Book Review: Smooth Sailing

Smooth Sailing by papersplanes (Plus, a surprise at the end!)

Hello readers, Oohh I've got a treat for you. This month we are looking at 'Smooth Sailing' by papersplanes. Whenever I choose a book to review, I always choose from those I've previously read so that the book has that extra touch to it. Basically, it deals with something that not a lot of other books on Wattpad deal with.

Smooth Sailing is about Lila, an average girl in high school who is working a part time job in a bakery. This is where she meets Matthew, the handsome blind heartthrob. Before Matthew, I don't think Lila lived life to the fullest, and if you add a bit of tequila what could go wrong?

Personally, I loved Matthew as this book taught me that he's just a regular guy who is just like you and I, but he just can't see - and there's always a taboo with disability. However in this book, papersplanes just goes in there with a great attitude, representing him like another teen who faces relationship issues. It really makes you think. I don't know about you guys but I want a Matthew. If only he were real.

The book itself is beautifully written, and anyone who has ever read my reviews knows that I hate a soggy bottom (meaning, when a book starts off promising, drops in the middle, and then the writer ends up trying to save the book by shipping the two most popular characters together giving them an unrealistic wedding and then giving them fraternal twins yada yada...). I assure you, there are no soggy bottoms here!!!

Oh did you think we were done?

Haha no chance. Oh I treat you too much. May I present to you a new friend of mine ms. papersplanes herself, who graciously gave time out of her precious and hectic schedule to type an interview with me.....

1) Who on Wattpad do you take as your inspiration?

papersplanes: There are a lot of people who inspire me on here, especially to write well written chapters, but the person who made me really want to stick with writing is .

2) What is the first book that made you cry on Wattpad?

papersplanes: Definitely The Undoing of Ryder Burke.

3) What did you edit out of this book?

papersplanes: Silly mistakes I wrote in Matthew's POV.

4) How long on average does it take you to write a book?

papersplanes: When I wrote fanfiction, chapters were written so much faster, but with school being my main priority now, the average time to fully complete a book would be a year.

5) Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

papersplanes: I do have hidden messages that are revealed in chapters that have plot twists, and yeah, only a few people notice.

6) On wattpad what's your favorite under-appreciated novel?

papersplanes: Blind Fools. It's honestly so amazing, I've read it so many times.

7) How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

papersplanes: Blind Fools was my inspiration. I noticed that there was a lack of books that had a main blind character, and I really wanted to break out my fanfiction phase and write something I was excited with.

8) What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

papersplanes: Definitely writing in Matthew's POV. It was so different writing from a blind person's POV but I did make silly mistakes because it was so new to me. It was honestly so fun to describe things with other senses than sight.

9) Best way to de-stress after a hard chapter?

papersplanes: Listen to my favourite music.

10) What's the last book you read on Wattpad?

papersplanes: I recently reread Cherry Knots.

11) If your life was a book what would be the title?

papersplanes: The Amazing Life of Jamilah. Lmao.

12) Extremely important question: Where can the readers at home get a guy like Matthew?

papersplanes: EBAE but due to high demand, he may not be available :).

16) Lastly, any advice for struggling authors?

papersplanes: Keep writing. Because even if you think your book isn't that good, it could be amazing to somebody else.

That is a wrap, I had so much fun doing this whole review and interview, now what are you waiting for... Go and read the book. While you're there go follow paper planes. See you next month with another review.
