"Socks!" the little boy called out. Max was sitting on the wooden boardwalk steps putting on his flip flops. Brushing damp sand from between his crusty toes, the child noticed Sock's frantic gagging near the waves. As the dog toppled into the current, Max ran to help. Approaching the noxious water, Max grabbed his own throat for air. He never stood a chance, however, against the toxic fumes invading his lungs. As he lost consciousness, the boy realized the foolishness of the minister's decision earlier in the year; the reality of dumping radioactive water into the ocean now fully realized.
