wrong? ... Everything. Everything went wrong! All thanks to a teenage girl named Monika!

Kokonoe: Originally, Monika was a regular girl who was very popular in her no-named high school. She used to be a member of the debate club, but after wanting to try something new, she decided to form the Literature Club.

Junko: With five members, including herself! There's Sayori, who really likes to hang out. Natsuki, who has a tendency to snap. And Yuri who's just a cut above the rest! Of course, we can't forget our main MC!

Kokonoe: Weird things were happening with this Club. It was all normal and peaceful at first... until one day, Monika realized something shocking.

Junko: She was in... a video game! Dun dun duuun!

Kokonoe: The realization was actually quite traumatic for Monika. Everything she's ever known was fake and revolved around one MC. To make matters worse, it was a world she had no place in.

Junko: So basically, in the game you play as the MC, with each girl having their own paths to choose from. Every girl... except Monika.

Kokonoe: This, added to the fact that she was programmed to fall for the MC, drove Monika mad. She slowly started to grow resentful towards the world around her. If the game doesn't give her the route she wants, she'll just make her own... making sure there is nobody else... but Monika.

Monika: Hey! There's more to the story than just that you know?

Kokonoe: Hm?

Monika: Right... I had a feeling you might have a hard time since my circumstances are a bit different than previous combatants, so I decided to help. As it turns out, this world wasn't just some video game, but a Virtual Machine quite literally named VM1. And me having knowledge of it was no accident. My creators gave me this knowledge just to see how I would react. I mean, it's in my name. Monitor Kernel Access.

Junko: Oooh... MONItor Kernal Access... now that's clever.

Kokonoe: How so?

Junko: This basically reveals just how much control Monika has over the virtual world. It's very similar to my own Alter Ego. With Kernal Access, she can pretty much do whatever she wants with only a few limitations. And the Monitor part basically means she can see everything that takes place within the virtual world. Her most impressive feat is creating and then destroying 3 or 4 of the 5 Universes within her virtual world, with the main universe being an exact copy of our own.

Kokonoe:  She can also affect other virtual platforms like the slightly larger VM2 and even has her own Twitter Account.

Junko: Um... it's called X now.

Monika: Yeah, I'm not calling it that.

Kokonoe: Funny since she can actually keep using her Kernal Access even after being deleted from existence... and she can somehow still post on Twitter...

Junko: She may be kind, but she's pretty clever and manipulative. She used to be kind to her friends and everyone around her, but that changed and now she's a cold-blooded psycho yandere who would heartlessly kill her friends to get what she wants!

Monika: Hey! ... I'm not a psycho... 

Junko: Ha! Sure, keep telling yourself that!

Monika: ... ... ...

Kokonoe: Now, due to Monika's unique circumstances, we're first going to look at how her powers affect the world around her.

Kokonoe: As stated earlier, Monika has control over the world she's in on a Kernal level. This allows her to freely alter the game's data. She can teleport herself and others wherever she wants, turn intangible and semi-transparent, change the script of the game, and even control time. She can rewind time or speed it up. She can even erase your save files, basically erasing entire timelines, and prevent you from saving the game.

Junko: She's even got the additional ability to manipulate fire... because why not?

Monika snapped her fingers.

Junko: D̶e̵s̵p̸a̷i̷r̶ ̴i̶s̴ ̵o̷v̴e̵r̶r̴a̷t̴e̷d̴ ̷a̷n̶d̵ ̸I̴ ̶a̷m̷ ̷w̴o̶r̵s̴t̵ ̷g̶i̵r̸l̷.̸... ... ... shit.

Kokonoe: Monika's control of reality can turn on and off the game's music or even tilt a classroom without anyone noticing, and even make the player's vision go red.

Kokonoe: Though considering how bloody it looks and sounds, I do wonder if this is the MC simply bleeding from his eyes considering it's something Monika is capable of doing. She did do the same to Yuri after all.

Junko: Actually, Monika just changed the perspective of the Player. This is of Sayori trying to free herself from getting hanged and those noises are Sayori trying to free herself while also trying to scream for help. And that explains why she has blood on her fingers on her death screen.

Monika: That's...

Junko: Pretty fucked up, isn't it? Ahaha!

Monika: ... ... ...

Kokonoe: And with that, we should move on to how she can use it on other people.

Junko: To summarize, whatever Monika can do to herself, she can do to other people as well. Not only can she teleport but she can teleport others wherever she wants and make them all glitchy. In addition, she can heighten one's negative emotional state. Worsening Sayori's depression to the point of Sayori hanging herself and making Yuri so obsessed with the MC that Yuri stabbed herself to death! 

Kokonoe: She can also erase memories, having caused Natsuki to lose all of her memories of the... heated argument she had with Yuri the day before.

Junko: She also really likes to make others look horrifically terrifying. Making her face look freakishly broken, taking away Natsuki's eyes and mouth, and even making Yuri's eyes realistic. But we all know her main ability is the ability to erase others from existence.

Kokonoe: Monika isn't just erasing them from existence. She's completely deleting their files, to the point where the game no longer recognizes them.

Junko: How the hell does that work?

Monika: Let's test it out!

Kokonoe: As you can see, F̴̩̍͌s̶̞͘l̷̫̟̀̎L̸͔͝f̴̰͕̍ͅh̸̨̓ĵ̷̘̊́l̷̝̟̱͋͝r̴̙̍͘s̷̈́͑ͅN̸͖̝͇̑s̵̨̹̥̑̃̕k̶͙̼̽ is no longer in existence. As a result, I can't even say her name since the system no longer recognizes her. Even if you wanted to bring her back, it would be almost impossible to do so.

Monika: But I am perfectly capable of bringing her back thanks to having backup files.

Junko had reappeared almost as soon as Monika snapped her fingers.

Junko: Woah... that was weird... let's never do that again.

Kokonoe: Theoretically, Monika could summon the other girls as well using backup files. She, herself, has even survived the deletion of her own data.

Junko: Right, so after having two of her friends kill themselves and then deleting all of them, even Natsuki, out of existence, she brought the MC to a new universe in her creation.  One where the script was deleted so Monika no longer needed to worry about plot interference. 

Kokonoe: But she didn't make a backup file for herself since she never thought the MC would try to delete her for her actions.

Junko: Wait really? Did she really think the Player would love him after she got everyone else killed? Hah! 

Monika: ... ... ...

Kokonoe: Regardless, Monika was deleted and in pain, with no backup data to restore her body. And yet, she still survived despite no longer existing in the game. It was thanks to this that she managed to realize her mistake, and gave the Player one last gift... a new and complete game without her in it.

Junko: You'd think nothing would go wrong with that... but Sayori ended up gaining the same powers as Monika and nearly did everything Monika had already done. But then Monika came back, nullifying Sayori's powers and realizing there was no happy ending to this game. 

Kokonoe: There was only one solution... delete all of Doki Doki Literature Club. 

Junko: And that's exactly what she did! ... That did kill her, right?

Kokone: Not entirely. Even after the game got deleted, she did leave a note out for the Player to read. On top of that, there were hints of her tampering with VM2, which seems to be a larger world than VM1. She's even still active on "̵̠̦̪͈̫̓X̷̨̠̣͌͗̃"̷̭̺͔́͛̇͜͝     Twitter.

Junko: So there's still the chance that Monika is alive. Regardless, it's not like she's completely unstoppable.

Junko: While Monika has control over the virtual world, there are some limitations to her control. She still needs to obey the rules of the game, which she often times breaks, causing her to break the game as well. 

Kokonoe: She also can't escape the virtual world and come into the real world. So you don't need to worry about her crawling out of your TV or anything. Besides, without a backup file of herself, she will be unable to restore her body on the off chance that she was erased from existence or anything like that.

Junko: Though her biggest weakness is that she's got no actual fighting experience. I mean, she does have a ton of hax and she could potentially make herself as strong and as fast as she wants, but she still knows next to nothing about actual combat and has no combat feats to support her.

Kokonoe: Right. It's almost easy to forget that she was programmed to be an ordinary teenager before she became self-aware. But her misery and loneliness made her grow more obsessed with the Player. And thus she killed her friends and broke the game to make sure that nobody else could have him. And realizing her mistakes she deleted everything. 

Junko: And hey, maybe in a different life, she'll be happy with the club she needs the most.

Monika: The club that I need the most? I don't get it... I just wanted to start a club with more passion. Something that I could use to help lead people to happiness. Literature is the key to that. Because it's the window to the real person inside of us. Underneath the person who's forced to always smile and blend in. The person who's forced to be... ...Perfect.
