If you are like me and like to keep up-to-date with everything related to Young Adult fiction, you may have noticed something a bit different this fall. You are probably well acquainted with other Young Adult movie series's who also had releases around this time of year - for example, the Hunger Games series and the Harry Potter series before they both ended. It has become a popular trend in Young Adult book adaptations to have one book produced as a movie per year and end it with the last book being hyped up more than any other, and sometimes even being split into two parts. But this year, there was one series that didn't follow through with the common promise of one movie a year.

The Maze Runner series, which had its debut movie released in September of 2014, and then had the second, named The Scorch Trials released a year later, has yet to release its third installment, known as The Death Cure. The series itself is based on the trilogy of books written by James Dashner. It focuses on Thomas, a teenage boy, who is suddenly thrust into a Glade where he and everyone else stuck there must find a way out. It doesn't help that at the start of the series, Thomas has lost all of us his memories and has no clue what is going on. As the series progresses, the plot becomes more intense and reveals shocking twists that you'd have to read to believe. As one of the best works of Young Adult fiction, it was turned into a movie series with Wes Ball as the director.

But surprisingly, the third movie installment in this adaptation from Dashner's series will not be coming out until January 12, 2018. This seems like a long time away, and for someone like me who enjoys the movies a lot, (even if they may deviate from the books), I would wish it could come sooner. But there is a really understandable reason why they had to make the date of release so much later than originally intended, though.

If you hadn't seen it in the news back in March, there had been an accident on the set of The Death Cure with Dylan O'Brien himself. While shooting a scene, he fell off the back of a set and was run over by a car. He had to be immediately sent to the hospital with multiple injuries. Therefore, because of his injuries, they first set back the release date to February 2017, and most recently, since he still needed more recovery time, the date has once more been pushed back to early 2018.

Although there may be a lot of people who are not as excited for the movies, because of how different they can be from the books as with most adaptations, the movies are still worth watching. And even more, if you haven't even read the books, then that is something else you should definitely do. There's a lot of time to read and re-read the Maze Runner series before its final movie installment comes out. In my opinion, it is extremely well-written with an amazing plot, but most of all, it's inspiring. The books and the movies both make you feel a variety of different emotions that enhance the entire experience. This series is one of the best to have graced this Earth, and for anyone who has yet to check it out, please do.

Now, as we wait for 2018, we can continue enjoying the series through its books and current movies!
