AUTHOR INTERVIEW:

Who are your favorite authors?  Nancy Pickard, Marisa de los Santos, and Anne Rice. There's also a slew of indie authors I can get enough of: Conner Kressley, Rainy Kaye, and Riley J Ford to name just a SMALL few.

You're a USA Today Best Selling Author. Tell us about that experience. Honestly, it sounds fancier than it is. It just means that for ONE week, one of my projects sold an insane amount of copies. It made for a nice payday, but I'm still in the starving artist category (sometimes quite literally). But I write because I love it and because I love to make my readers happy. A title is just a title.

And as if that wasn't enough, one of your series' have been optioned for film. Can you tell us about that too?    A couple years ago, my agent was contacted by Brian Witten, who helped produce such movies as The Wedding Singer, Friday the 13th, Final Destination, and more recently, The Chernobyl Diaries and The Cell. It was a huge compliment that he believed in my work enough to want to make it a film. These things take time, and there are no promises, so I try to enjoy it for what it is. One of the best parts in all of it has actually been the people I've met. I flew out to LA with my husband to meet Brian, and we attended an In This Moment concert together. Brian's an awesome guy and has become a quick friend. I couldn't think of anyone better to trust with this project.

What's your secret and/or advice for aspiring authors? I always answer this question the same way: Persevere! Success takes TIME and EFFORT. Always work to improve. Always be open to constructive criticism, and when none comes, be your own worst critic. We can always afford to grow more as authors. You just have to keep trying. Even after you have "made it" you need to persevere some more :)

What was the inspiration for the story you wrote for the Block Party? Story-wise, it just "came to me" but character-wise, I wanted to illuminate the kind of person you don't need everyday. The kind of person who would be hard to understand, unless you could get in their head. I can't say it works for everyone, as Sophia's personality type accounts for only 2% of the population, so it makes her a little harder to relate to. But I have no regrets. Having a son with autism, it was important to me to show people that even when we can't understand someone, it doesn't mean there's no sense to their choices. They have their own reasons :) In that sense, my oldest son is the one who inspired my character, and since my character created this story, I guess you could say he inspired that, too.

What are your writing habits, or routine? (day vs. late night? on your phone? lots of caffeine?)  Oh, I only get to write maybe once or twice a year, in 4-6 week blocks. I usually write at night, after the kids are in bed.

How did you discover Wattpad? Google :)

When I'm not writing I'm: Editing. Marketing. Spending time with my family.

What's you favorite thing about Wattpad?  I love the ability to share my work publicly and for free with a wide range of people.

What can we expect from you next?   I have a few things I'm working on at the moment. One is a co-written project with Conner Kressley that I'm super excited about--a very steamy Paranormal Romance. For my solo projects, I have book three in The Forever Girl series to focus on as well as Paranormal Steampunk Trilogy in the works. I recently completed a young adult paranormal romance, "Something Like Voodoo" that is in the editorial stage currently.
