Monika: Born in the village of Hinamizawa, Reina Ryuugu moved away to another city named Ibaraki with her parents for the sake of advancing her mother's career at a fashion design firm.

Junko: ... Yeah that seems way too happy for an anime that pretends to be a peaceful slice of life.

Monika: Well everything was alright until Reina's mom left her dad for a man who she was having an affair with. Because of this, Reina would change her name to Rena out of spite and destroy anything her mother left behind, altering her mental state.

Junko: Hmm... yeah, sorry, this still sounds way too PG.

Monika: Well later on, despite the downward spiral of her mental state, she still managed to make three male friends. She had a nice time with these boys... until they took advantage of her and tried to rape her...

Junko: Yep! There it is!

Monika: This would cause her to have a psychotic breakdown, beating her former friends to near death and breaking every window in her school with a baseball bat. She was um... understandably expelled afterward, forced to move with her father back to Hinamizawa, where she became friends with several members of the local school's after-day club. She proceeded to spend most of her free time hanging out with them but continued to be paranoid about her violent behavior back in Ibaraki, which she started to attribute to "Oyashiro's curse"...a curse said to be given out by the local deity Oyashiro's by anybody who left the village.

Junko: Oh please! She's way too adorable to be that-

Junko: -HOLY SWEET MOTHER OF JESUS!

Monika: Right, there's no real denying that Rena is a natural killing machine. She broke Rina's arm and beat her to death with a rusty metal pipe,  lifted people much heavier than herself, knocked her friends out with her punches, and even destroyed a pillar simply by landing on it.

Junko: She can keep going even after being shot in the shoulder. She's taken a beating from Rina, which included punches to the face and light choking hehe. She's also endured multiple strikes from a metal baseball bat, which broke her arm and split her forehead open. Despite these injuries, she took another blow to the head and was still moving! 

Monika: She's fast enough to block and dodge bullets, dodge water from a water gun, and outrun two villagers while carrying Mion on her back.

Junko: That's right! And on top of that, she's got the right brains worthy of a yandere!

Monika: Wait what? No, Rena is not a Yandere.

Junko: Ha! Please, she's a total yandere! Just like you and that Yuri chick!

Monika: Um no, Rena is a Yangire, or someone normal who suddenly becomes violent due to past trauma. While a yandere acts violently because of love, a yangire acts violently because of some triggering event that brings up their past. 

Junko: Whatever, she's totally a yandere.

Monika: Ugh... well regardless she's a fairly clever girl and very perceptive as well.

Junko: She's a human lie detector who can plan the most complex of plans in a very short amount of time! She's got the highest kill count of everyone in the main cast and has survived more arcs than the main cast as well.

Monika: Rena will do whatever it takes to kill her target, even if it means using the environment around her. She's incredibly skilled in martial arts as well. Even with no real training, she made Kaiichi and Mion both assume her to be an expert martial artist with Mion already having Martial arts experience.

Junko: This applies even when she suffers from Hinamizawa Syndrome.

Junko: A psychiatric disease found in citizens of Hinamizawa. It's caused by a parasitic ant that resides in the brain, triggering progressively extreme anxiety and paranoia, which can force someone to commit acts of murder. There are 5 stages of this disease. At level 3, the mental condition of the person will start to deteriorate, making them mentally and emotionally unstable. At level 4, the person begins to suffer from paranoia and hallucinations. At level 5, victims begin to suffer from symptoms similar to Formication. It also increases the chances of committing suicide by clawing out their throats.

Monika: Even while suffering from Level 5 Hinamizawa Syndrome, Rena realized a police officer was manipulating Kaiichi. And, in a different timeline, she managed to still have enough mental stability to trick Kaiichi with a fake bomb and beat him in combat on the school roof.

Junko: Yeah, she really likes to blow shit up. But before we get to that, let's talk about her weapons cause she's got a shit ton of them! Starting with her Japanese Nata!

Monika: Her main weapon of combat. She has a bigger version that she calls her Ironclad Clever. With this, Rena can easily chop through the human skull, trade blows with Keiichi, and even beat Mion to near death. She can also toss it with enough force to knock someone over.

Junko: She has other things too, like her baseball bat!

Monika: It's just a normal bat.

Junko: But it's perfect for beating your three male friends to near death before breaking every window in your school! She also has a Box Cutter!

Junko: Perfect for stabbing yourself, only to learn you have maggots crawling out of your skin!

Monika: I'm sorry what?

Junko: Along with that is her Metal Pipe!

Junko: Perfect for getting rid of those annoying stepmothers who are actually dating a criminal and only dating your dad to get money off him.

Monika: That sounds... very specific...

Junko: And like any Yandere, she has an motherfucking axe!

Monika: Still not a Yandere.

Junko: Oh c'mon! She has a big ass axe!

Monika: Not every yandere has an axe!

Junko: But it's perfect for murdering your best friend's abusive uncle. And it goes well with her saw.

Junko: A tool she uses to chop her victims to bits and bury them away with a shovel! Just like a-

Monika: She's not a yandere!

Junko: Still good with her bombs!

Junko: Seriously, this chick's a fucking terrorist with multiple ways of blowing shit up! Using Gasoline and a Zippo lighter, she can blow up a whole classroom! She also has grenades, a timed bomb strong enough to blow up a school, and a Colonel Sanders bomb!

Monika: I'm sorry, what?

Junko: Yeah, a bomb shaped like Colonel Sanders for some reason.

Monika: But um... why?

Junko: If you think that's ridiculous, we haven't even touched her Cuuute Mode 

Monika: Right. Even the most serious of people have to have a silly side, and this is a state Rena gets in whenever she sees something cute. 

Junko: In this state, she can break out of rope bondage and send people flying with a single punch! She was hit by a log that sent her dozens of meters away and even withstood explosions from multiple rockets! She's also capable of moving faster than the eye can see, striking four people and catching multiple dishes, as well as Shion herself, faster than she could react! She's been described as moving so fast that she can break the sound barrier!

Monika: This state is capable of being used in combat because... yeah sure, why not? It makes her an expert sharpshooter for some reason and can even let her fly... why?

Junko: Meh, she can also grow giant so I'm not too surprised. And it's not like she doesn't have her weaknesses.

Junko: Rena is kinda mentally and emotionally unstable. 

Monika: Takes one to know one I guess.

Junko: Hm? What does that mean?

Monika: Oh nothing. But yeah, Rena is still human, so more destructive weapons can kill her despite her durability if she is not careful.

Junko: Still, you may wanna try not to piss her off. Because behind her cute and cheerful smile, lies a yandere waiting to slaughter.

Monika: Again... not a yandere. But definitely a threat.
