Recommendation: Magic's Minister

Basic statistics: Fantasy; ongoing; 35 chapters.

Where to begin?

This is the hardest book so far to not simply gush and fangirl over.

The world-building is excellent. The plot is fabulous. The grammar is practically impeccable. The flow is easy and eminently readable.

But the true enchantment of this book, what grips you and never lets go, what makes you freak out at the end of every update, begging for more, are the characters.

You cannot read this book without bonding to them. They are what makes the story tick. They are so real, so developed, you could put them in any place and still make a story with them. Even as I write they are dancing in my mind's eye: Sedgewick, temperamental, irritable, introverted, stubborn -- adorable... Feyla, determined, sweet, caring -- spontaneously stupid... Eleyna, aloof, quiet, terrible... and I could go on. More characters. More adjectives. But it wouldn't get us any further. You have to read it to really know.

Now, as to the other aspects...

Plot.

What happens when a minister of magic begins to lose that magic?
In other words, magic plus friends, position, and everything he's ever worked for?
And how does that lovely, devoted assistant fit into it all?

Now, romance and I -- we don't get along well together all the time. When a book can make me scream at the characters to kiss, you are looking at one. Fantastic. Book.

Plot twists. Oh boy, Ellowyne is Queen of plot twists. When you think you have it solved, think again! There's more behind everything than meets the eye. Hmm, and I thought we were close to the end at twenty-one chapters...

Grammar -- grammar? What "grammar" are you talking about? The only issue I come across is typos. Description and pacing? She makes them look easy.

Now, if you haven't figured it out, Magic's Minister is one in a million, and anybody who reads fantasy should have it on the bucket list. You don't just go through life and not read that book.

Oh, and did anybody catch the subtle LotR movie reference above...?
